John McCain won't back Graham-Cassidy bill, likely ending GOP health care push

Sen. John McCain announced Friday in a statement that he cannot "in good conscience" vote for the GOP's latest plan to overhaul Obamacare, likely ending Republicans' latest effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

"I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal," the Arizona Republican said in a statement. "I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried. Nor could I support it without knowing how much it will cost, how it will (affect) insurance premiums, and how many people will be helped or hurt by it. Without a full CBO score, which won't be available by the end of the month, we won't have reliable answers to any of those questions."

McCain's "no" vote means it is likely Republicans won't be able to repeal and replace Obamacare before September 30, as Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky said he would not back Graham-Cassidy and Sen. Susan Collins of Maine has said she is leaning "no" on the proposal. But there are still questions as to where Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski is at the moment. It's also unclear if senators on the fence would support a procedural motion on the bill even if they decide they are against Graham-Cassidy in the end.

Quote from retired US Navy officer Jim Wright:

    https://www.facebook.com/Stonekettle...60120347356697

    "Your healthcare is YOUR right.

You healthcare is NOT a states right.
But Graham-Cassidy will throw nearly 30 MILLION people off healthcare insurance, gut MEDICAID and MEDICARE expansion, and turn your healthcare (if you get any) over to the states -- the SAME state governments that are right this very minute trying to legislate who can vote, who you can marry, and what bathroom you can use.
You think you're safe. You think it's over. You think you've won.
    You're wrong.
    It's NEVER over.
And politicians like Murkowski and Collins never stay bought.
Murkowski right now faces a choice: She a can accept the blatant bribe offered her by the GOP, keep Obamacare for Alaska and fuck over EVERY SINGLE OTHER PERSON IN THE UNITED STATES, or stand up and make sure EVERY citizen has healthcare.
Now, fuck you, I got mine, there's nothing more Republican than that. And Murky is a Republican through and through.
And I'm gonna tell you something from personal experience, Murkowski is not a hero. She's the offspring of one of the most corrupt and self-serving political machines Alaska has ever produced, and that's saying something because you ain't seen corruption until you visit Juneau. She was personally appointed by it. If you think for one damned minute that she'll vote no, she'll reject that bride and face down her own party without you being right up her ass, you. are. a. damned. fool.
It's come down to this. And I've warned you repeatedly about putting your hopes on some damned politician. Just because she voted against the ACA repeal once, doesn't mean she will again -- especially when she can please her own base by keeping the ACA for Alaska while screwing over everybody. If you're depending a politician's altruism -- ESPECIALLY Murkowski -- you deserve what you get.
Folks, you know what I'm going to say: If you want a better nation, you have to better and more involved citizens. Call your Senators. Now. Today. This minute. Blow up their phones and their email and their fax machines. Beat down their doors.
This is the moment. Right now.
And if your representatives have come out against Graham-Cassidy, then call and thank them. Do it.
Your healthcare is NOT a state's right.
Your healthcare is NOT your employer's right.
Your healthcare is NOT business's right.
    Your healthcare is YOUR right.
Fight for it. Now. Make the call.
If you've never done anything else political in your life, now is the time. Make the call. Send the fax. Send the email. There are more than 130,000 of you here. Rally. Now is the time.
    BE better citizens".

None of which I've ever said. Ever.

Im salty because he was a choir boy for ending obamacare, but in his vendetta for trump, voted no. Clearly he talked with Dems prior and voted no. Even swaggered up and dropped the vote like a mic drop. And it was all because fuck trump.

    Therefore fuck that guy.

How much are your monthly premiums? Do you qualify for subsidies? You think its fair I have to pay around $14,000/year for healthcare, and that's if I don't really have any major incidents?

No surprise. Unlike the Republican sheeple voting yes, McCain has good reason for voting no. Specifically, rushing the bill though with zero bipartisan input and most importantly no CBO input on the economic impact and number folks who will lose coverage. Failure to pass this bill essentially dooms repeal and replace Obama care. After 30 Sept would require 60 votes to pass a new bill. No way will that happen and will force congress tocome up with a bipartisan fix the deficienies in ACA. Something that should have been proposed long ago.

Pre-existing condition. Without ACA I can't get insurance. Better to fix the problems with the current program than trash and replace. Tell me; what's the GOP's true goal with repeal and replace.

I would be in favor of trashing and replacing with medicare for all. I believe that is inevitable but that won't happen until after 2020. That said when the ACA was passed it was with the understanding that it would have to be tweaked and improved over time. No one would have thought that it would have been left basically in its original state. The cost and other issues can be addressed and resolved.

I hear ya. But you didn't answer the question. You think it's fair that I have to pay that much as a 33 year old male. Just me. No health problems. For a good policy similar to what I had prior to Obamacare that cost around $200/month.

Nobody thinks that is fair and it would never had gotten that bad if your party did not cock block making the necessary changes for over eight years.

Misplaced anger. You should be angry with your party for not having something to replace the ACA with after 7 years of repeal talk.

What a bunch of fucked up people ... Ryan, McConnell. They think their constituents are a bunch of imbeciles. Maybe they're right.

I get it. Middle class/Working class are taking it in the shorts. The ACA fucked them over and it isn't right.

But fuck me to tears ... the anger shouldn't be at the poor saps who now get subsidized health care. It should be directed at the cunts in Congress who want to help the health care industry keep feeding at the teat of those middle/working class folks.
