    Tedet Exam. What is it?

My kids went for a school test today. My wife cannot explain to me as to why it's done on a Sunday and why she was charged 150 Baht for each child. I'm somewhat confused as she says it's a government test. So why do I have to pay? And what's it got to do with the National Curriculum, as I understand it's not compulsory?

I had a bunch of students out today to do the test...I've never heard of it either.

The deeper ideals of an instituted National Curriculum should be highly disconcerting and scary....

    Resist such systems.

I have never heard of it either but the information on the website indicates it is testing only Science and Maths and is aimed at primary school level.

There isn't much info on the website, but it does include lists of all the schools taking the test today and the names of all the students taking the tests.

The TEDET test is a test to measure knowledge, understanding and skills (literacy-based test).

What the HOD just told me is that the test is designed for M2 students who seek to go to the better science/math schools/programs in M4. We're a mathayom school so that's where her perspective is coming from.

As there is a science/math program for the lower mathayom levels, I would imagine the test is also for prathom students wanting to enter the program.

Thanks for looking into it CSFFan but I'm none the wiser. And I fail to understand why a student has to pay to take the test.

Most Thai universities look for students who have been in the "Science/Math" program.

    From my experience....

Admittance to this program is a matter of GPA, being able to pass the particular school's entrance exam and the TEDET score.

As this test is for a specific program, there is a fee associated with the test in order to help eliminate those students that while are able to meet the educational requirements are unable to meet the financial requirements of this program. Students pay extra to be in this program in most schools, the paying extra starts with the test fees.
