Assume the we is Republicans? We can only use the budget reconciliation process if we actually author a bill and get it passed. Once we have done that, then we can go though the reconciliation process. Hopefully we Republican Senators can agree on the financial reform bill, send it to the house for incorporation to bill they have already passed.

Hahaha. Remember when Limbaugh said he would move to Costa Rica if HCR passed?

Video: Rush Limbaugh threatens to leave for Costa Rica if health care reform is passed

Now the bulbous hypocrite says he'll only go there for his health care even though Costa Rica is a far more socialised system than what just passed in the US.

After the health care reform bill did in fact pass yesterday many of Limbaugh's listeners reminded him about the pledge. Not surprisingly Limbaugh backtracked a bit saying he only meant he would go to Costa Rica for his health care and not that he would be moving to the country.

In case it's never been explained to you before the fact that the NHS in the UK exists doesn't stop anyone here from buying private healthcare insurance or paying for their healthcare by the episode if they want to. It seems that a lot of Americans assume that there's no other option than the NHS in the UK.

Yep, funny how that # keeps changing from 15 mil to 30 or 31 mil. Anyway, many of the uninsured are healthy young working folks who do not want to pay. How many are illegal immigrants? To force the whole pop to buy something they may not want is unconstitutional. The govt cannot force people to buy anything.

15 million more Americans eligible for Medicaid under the HC bill?

Interesting take on the states and their budget woes.

Quote:
States Sue Over Overhaul That Will Bust State Budgets (Update2)

By Pat Wechsler

March 23 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama faces a fight over the health-care overhaul from states that sued today because the legislation’s expansion of Medicaid imposes a fiscal strain on their cash-strapped budgets.

Florida, Texas and Pennsylvania are among 14 states that filed suit after the president signed the bill over the constitutionality of the burden imposed by the legislation. The health-care overhaul will make as many as 15 million more Americans eligible for Medicaid nationwide starting in 2014 and will cost the states billions to administer.

States faced with unprecedented declines in tax collections are cutting benefits and payments to hospitals and doctors in Medicaid, the health program for the poor paid jointly by state and U.S. governments. The costs to hire staff and plan for the average 25 percent increase in Medicaid rolls may swamp budgets, said Toby Douglas, who manages the Medicaid program for California, which hasn’t joined the lawsuits.

“The states are coming through the worst fiscal period in the history of record keeping,” said Vernon Smith, a former Medicaid director for Michigan and now a principal at the research and consulting firm Health Management Associates in Lansing, Michigan. “Medicaid is the most significant, most visible and most costly part of this expansion and states fully expect to see increases in their spending.”
California’s Deficit

For California, with a $20 billion budget deficit, the extra load will cost at least an additional $2 billion to $3 billion annually, said Douglas, chief deputy director for California’s health care programs. He said the overhaul is currently projected to add 1.6 million people to the 7 million enrolled in his state’s program.

“We face enormous challenges just sustaining our existing program,” said Douglas in a March 18 telephone interview. “I just don’t see states having the capacity to move forward on these changes in this environment.”

Please confirm this:

This health care bill has passed the Senate already, correct?

Now, that it passed the House, it goes to the President's desk for signing.

I think bills went to the House first, and then the Senate.

Thanks to anyone who can answer.

Threats and actions against lawmakers that voted for the HC bill have been occurring.

Coffin placed on Carnahan's lawn

By JAKE SHERMAN 3/24/10

A coffin was placed on a Missouri Democrat’s lawn, another in a string of incidents against lawmakers after their vote Sunday on a health care overhaul.

Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-Mo.) had a coffin placed “near his home,” a spokesman said Wednesday evening.

This came after Rep. Tom Perriello’s (D-Va.) brother’s gas lines were cut, Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) received death threats and Rules Committee Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) received a message saying snipers were being deployed to kill children of those who voted for health care overhaul.

Several other Democrats have had threats leveled against them, prompting a closed-door briefing of Democratic members by the FBI, Capitol Police and the House Sergeant at Arms.

More threats.

Quote:
Steny Hoyer: Members are at risk
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is warning that some of his Democratic colleagues are being threatened with violence when they go back to their districts — and he wants Republicans to stand up and condemn the threats.

The Maryland Democrat said more than 10 House Democrats have reported incidents of threats or other forms of harassment about their support of the highly divisive health insurance overhaul vote.
Hoyer emphasized that he didn’t have a specific number of threats and that was just an estimate.

Maybe those members across the pond need to know something about the Republicans. Conservatism in America isn't Brooks Brother suits with Florsheim wingtips, it's redneck survivalists with gun collections and stockpiles of Spam tins buried in the back yard.

When Liberals get angry they rely on prose and often quote FDR. When rednecks get angry they start shooting. Or better put these days, get someone to do it for them under the guise of any one of many doctrines left by certain founding fathers or modern religious leaders. Aka fookin dangerous!

Heh...what happens when a country takes on massive amounts of debt, mainly to finance a vastly expanded Government Health Care scheme while promising not to raise taxes on the middle class.

A. A massive tax hike on the middle class.

Uh, uh, what about that promise not to raise them taxes on folks making <250K per year, eh?

Is this field-hand a one-termer or what???

If you read the details, it isn't. The "mandate" doesn't kick in until you need insurance, then you pay a small penalty.

Either way, it's another reason we need a public option, like the one proposed by Grayson. By 2014, when the "mandate" kicks in, there will likely be an affordable public option available.

Or we could all be COMMUNISTS by then! Bwahahaha!

Garrison Keillor:

The Republicans fought long and hard for people’s right to wait three hours in an emergency room for someone to take their blood pressure, and they went down to defeat, and now they should stop and rethink their Waterloo strategy. The picture of the grinning GOP congressmen holding “Kill the Bill” posters was not an attractive one. Those guys all get excellent [healthcare] from the government, at bargain prices. If you choke on your shoe during a speech in the House of Representatives, you’ll be whisked away to Walter Reed, and specialists will extract your hoof from your mouth and your head from your colon and clean you up and all for a tiny annual premium. It does not behoove men who are enjoying a huge pork sandwich to deny a few pork rinds to others and to grin in the process…

Now Sen. McCain says there will be no further cooperation with the administration. OK then. Thanks for clearing that up. Now that bipartisanship has been buried for good, Democrats can get about the business of running the government, which is their duty as the majority party, and let the Republicans sulk in their rooms and work on their Facebook updates. They’ve made it clear that if Mr. Obama suddenly decided to come out in favor of Mother’s Day, they would fight against it as a ruthless exercise of federal power and a violation of due process. Fine. Talk to the hand.
