In case some of you hadn’t noticed, the rethugs have given up on Palin. Bout time.

Now we know Palin has no chance in '12

Bill Kristol -- the man who first discovered her -- turns on her. This may well spell her political end

Bill Kristol, the influential Weekly Standard editor, is a famously opportunistic pundit. So it's very bad news for Sarah Palin that even Kristol appears to have given up on a Palin presidential campaign this year.

Kristol went out of his way on MSNBC this morning to express disappointment with Palin, a striking shift for a man who has been Palin's most prominent champion in the press since he met her on a cruise in Alaska in 2007.

"I have a high regard for Sarah Palin, but I will say I've been disappointed since she resigned as governor," Kristol said on "Morning Joe." "I thought she had a real chance to take the lead on a few policy issues, do a little more in terms of framing the policy agenda. I don't think she's done that. But she's a shrewd woman and I wouldn't underestimate her."

By voicing criticism, Kristol is throwing in his lot with a growing group of conservative pundits (documented here) who have expressed skepticism about Palin and her potential as a serious presidential candidate. In late October, for example, Karl Rove said he had doubts about Palin's gravitas. “With all due candor, appearing on your own reality show on the Discovery Channel, I am not certain how that fits in the American calculus of 'that helps me see you in the Oval Office,'" Rove said.

In particular, Kristol is echoing a point made by columnist Charles Krauthammer on Fox in mid-December about Palin's post-2008 career. "Now, I would have hoped that she would spend the next years sort of getting really deep into policy and becoming an expert the way a lot of other candidates have done as they mature and approach the presidency. She hasn't," Krauthammer said.

Kristol is well aware that Palin's stock has taken some significant hits in recent months. In December, there was a devastating poll showing support for a Palin presidential bid had dropped 20 points, to 49 percent, since December 2008. Then, in January, there was the mass shooting in Tucson, Ariz., that turned into a political fiasco for Palin, both because the media seized on her now-infamous cross-hairs map and because of her widely panned video response to the tragedy.

Kristol is, if anything, late to the Palin-skeptic view. That makes sense in the context of his long relationship with Palin, which goes back to a 2007 Weekly Standard fundraising cruise in Alaska. Kristol became instantly enamored with the then-Alaska governor, the New Yorker reported. The Weekly Standard quickly gave her a big boost with a friendly national profile in the summer of 2007. By June 2008, Kristol was publicly predicting that John McCain would select Palin as his running mate, two months before McCain did just that.

At the end of the disastrous 2008 campaign, with pro-McCain and pro-Palin camps already emerging within the Republican ticket, Kristol was squarely in Palin's corner. No praise was too extravagant. Before the results were in on Election Day, Kristol was on Fox touting Palin's political future. "She reminds me a lot of FDR," he said. Michael Goldfarb, one of Kristol's writers at the Weekly Standard, went on to become one of Palin's press aides.

Kristol has written warmly about Palin as recently as the second half of 2010. In August he gushed that she attended an event observing the Jewish Sabbath. In September, he praised her speech at Glenn Beck's rally in Washington. That same month, he offered Palin's name as a top-three presidential contender, calling her "impressive."

It's the history between Kristol and Palin that makes his remarks this morning -- on hated MSNBC, no less -- so striking. As a matter of realpolitik, Kristol's criticism of Palin makes more and more sense. New polls out this week show President Obama beating Palin in two states that McCain won in 2008.

Burnt stinkin’ toast: Now we know Palin has no chance in '12 - War Room - Salon.com

There will be some here that will think “oh you are so frightened of her” (only to the extent she has any power, cause she’s a loose cannon).

No, most of us are not. Some of the Dems might even enjoy seeing her win the Rethug Presidental nomination for the 2012 election to run against Obama. Personaly I wouldn’t. Besides the US looking like a laughing stock to the entire world (cause ½ the US see’s Palin as a credible presidential candidate), Obama would not be challenged (an easy shoe in for 2012). He needs to be.

