Should the BBC make a drama out of the Tsunami

Do you think it is in good taste that the BBC make a drama out of the Tsunami? I have reservations that this event should be turned into a non-fiction made for television story.

A drama based around the aftermath of the catastrophic Asian tsunami in 2004 is one of the highlights of BBC Two's autumn season.

The drama, Tsunami - The Aftermath, is set in Thailand and will star Tim Roth, Toni Collette, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sophie Okonedo and Hugh Bonneville.

Well my first re-action was that it was in bad taste,

but Titanic was a decent film, so it depends on how good a job they do.

Mind you Titanic was a few years ago whereas the tsumani still have a lot of relatives that may be upset by it.

Should be an interesting thing to watch, with Tim Roth in it, it's on my list to get, if it will ever come out as a CD in Thailand.

Why don't they just go ahead and make a reality show based on it and make some more instant "celebrities" to fill their gossip mags up with?

Or a Big Brother type of thing.

They could rebuild the house they have to live in

The Thais will love it - Just look at the way they behave when their's a road accident.

If there are scenes of Thai helping foreigners they'll be calling the British Embassy demanding gongs for the produces.

They might not like it so much if their are scenes of people robbing dead boddies of their jewelery etc.

BBC two controller Roly Keating said it paid tribute to survivors' "courage".

"The 2004 Asian tsunami shocked and devastated the world, touching the lives of people everywhere," he said. [RDN - Oh, yes, thanks for reminding us. We'd forgotten all about that wave thingy.]

"Since then, many questions have been asked and answers have been sought, but what this drama is able to do - through the searing writing talent of Abi Morgan - is to explore the cultural and personal fault lines that can be ruptured when catastrophe strikes.
I have a feeling that a great many people will find something objectionable about this. I would certainly have preferred a documentary rather than a drama, even if it IS written "through the searing writing talent of Abi Morgan" (whoever SHE is) "to explore the cultural and personal fault lines" - Geddit? tsunami > earthquake > fault lines. Wow! This guy is BRILLIANT. You can see why he's been made BBC 2 "Controller". What a , what a dickhead, and what a stupid name: "Roly"!

Your dead right, it is highly objectionable and typical of British and US media's desperate attempts at trying to gain ratings by producing more and more outrageuos programs to tittilate a brain dead population.

They should have just stuck with Catweazle and Kenny Everett, Gilligans Island and F Troop.
