Parts of roadside bombs have been found to be of Iranian manufacture. What's the big deal?

this was a simple attempt at distraction. and apparently it was successful with the '24' crowd.Originally Posted by stroller
according to the military, 170 US soldiers have been killed by these EFPs. that's approx. 5% of all US deaths. isn't it plausible that the opposition forces in iraq bought them off the black market?

vitriol aside, of course it is......but plausibility and casus belli are worlds apart---or at least they should be.
I generally find it more useful to analyse facts rather then rely on associations which confirm my suspicions.
of course i'm familiar with the expression, but i'd like to know how you think it applies to this context.Originally Posted by Boon Mee
No link between Iran's government and weapons in Iraq.
Educated guess? More like making up stuff. But the U.S. officials acknowledge that what the briefer said in Baghdad is only a deduction—in other words a guess, perhaps even an educated guess. The "assessment," the four sources said, is not backed up by hard intelligence linking any specific weapons shipments or Quds Force activity in Iraq to any specific order by any individual Iranian leader. Various reports—and some statements by U.S. officials—have suggested that the Quds Force reports to either Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, or Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme religious leader. But the intelligence officials said the U.S. government has no intelligence reporting proving that either of these leaders knew about or issued any order regarding the shipment of weapons into Iraq.

With the current U.S. government's history of lies, deceit, and false accusations nobody would believe them now even if Ahmadinejad himself were standing in Baghdad holding a Steyr.
Well, it wouldn't be the first time, would it? They're also making up stuff about Iran's nuclear program.
Entire & Link: The BlotterKidnapped or Defected? Top Iranian General Disappears

Hoda Osman and Christopher Isham Report:
The mysterious disappearance of an Iranian general in Turkey in early February has led to speculation he either was kidnapped or defected.
Iran has reportedly asked Interpol to investigate the general's disappearance. Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki was quoted by Iran's news agency today as saying that a foreign ministry official was currently in Turkey to investigate the disappearance and has asked the Turkish government "to inquire into the issue and give explanation on Asgari's whereabouts."
One respected analyst with sources in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard says Gen. Ali Reza Asgari has defected and is now in a European country with his entire family, where he is cooperating with the U.S.
Other reports have suggested that the general may have been kidnapped by the Israeli secret service, the Mossad. A spokesperson at the CIA declined to comment on the reported defection.
"This is a fatal blow to Iranian intelligence," said the source, explaining that Asgari knows sensitive information about Iran's nuclear and military projects.
Iran would be mad not to seek nuclear weapons. Look at North Korea: from founding member of Axis of Evil worthy of destruction to potential recipient of... US supplied aid energy, official US recognition and removal from the State Departments "terror state" list and iron clad security pacts.
Armying yourself with nuclear weapons is the only way to stop the global tyrant from destroying your country.
They champion falsehood, support the butcher against the victim, the oppressor against the innocent child. May God mete them the punishment they deserve
This is what we like to see!:
Cheney vows Iran will not get nuclear weapons
"US Vice President Dick Cheney warned Friday from the hangar deck of a US aircraft carrier in the Gulf that the United States will not let Iran get nuclear weapons"

Well if Dick Cheney says it it must be true.
Now wheres those pesky Iraqi WMD's?
Saddam's nukes were given to the Iranians, just before the Iraq invasion, don't you remember?
More likely the Syrians, having trusted the Parsis with a bunch of his planes before the Gulf War.

but i'm guessing 'no' on both counts.
Cheney is making bold statements.
Perhaps this is a diplomatic move to try to negotiate or make a deal. But I don't see how diplomacy or some quid pro quo will work: Iran is determined. Period.
And, the most important question is: how will Cheney and the U.S. try to stop Iran from gettin nuclear weapons.
A surgical strike on the sites via missiles and the are is the only option they have.
............
Before W. Bush leaves office in Jan. of 2009, I believe there will be a surgical strike.
What I don't know is how Iran will respond.
I think both the U.S. and Iran have contingency plans and different scenarios.
I think it's going to get weird - not the strike - but the response to it.
By the time Iran has enough fissile material to have a bomb or three, Ahmed will be out of office anyway.
It will take an awful lot more than a surgical strike to destroy Iran's nuclear programme.
Probably the best chance for Iran to halt it's nuclear program would be for Israel to join the IAEA, but I doubt you will read much about that in the corporate media.