    Palin Derangement Syndrome Explained

Mebe this explains why y'all hate Sarah Palin with such venom, eh?

Whether she's the best choice for president is certainly debatable, but one thing is clear: liberals' loathing of Sarah Palin is rather 'over the top'...

    Some Rethugs also.

Some are slow (most Republicans) but they are catching on,….

The Quitter gets absolutely savaged by Republican insiders in the GOP/Village Daily today.

Among those taking aim at Palin in recent interviews with POLITICO are George F. Will, the elder statesman of conservative columnists; Peter Wehner, a top strategist in George W. Bush’s White House, and Heather Mac Donald, a leading voice with the right-leaning Manhattan Institute.

Matt Labash, a longtime writer for the Weekly Standard, said that because of Palin’s frequent appeals to victimhood and group grievance, “She’s becoming Al Sharpton, Alaska edition.”

Will has been in the anti-Quitter camp for a while, and after her comments about the Bushes being “blue bloods,” Wehner’s remarks are somewhat predictable.
But you know she’s in trouble when she’s getting trashed by Bill Kristol’s rag. Remember, she was Kristol’s protege. And for a neocon, I imagine being called Al Sharpton is the worst insult imaginable.

Meanwhile, Judd Gregg (R-NH) simultaneously unloads on her in The Hill.

…it is entirely possible that with no presumptive winner or even favorites, a candidate who runs second or third in a great many primaries could go into the convention with a sizable block of delegates.

Who would this favor? Does Sarah Palin come to mind? Although she is not viewed by most as strong enough to win, she is viewed by many as a person worth voting for to make a statement. And primaries tend to be populated by people who go to the polls with the purpose of making a statement.

Finishing second and third isn’t really a big deal — until you get enough delegates to be the nominee. And picking a nominee who it seems would be easily defeated by President Obama might not be the best statement.

    Oh, it’s on.

How long before The Quitter runs on a conservative/Teabagger ticket — just to screw the party?

The criticisms of Palin are often so vapid.

    Here's one that's funny:
“But she strikes me as a lot more Agnew than Reagan.”
As if being like Spiro Agnew is something to be ashamed of.
Agnew was unjustifiably demonized for being linked to Nixon.
And in big picture Nixon himself weathers the storm well enough, Oliver Stone notwithstanding.
Actually being compared to fine leaders like Agnew is flattering.
She certainly can't hold a candle to community organizers when it comes to legislative experience.
Spiro Agnew was an experienced and successful legislator.
The comparison is indeed apt but for the wrong reasons.
As governor, Agnew worked with the Democratic legislature to pass tax and judicial reforms, as well as tough anti-pollution laws. Projecting an image of racial moderation, Agnew signed the state's first open-housing laws and succeeded in getting the repeal of an anti-miscegenation law. However, during the riots that followed the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., in the spring of 1968, Agnew angered many African American leaders by lecturing them about their constituents in stating, "I call on you to publicly repudiate all black racists. This, so far, you have been unwilling to do."

    Guess who?
"Purie asks her what she would do with India in regards to Pakistan. “We can’t go back to that hyphenated days of, no we need to and can work together in working with Pakistan, and we have our issues there, too, and in a sense we do, but we need to work with Pakistan, but that’s one of those issues that we need to work on, as we strengthen our allies, there…”

I am one of the few on this fine forum who agree she is more than the disjointed gaffs attributed to her. But whether or not she is going to be the next 'boss' remains unclear.

Sarah Palin Meets With Prime Minister Netanyahu

In this handout image provided by the Israeli Government Press Office, Governor Sarah Palin and her husband Todd Palin meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara Netanyahu March 21, 2011 in Jerusalem, Israel. Netanyahu couple told the potential candidate for President of the United States all about the Book of Esther and the traditions of Purim.

    Here’s another shot.

Good question, eh? Sarah Palin the Anti-Obama: Why Aren’t We Putting Our Foot Down & Telling the Palestinians to Quit Their Bombing of Innocent Israelis?

