    McWalen Schools.

Anyone know what the score is with the McWalen outfit? Or where they can be contacted.

The reason I ask is that a member of our family enrolled with them and had to change his plans due to a motoring accident and injury received.
As a digression our family member had not got his visa via McWalen as he is a holder of both a Thai I D, passport etc as well as a U K passport born here Thai mum English father educated in England so no problems there apart from poor Thai language ability spoken and written!!.

McWalen assured him that no problems involved and he could resume study when fit to do so.

Seems as the school, is closed and our family member is some 10,000 baht the poorer as he can't do his course or get a refund. Any answers, clues etc as to the situation as well as McWalens whereabouts would be welcome.

Yeah, whatever happened to that lot.

He (Mac Walen) was raking it in a few years ago when he unearthed and made the most of the Ed-Visa loophole. Fooker was right raking it in, much to the chagrin of many a TV member.

Had branded language centers in every major city and was boasting of being a self-made millionaire by the age of 30.

Would get the sadfuk posters all a hissin' an' a spittin' no end.

Interested to see what happened over the last 2 or 3 years. Has he still got shops? Still doing the visa racket? Still getting TV posters all a jumpin'?

And certainly shouldn't surprise anyone that this disreputable outfit was/has been deeply associated with the likes of TVF, whom themselves have a long history of shady business dealings and unscrupulous practices.

    Birds of a feather.

    I thought that they did.

I think they started issuing 90 day extensions based on Education, instead of the 12 month ones, except for universities and one year uni tuition had to be paid up front.

When that started happening I think that Walen schools happened to be 'exempt' from the ruling and they still got 12 monthers. This drove the haters even more mental.

Was around 3 years ago I think. No idea what happened after that, but I'm sure the story would be interesting.

Unless I'm mistaken the ONLY walen school that was able to get year long extensions of stays was one of his branches on an island in the south. None of the bangkok, pattaya or chiang mai schools could pull it and even that island stopped doing it too.

Nowadays most students get 60 day extensions of stays and are tested by the MOE at the 8th month.

I think the "haters" were driven mad by Walen school only because Mac's one shrewd businessman. At one time he had more students enrolled than all the other private thai language schools combined.

Back to the O/P's "family member" problem. I'd say IF that person holds a thai passport and thai i/d card they don't NEED a visa to study at ANY school.

Now if on the rare (and foolish) chance the family member entered thailand on the UK passport, what they'd need to do is fly out on it, turn around and fly back in on the thai one so they're here as a thai not as a person holding a UK passport.

I'd call Mac's main branch on the 24th floor of the Times Square Building on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok and see what's what..

Done some searching looks like he is scamming out of Thailand now, bit too warm for him here it seems, now peddling his financial ideas in his native Poland, Ponzi scam Polish style.

It seems as if that is what the lad did hence my question.Sadly not all travellers are astute as you Todddaniels.

I've only lived and worked here for 20 + years and I know the rules but he didn't, Easy mistake to make.
