Rio violence forces military intervention - Telegraph
A good friend of mine lives in a particularly dodgy suburb of Rio (well a town on the edge), and her dad is what can only be described as "a cop" in the favelas, and death threats are a regular reality. Her mum's in the military, and is also involved in the crackdown.
I got a slightly distressing message from her not long ago about what's kicking off down there. It's the old bus attack thing again... not nice. Seems she's OK, but it's all kicking off around where her house is so she says.
She just sent me this, anyway:
G1 - Rio de Janeiro
...well it's a change.