Sarah Palin: “President Obama was inappropriate to intervene in a zoning issue in Israel. Let Israel decide their zoning issues themselves… I would have taken the opposite approach by the way.”

Sarah Palin on the Palestinians: Why is it that too often in the past that the US government has told Israel that they’re the ones, the Jewish community, that they need to back up or there will never be peace? They need to keep conceding. Why aren’t we putting our foot down with the other side and telling the Palestinians if you’re serious about peace quit the shellacking and the shelling, quit the bombing of innocent Israelis? Look at the young Israeli family that was slaughtered in their house a week or two ago. Look at today the bombing of those innocents at a bus station in Jerusalem. No we need to be strong.

Greta Van Susteren: You’d take a harder line?

Sarah Palin: I would take a harder line.

No shit...as would any rational person.

Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad expressed support for the bus bombing yesterday. What a total shower...

Heh & double heh: Sarah Palin Slams Lamestream Media and “Annoying Little Mosquito” Bill Maher.

Sarah Palin posted another excellent response to the latest disgusting attacks by the lamestream media including the despicable attack last week by Bill Maher.
    From her Facebook page:
Let’s keep pivoting around media bias, and not get distracted with the vulgar personal shots. Call out lies and set the record straight, but always keep the ball moving. No one ever won a game only playing defense.”
Upon my return from an outstanding and productive trip to India and Israel, I’ve been inundated with requests to respond to petty comments made in the media the past few days, including one little fella’s comment which decent people would find degrading. (I won’t bother responding to it though, because it was made by he who reminds me of an annoying little mosquito found zipped up in your tent; he can’t do any harm, but buzzes around annoyingly until it’s time to give him the proverbial slap.)
I’ve given this a lot of thought, and I’d like to share my thoughts on the never-ending issue of media bias.
When it comes to responding to the media, the standard warning is: Don’t pick a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel because calling out the media and holding them accountable is a risky endeavor. Too often the first instinct is to ignore blatant media bias, crudeness, and outright lies, and just hope the media instigator will grow up and provide fairer coverage if you bite your tongue and not challenge the false reporting of an openly hostile press. But I’ve never bought into that. That’s waving the white flag. I just can’t do it because I have too much respect for the importance of a free press as a cornerstone of our democracy, and I have great respect for the men and women in uniform who sacrifice so much to defend that First Amendment right. Media, with freedom comes responsibility.

Friends, too often conservatives or Republicans in general come across as having the fighting instinct of sheep.
I don’t. I was raised to believe that you don’t retreat when you’re on solid ground; so even though it often seems like I’m armed with just a few stones and a sling against a media giant, I’ll use those small resources to do what I can to set the record straight. The truth is always worth fighting for. Doing so isn’t whining or “playing the victim card”; it’s defending the truth in fairness to those who seek accurate information. I’ll keep attempting to correct misinformation and falsehoods about myself and my record, and I will certainly never shy from defending others who are unfairly attacked. This is in the name of justice.
But two decades in politics have taught me that when it comes to picking battles, often it’s best to ignore the truly petty, ugly personal media shots because engaging in a counter argument with disreputable, intolerant people doesn’t vindicate me; it merely gives those people the attention they seek. It wastes my time and it distracts from what we should focus on.
We must always remember the big picture. The media has always been biased. Conservatives – and especially conservative women – have always been held to a different standard and attacked. This is nothing new. Lincoln was mocked and ridiculed. Reagan was called an amiable dunce, a dangerous warmonger, a rightwing fanatic, and the insult list goes on and on. (But somehow Reagan still managed to win two major electoral landslides, and this was in the days before the internet and talk radio when all he had were three biased network news channels spinning reports on him. If he could do so much with so little and still be such an optimistic and positive leader, then surely we can succeed with the new media tools at our disposal.)
Let’s just acknowledge that commonsense conservatives must be stronger and work that much harder because of the obvious bias. And let’s be encouraged with a sense of poetic justice by knowing that the “mainstream” media isn’t mainstream anymore. That’s why I call it “lamestream,” and the LSM is becoming quite irrelevant, as it is no longer the sole gatekeeper of information.

