    US Census 2010

Hmmm, just watched the WSJ Review, and Gigot notes that the govt wants to include all "residents" in the US, citizen or legal resident or not. WTF? How many extra seats could some states get from illegal immigrants or foreign students or even long-stay tourists?

    • Federal law protects the personal information you share during the census. With ACORN collecting data? 555555
    • Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to states, to make decisions about what community services to provide, and to distribute $300 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year.

how shocking, FIX noise is inciting fear based on racial differences.

and of course the census should include all residents of the US....you've been bleating repeatedly about the 'illegal aliens' and the burden they put on the health care system....wouldn't it be prudent to know some actual statistics?

and btw jet, what's happening with the census in your country?

    you know.....canada.

    where you live.
    where you were born.

    canada.

Oh yah! ….Now the illegals are gonna want the gov't to know where they are.
Well it's not just the illegals. With the economy the way it is now, we are going to have MILLIONS of more homeless families by 2010 too. Those people will also be hard to keep track of.

Anyway... I think, the govt. just wants to know how many people are in your home, not how many are legal. Funding is determined by how many people are in a given area, legal or not.

I think Jet is alluding to congressional representation. The possibilty of rediscricting based upon population and the political ramifications therof.

^ That and the apportioning of the $. Heard it's $3 tril, not $3 bil. But, as the Senate is two per state, mebbe that evens it out? Still, states like CA that have lots if illegals and as many Dems will get more of everything. Wouldn't be bad if they knew how to govern and spend tax dollars.

To use them to increase the representatlive seats, or for redistricting, it’s not right.
Isn’t the US constitution says something about…“all citizens will be represented”?
Unless they want to amend the constitution to…“all those who are living/still breathing here.”

But again not counting them would be a clear case of ignoring the fact that they are even existed.
So I think…they still should be counted, but it should be a separate count from legal citizens. Beecause they aren't citizens, we don’t need anyone to represent them!

OR they need to start paying taxes and get in line like everyone else…for those goods and services!
Otherwise they should be counted and put on a plane. And for the record, not just the mexicans or latinos, but-ALL.

The count. Does this include the 'legal' colonial posessions as well? Puerto Rico, USVI, American Samoa, Guam, and the Marianas.....

    ^ Think so.
^^ Thought it was citizens, SB, not residents, who could include foreign students, illegal aliens, long-term vacationers.

No Jettie, absolutely not. A Census is about who lives where and when- nothing to do with citizenship. It even includes people who are travelling at the time in question.

^You are right. I have filled out a few census surveys before and they wanted to know who was in the house at that time.

Yep, and he is hamstrung by the leftie-liberal state senate and house. He has tried several programs to cut spending and Congress, backed by the govt unions, won't allow them.

I just sent mine in yesterday and put the Thai girlfriend on it also (as using the place as a seasonal home,…so she’ll be counted)

Here’s some news about how the silly right have shot themselves in the foot, again.

REAPING WHAT ONE SOWS ON THE CENSUS.... Prominent right-wing voices decided last year that the U.S. census was not to be trusted. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said the process could lead to "internment camps." Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) called the census "invasive." Fox News' Glenn Beck's suggested Americans may not be comfortable with "ACORN members" collecting information. Radio host Neal Boortz said some census information is "designed to help the government steal from you in order to pass off your property to the moochers."

No one should be surprised, then, that the spread of right-wing paranoia over the census is having an effect. (via Daily Kos)

Contrary to historical trends, some of the toughest challenges facing the agency responsible for measuring the nation's population are not from counting the traditionally undercounted groups such as African-Americans and Latinos. Instead, a new and growing threat to an accurate national head count is coming from anti-government conservatives who may not fill out their forms to protest against "Big Brother" in Washington.

The Houston Chronicle's report looks specifically at Texas, which is counting on the census to gain additional House seats, electoral votes, and federal funding relating to transportation, agriculture, health, education, and housing
But some anti-government types are shooting themselves in the foot.

The national average on the return rate for census forms is 34%. In much of Texas, the more Republican the area, the lower the return rate. In Briscoe County in the Panhandle, McCain/Palin won nearly 75% of the vote -- and 8% of locals are sending in their census materials. In King County, near Lubbock, McCain/Palin won nearly 93% of the vote -- and only 5% of locals are answering the census.

They apparently have no idea that they're acting against their own interests.
Last July, some very conservative Republican House members urged Bachmann, in particular, to back off the anti-census crusade, calling the efforts "illogical."

It seems at least some parts of the Republican base haven't gotten the message.

Senate AND Congress, Census mandates about how many Representatives in the House a state gets.

The right refusing to participate is just shooting themselves in the foot ( when they aren't shooting other things )

    - liberal states will have more reps , OK.

    America’s changing face

Fascinating article. I'll just cut n paste a few snippets, check out the linky if you're interested:-

    • IN A swift and remarkable shift, African Americans no longer make up the majority of the population here in Washington DC

In the decade since the last census, 27.3 million people were added to the US population, but only 9 per cent of them were non-Hispanic whites. Hispanics account for well over half of the population gain, and one in six Americans – fifty million people – is Hispanic. Asians, meanwhile, led all groups in population growth.

The census reveals an absolute decline in the number of white young people over the first decade of this century, and a somewhat smaller decline in the number of black young people. Hispanic, Asian and multiracial children account for all of the net growth in the nation’s under-eighteen population.

Economic progress, cultural ties and an emerging black middle class have driven greater numbers of younger African Americans to leave for prosperous southern metropolitan areas in states such as Georgia and Texas.

Alongside this movement is a black flight from the inner city to the suburbs

About nine million Americans now describe themselves as multiracial, 25 per cent more than in 2000.

In the years ahead, the real divide may end up being along income levels. The nation’s poverty rate is climbing and one in three minority children live in poverty.

    America

Looks like the stereotypical black ghetto is becoming a thing of the past- metrosexual whitey is moving back downtown.

As of 2011 there are now 11.2 MILLION ILLEGAL Immigrants in the US. Politicians want them for 2 very basic reasons.
    • More Money
    • More votes
It is a win...win situation for them in more than one way.

There are few countries that were created and forged by immigration. But at what point does it become overbearing to the society. There will always be a point where the system is pushed beyond its limitation.
