Would like to offer free conversation classes... best way to advertise?

    Hi all,

I'm currently in Thailand doing some research into mobile phones and communication as part of my masters degree in Anthropology. I have a partnership with Chulalongkorn University. While I'm here I need to speak with as many Thai people as possible about their phones, what they are doing with them etc etc.

I thought a nice idea (as I'm a CELTA qualified teacher) would be to offer a free conversation class in exchange for a discussion on people and their phones. I'm thinking 40min conversation and 20mins or so doing my research.

I've stuck and ad. on the Bangkok craigslist but does anyone have any decent ideas as to how I meat reach a bigger audience?

    Thanks!

    Liz

Contact a few teachers from ajarn, ask to speak to their classes, actually now I think about it you could speak to a few University professors here, I think Aging One is, for example.

Try playing game, as that is where they are.
I don't play but all day I get requests for a heart as my TGF uses my phone.
So if you need information try playing games

What are they doing with their mobiles?
Well, years ago some used to wake me up at 3am asking "Tham Aray Yuu" (what are you doing?) or "Kin Khow Ree Yang" (have you eaten?).

Nowadays, thanks to the internet on mobiles, they're killing the art of conversation. I see couples talking together face to face and then it seems like a nano-second after the discussion on a topic is over, they start tapping away at keys on their phones as they log-in to twitfacebook.com or whatever.
Or, they start holding the phone in the air looking as though they're searching for a good signal reception when in fact they're just looking for a good angle to take yet another photo of themselves.

Personally, I think Thais will soon de-evolve back into the primordial ooze from whence we all came (supposedly). They can't walk 500meters without a m/c taxi so whats the point in them having legs? I'm often told by Thais "I'm lazy for think" and now it seems they're too bloody lazy to talk to each other.

And don't start me off about txtng. ffs, wats wid all d abbrevations n spellings? day cant spell or smthg? prolly 2 busy takin pix wid da mobies dan lerning 2 read'nrite an 2 speak gud english like dat which what I does.

Make a questionnaire with the questions in English and Thai and then go to the business areas at lunch time. Ask them your questions as probably most will speak some English, if not then show them the questions in Thai and have them reply in writing then have someone later to translate.

DON'T think about makng a multi-answer questionnaire for them to answer as Thais will tick anything. An old company of mine had a questionnaire as to how our customers had got to know about us, i.e from the TV, Radio, Newpaper Ad, A friend etc. About 60% answered TV even though we never advertised on any media.

If. You are affiliated with the Uni, then surely that is where you would find a wealth of people who may want a free "English lesson"?
