Luigi. Erbil and Suleymaniya etc are among the saf st cities in the world. Certainly more so than most Asian cities. Don’t confuse the Arab clusterfuck Iraq with the KAR. Corruption and nepotism etc on a par with Thailand btw

Having a real 'what do? moment- more input needed. One of my biggest gripes in Mandalay has been shared accommodation. Got the head of school to change the rules on that last week giving teachers a whole lot more freedom. The school have expressed they are super keen for me to stay on; nice to feel wanted. I have no choice in moving up a grade level- parent power wins, I follow the kids. I'm actually keen on this as my current DOS and myself clash. It's for the best.

    Cons:

Transfer to Taungyyi was refused, bit of a shame that.
Kinda over Mandalay, but it is survivable
    Local food
I don't want to be stuck in a rut- moving to another country is always exciting and I enjoy it greatly.

    Confused!

    You experienced it already.

    Hit the road.

Just have picking your own local security team as part of the package.

    Hi Dear,

This decision is really up to you!! No one can make the decision for you I'm afraid. Staying longer at a school looks good on a resume that's another reason to stay. If you've only been at the school a year (which I think you have), then it is best to stay at least two. Another thing, is you have to look at financials. If you want to save money, but aren't saving a hell of a lot, it is better to move elsewhere to a place you can save money (or make more money).

I am sick of China to an extent, but I stay on to get the experience under my belt. I have to put up and sacrifice things based on my decisions. I don' know if I am helping, but I hope I am.

Don't be afraid to try other countries, and you have to look at the whole package before you decide. You should look for a job before you decide if you will stay or leave. Hiring season is in full swing and by March or April, you have less opportunities.

The particular aspect that only you can assess is whether the downside of Mandalay is bearable.

One thing for sure is that moving costs money.

career-wise, probably...but experience-wise a boon: new culture, new language, new cuisine among a people struggling to establish their own state: exciting, challenging...and a much better option, imo, than another year in backwater Burma...opportunities elsewhere will still be there after a tour in Kurdistan: why settle for tame, settled and safe when still (relatively) young...and think of the stories you'll be able to tell...

I've decided to move on from Mandalay, as comforting as it would be to stay, it's a big world full of opportunity and adventure. That sounded pretty contrived 555
Will be ironing out some issues with Kurdistan, but I'm keen on it. Still got China as a possibility, but will only be looking at cities where countryside escapes are easy on the weekends. A possibility I only just thought about was Mongolia/Central Asia. Know a few friends who worked in the region and they have nothing but positive things to say about aside from the punishing winters.

Check into Shenzhen.. many schools hiring there and you can scoot off to HK pretty easily.
