Becos they were not able to make any money at all from the website so they just found an excuse not to keep it up and running any longer.

Quite clever really in some people's views..

    I just saw this.

Too bad....an occasionally very helpful site.

Maybe he'll donate the site to a less divisive and more detached

person could kind of start over with a different kind of approach.

It'd be a shame not to have a site where one

can talk and read about schools in Thailand by name.

    hehe

I knew a guy who used to read it every day. Claimed to have a doctorate in mosquito biology. One day a guy who works with him told me that "he saved a student's life through CPR." hehe A mosquito biologist resuscitating a human being. "Dr." meets "Dr. Schizo."

Funny thing was, once I heard the "Dr." call his son "stupid." Real charming thing to do for someone with a pliable young mind.

Me, I had some friendly with Whitey on unrelated topics. I'm not sure I even knew he was the TEFLwatch guy until the end there when you came on ajarn. I have no idea and no information about the reasons he says he's closing TEFwatch, but it seems like a lot more of the same (very personal). Doesn't seem like a healthy way to run a site like that, with your heart laid bare and your ears perked up for personal talk.

I would have thought the first requirement for an admin of a site like TEFLWatch would be to have pretty thick skin. That an a reputation for being honest. Seems like he has neither of these qualities.

Maybe we can get DD to read the PM's between Whitey and Phil and get us the inside story.

Uh, like yourself? So is it true you're begging Whitey to give you the site?

Why not just start your own site? You must think the site has some value I suspect, or perhaps you have other motives.

I think the last thing we need is a site like that to be in the hands of an Ajarn inner circle member. And you've got just as many agendas as Whitey if not more.

Funny, that was the friendly advice Greg gave me after we'd settled the mistaken identity thing. He didn't realize it was "Matthew" when I emailed him. He said if he'd known, he'd not have worried, because he respects me as an ajarn poster. Just for the record, I don't think that's too much to say about our private chats. I thought that made perfect sense (both that he didn't realize and the advice NOT to bother with TEFLwatch). What a stupid idea to revamp TEFLwatch - the whole thing is already mired in ill-repute and failure.

Why you even mention some ominous "other motives" just reminds me of a large percentage of older Thailand TEFLers and how caught up they get in 'the game'. For others (such as myself) all of this occurs in the context of my actual chosen career and that means my actions related to TEFLing have to do with really just one thing: TEFLing! Can you BELIEVE that?

Anyway, idiotic thing for me to do in the first place but entirely innocent I'm afraid (Greg will tell you the same, I'd hope, but really not care or hold my breath). Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not a player in the (same) games!

I think the last thing we need is a site like that to be in the hands of an Ajarn inner circle member. And you've got just as many agendas as Whitey if not more.
Again, you are referring to a whole world of ideas, motives, relationships, etc. that I simply do not exist in. Therefore I don't know what to say to this bit!..except that perhaps I will NEED to disassociate myself from ajarn etc. someday if indeed I did want to do some TEFL site NOT because of any real conflict or agenda or whatever but because of the annoying and weirdly viral perception of one.

It's true I've made some great friends through AjarnForum. I don't know how I'd have met the wonderful people I'm proud to call my friends in Thailand without it. Therefore that site does have value to me!

Other than that, it's all kind of conceptual and vague, what you're intimating!

    Peace Bro

Shall we have just a peak at the email I sent. Since you are so interested and I'm here to help, let's do...

Sorry to hear that TEFLwatch is closed, man...Just saw it now. So that explains the spam posts on the front page! I was wondering what CAR LOANS had to do with teaching until I went to the forum section and found your announcement. Too bad, as I was looking for some info on a new prospective employer. Seemed like it's still available to read and search? I'll check...

You mention ajarnforum having some negative influence on the failure of TEFLwatch. I hope I personally didn't cause any virtual/actual harm. That would never be my intention, anyway. I only speak for myself though...whether I'm a mod or not, it doesn't matter: I just go on whatever site and call it as I see it mate.

Anyway, I was just wondering what will be the fate of TEFLwatch.org? Will the other country forums still run? Were they ever really active? It's really a Thailand site, isn't it. Will you sell the domain name? Will you re-open it in the future.

In any event, this might sound ridiculous, but I'd like to suggest that if you are ready to be entirely done with it and wash your hands of it, donate it "kit-and-kaboodle" to me!....[stuff about what I was kind of daydreaming to be a good Thailand TEFL site....]

....Just let me know. The offer stands, if only on the outer rungs of possibility. Even if I'd be terrified if you actually ended up taking me the least be seriously!

Good luck, man. In whatever you do and whatever you decide to do with the site.

    Sincerely, Matthew
Mate, can you see how your impression of me as someone who'd beg for TEFLwatch is just way off?

Honestly....remember what it was like to just be a decent, nice person among other decent, nice people? Was it so boring you can never let up on others ever again?

And one of those strange but true stories .... I recommended to Greg that he turn over TW to the moderator hero on TW. hero had been there since the beginning and always had seemed to be a fair guy. Still think it would be a good idea for hero to take over.

Greg later turned that into me wanting Ajarn. But then again, lets just say some of his claims are less that truthful. After all, look how he twisted your email.

Hey dude, lay off the pretentious "mate" BS OK?

I seem to have struck a nerve judging from the edgy defensiveness of your replies. Kinda funny, since you were getting on whitey's case about wearing his heart on his sleeve. I get the impression you consider yourself to be pure as the driven snow, which is OK I guess, we need people like that. Can you drop some Buddhist scripture on us again, just for laughs?

But seriously, what made TEFLwatch valuable in my opinion was in part that it didn't belong to the ajarn.com cadre of regulars. You know, the 12 or so posters who do most of the posting over there.

It wasn't about BKK and all the mods n' matey-mates patting each other on the back ad nauseum. It's a great scene and all, but jeez...there needs to be another editorial voice, and I think teflwatch provided that for a while. I enjoyed their muckraking attitude. I think they got bogged down in personality conflicts, and they should have had thicker skin.

Just seems to me you're putting a lot of effort in to justifying this little move of yours on both forums, and coming off as a bit of an ego-crackpot in the process. If your motives are so pure and simple, get on with it, and spare us the church-bulletin like rhetoric.

Matthew's actually been here for a similar time to yourself, and most of us came from somewhere else, so what's the problem?

Not at all, but if you post as yourself on forums, perhaps there is a tendency to defend and protect yourself. An anonymous nick and an end to pic threads and personal info/experience posts would probably do an end to all that...I might start posting much more rough and tumble shit. It ain't either or you know. I'm just not always as cynical as your average Thailand TEFLer. Guess you noticed...bro!

Fair enough! Ain't really my concern. I was just thinking it might be fun to kind of get involved in another kind of site...just a whim. Anyway...all that 'hand over the site stuff' is right boring. & hatever you might think, I'm not some kind of ajarn -enamored Bangkok Phil/LDMA house niggah. Would you like me to say FUCK AJARN? "FUCK AJARN".

Why yes, I am putting a lot of effort into it. Is there something wrong with that? Please provide your list of proper and improper places to put in "a lot of effort" and I will see if I can alter my behavior to fit within your life rules.

Nothing wrong with it, but that doesn't mean you can't get called out for being a pompous ass.
Going by what you said about "this is my last word on it" or some such...And about being detached, or the need for being so in the whole online TEFL milieu, and continuing to carry on and on seems to me to be an example of somebody putting on airs and talking out of both sides of his mouth.