    Makes sense to me!

Pure Class: Sarah Palin extols Geraldine Ferraro’s accomplishments

Sarah Palin took to Twitter and Facebook Saturday to mourn the passing of Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman on a national ticket who “broke one huge barrier and then went on to break many more.”“My family and I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of Geraldine Ferraro,” Palin, the second-ever woman on a national ticket, wrote on her Facebook page, about a half-hour after she tweeted about the “sad” passing of Walter Mondale’s running mate.
“When I had the honor of working alongside Geraldine on election night last year, we both discussed the role of women in politics and our excited expectation that someday that final glass ceiling would be shattered by the election of a woman president. She was an amazing woman who dedicated her life to public service as a teacher, prosecutor, Congresswoman, and Vice Presidential candidate. She broke one huge barrier and then went on to break many more. The world will miss her. May she rest in peace and may her example of hard work and dedication to America continue to inspire all women.”
Speaking on Fox News, Palin recalled that she and Ferraro had discussed the possibility of a woman becoming president some day. “We were both excited about that,” Palin said.
Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate in 2008, described herself as “standing on [Ferraro’s] shoulders.”
“She was able to pave the way for others,” Palin said. “We went before. She paved the way.”
Palin also said Ferraro “plowed through so many things that allowed the rest of us to progress,” and that she “embraces the idea of the pioneering spirit the America is all about.”
“We disagreed on some aspects of our politics,” she added, “but certainly agreed on the rights women have.”
The former Alaska governor also credited Ferraro for her work with cancer victims. “She was always out there trying to help others,” Palin said.

Sarah Palin Voted Ultimate Fantasy Cougar in Survey of Younger Men

Sarah Palin Voted Ultimate Fantasy Cougar in Survey of Younger Men

    (PRWEB) March 23, 2011
Sarah Palin has been voted the world's most desirable fantasy cougar in a new survey of younger men carried out by dating website Cougared.com
Palin was named the most wanted woman by younger men ahead of Cougar Town TV star Courteney Cox, super-fit Madonna, Sex and the City's Kim Catrall, Hollywood legend Demi Moore and former supermodel Janice Dickenson.
The shock finding was one of several revelations in the first ever 'Cub Report' - a poll which is aimed at understanding the motivations and attitudes of younger men who chase "cougars".
In another interesting finding, men on Cougared.com stated that they would prefer to make an indecent proposal to Demi Moore rather than rising Hollywood star Megan Fox or pop singer Katy Perry.
The full Cougared.com Cub Report is online at: www.cougared.com/report
More headline findings from the survey include:

    • 41-45 is the optimum age range for cougars: the Cougar Town casting team chose well with Courteney Cox, who took on the role of cougar divorcee Jules Cobb aged 45
    • One in five men asked have had an experience with a friend's mother: Stifler's Mom from American Pie could be an unlikely role model for lots of American women
    • Most guys believe that celebrities and media have an influence: dating older women is no longer such a taboo because of media's coverage of the cougar trend
    • Maturity matters more than Beverly Hills boobs: ignore the cliches of big breasted cougars with sun-baked tans; an older woman's confidence is what men like best
Oliver Jameson, founder of Cougared.com commented: "It was quite a surprise that Sarah Palin was voted above Demi Moore, Kim Catrall, Madonna or Courteney Cox.
"I guess power is clearly a great aphrodisiac - you only have to look at the older men over the years who have attracted beautiful young women due to their status and wealth.
"Perhaps it is the fact that, despite what people think of her, Sarah Palin knows her own mind and that kind of confidence may be what younger men find attractive."
The survey looked at many more aspects of the cougar scene, including dating issues like: who pays for drinks and dinner; what the best venues are for cougar dates and whether a cougar crush is kept secret from friends and family.
Jameson added: "Overall the survey demonstrated that it is not a negative concept to be considered a cougar. I believe it is definitely a positive lifestyle choice."
    Notes to editors:
