The Stuff I've Seen In Thai Schools

I've been teaching in Thailand for a few years now and some of the stuff I've seen over the years has been simply priceless....

    Here's a student's answer on a history test....it gave me a laugh.

This was on a grammar test....it was all I could do to keep from laughing out loud...

    Amazing Thailand....

I was checking our sons homework one night finding out what mistakes he had made.
What i found was the teacher had made more marking mistakes then our son had answered questions wrong.

We had a young lad staying with us a while back and had much the same experience. His spoken English was way better than the teachers and it all became very embarrassing. The staff just didn't have a clue.

    Can a teacher please explain.
    "Ungrammatically correct"

Would it be the same as grammatically incorrect?

    Enquiring minds want to know.

It's really disappointing that the young kids are being kept down by Thai teachers who know shite about English.

    It really is quite diabolical.

We put shit on Teflers but they are light years ahead of most upcountry Thai teachers when it comes to teaching English.

The kids are the big losers here.

I could, but I doubt that the explanation would properly embrace Thainess and its superiority in delivering content in English.

......." many Thai university students can be easily put to shame by the English ability of some bar girls and taxi drivers, such as this motorcycle taxi driver who just gave an interview partly in English to the BBC."

I have more than several rides with older Thai taxi drivers that were perfectly fluent ... because they were working for the US back in the Vietnam war days. Frigging surprising the first time...

I too could write a book about the things I've seen. Forget English, it's terrible. It's the basic Isaan behavior that blows me away. A 15 year old boy puts his foot up on a chair and is trimming his toenails. I tell him to knock it off it's gross, he laughs at me and goes back to trimming. I throw his ass out of class and add to my list of rules " no toenail trimming" Big ugly ladyboy pulls out her tweezers, arm over head and starts plucking arm pit hairs. I explain, not in class. What would make a student think it is OK to do something like that in class?

Learned from birth observing behaviour of parents and elders.

I have 3 children in private school and as far as I'm concerned the school couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery.

My eldest daughter is in a singing contest on Monday. School is closed for normal lessons. What time does my daughter have to be at school for the competition? 9 am. What time is she due to sing at? 4pm. They're fcuking nuts.

In my forthcoming novel, that will be the first myth to dispel...Thais can order a piss up with 17 minutes notice. Planning for the fact that a class might be cancelled due to an activity that was planned a month ago is a different story...

Of course at Post Graduate level the steaks are higher
A computer room flooded as no roof
A head of English who couldn't speak English as she bought her Masters
A brothel/hotel where promising sophomores could 'improve' their grades

A rector who survived a vote of confidence by stuffing envelopes
A collectionn of great donated and at the time undownloadable English Literature unused for years as the VIP had lost the key
A university where disgraced fake degree professors stay in post

and so it goes in the land of slime

Fitting up a Tefilista for fake fotoshop is amatuer stuff
I saw the dead bodies of the non local workers bodies obstructing the Poo Yais new house

and so its goes in the sewer of love

Just a quick glance at Thai television will explain much.
Mostly modeled after American TV which explains much of the global brain damage we are witnessing.

We have been raised on American TV , and it's been direct from birth as they are in English and they flood our cinemas and Teles with movies.
How has that affected us, have we become American?
