    Right wing domestic terrorists.

    A bit dramatic, no?

Isn't this exactly the sort of hyperbole most of you decried a year ago? Have you no shame?

Didn't take long to change gears, did it?

Sorry, it didn't show up the first time.

But you have to admit it is clever . . . the poster, not me posting it, of course.

Quite amusing yes and with a grain of truth. It just shows how far back the political and cultural schisms go in the US, and also how far forward the country has progressed... against the wishes of some.

Is it? Why? Seems to perfectly sum it up to me:
Obama target as extremism risks spawning violence

The message was clear. The sign carried by a 51-year-old man last week outside a town hall meeting on healthcare in Hagerstown, Maryland, read "Death to Obama".

Just to emphasise his point, a second message was also scrawled on the cardboard placard. "Death to Obama, Michelle and 2 stupid kids," it stated.
Welcome to the disturbing new face of the radical right in America.

Across the country, extremism is surging, inflamed by conservative talkshow hosts, encouraged by Republican leaders and propagating a series of wild conspiracy theories. Many fear it might end in tragedy.

President Barack Obama has been labelled as a threat to democracy and an anti-white racist by senior presenters on the TV channel Fox News.
Republicans, seizing on the fierce debate over Obama's plans to reform healthcare, have called him a socialist who plans "death panels" for the elderly.
Rumours have circulated that Obama was not born in America and that he plans to ban firearms. Despite having no basis in fact, they have become widely believed.

    ...

Such extremism is becoming a major security issue, prompting fears of an attack on Obama's life or some other incident of domestic terrorism.

"This is a very dangerous situation that can spin off 'lone wolf' individuals who decide now is the time to act against people they see as an enemy," said Chip Berlet, senior analyst at Political Research Associates and author of a book on rightwing extremists...

The watchdog group the Southern Poverty Law Centre has issued a report that warns of rising numbers of potentially violent rightwing militia groups.
The number of hate groups has grown from 602 in 2000 to 926, the organisation found. Its report quoted one senior federal law enforcement official, Bart McEntire, as saying: "This is the most significant growth we've seen in 10 to 12 years. All it's lacking is a spark."

    ...

Republican leaders are trying to scupper Obama's healthcare plans by inflaming myths and lies about the system. Sarah Palin has refused to back away from her comments over "death panels" despite the fact that the part of the healthcare bill she is referring to does not set up such things and was drawn up by a fellow Republican. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley warned his constituents that Obama's plan could "pull the plug on grandma". Former senator Rick Santorum sent out an email warning that Obama was "determined to remake America as a socialist utopia". Oklahoma congressman John Sullivan told supporters that Obama was creating an "enemies list" of those opposed to healthcare.

Fox News presenter Glenn Beck has claimed Obama dislikes white people. "This guy is, I believe, a racist," Beck said. Beck has also discussed allegations that Obama is setting up a network of secret internment camps and joked about poisoning Democratic congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. Rush Limbaugh, whose weekly radio show is listened to by millions of Americans, has compared the Democrats to the Nazi party...

Experts say such rhetoric inflames individuals who might already be planning acts of violence and gives them a sense of legitimacy...
Obama target as extremism risks spawning violence - World - NZ Herald News

You got a suggestion for a more apt/appropriate title?

    Partisan propaganda, Ant.

Plenty of death threats toward every president.

Let me guess why these are different...

    1. He's black
    2. He's your hero

    That about sums it up.

Why do you say that he's my hero? Do you think that somehow takes away any legitmacy of the subject at hand? Odd.

And if you'd bothered to read the article then perhaps you might have an answer to your question as to exactly why this is different. Heck, just the 3rd paragraph ought to be enough.

^ Secret service was stepped up for Obama even when he was campaigning. This is Jan 2008.

The Washington Times reports that the Secret Service has in recent days ramped up the security it provides for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
"The Illinois senator's security now rivals that of President Bush, with a dozen Secret Service agents wearing dark suits and earpieces leading bomb-sniffing dogs through event venues, sweeping all equipment brought by journalists and flanking the candidate as he plunges into crowds of supporters," the paper says.
Obama, a freshman senator, has been under the Secret Service's protection for about a year. Sen. Hillary Clinton receives protection because of her status as a former first lady. She's the only other candidate with taxpayer-financed security.

Maybe, but not to this extent.

Which is the point that you seem to be at pains to miss.

Looks more like infotainment to me, hardly worth basing an argument on.
One alleged plot that wouldn't get further than a few blocks and the rest is fill in.

Most however, are kept under wraps because the Secret Service fears that revealing details of them would only increase the number of copycat attempts.
Although most threats are not credible, each one has to be investigated meticulously.
Of course it is obvious that threats to the security of POTUS, or indeed any influential figures in the US, are a very realistic possibility. However there is a dearth of information surrounding the president, an air of subterfuge ripe for exploitation by the media and this article is a prime example, reinforcing the validity of fear and predjudice, (something Nationalism dictates and the public have come to demand) and using marketing under the pretext of news to promote a book that sounds like a promo job for the MiB.

    More guns anyone?.

Twelve Carry Guns -- Including Assault Rifle -- Outside Obama Event

About 12 people were carrying guns, including at least one semi-automatic assault rifle, outside a building where President Obama was speaking today.

No one was arrested outside the VFW National Convention in Phoenix, according to the Associated Press, where hundreds of people demonstrated both for and against health care reform. There are no reports that the 12 were part of an organized group.

The man spotted carrying the assault rifle and a pistol, who gave his name only as "Chris", was asked why he was armed. "Because I can do it," he said. "In Arizona, I still have some freedoms." You can watch the video from ArizonaCentral.com (go to about 1:30). He's being interviewed by a man who's also wearing a handgun.

When Clinton was elected, the WH was used as a target practice with automatic weapon by the local right wing terrorists,

then a plane flew in, ala 911, but missed the oval office, it was fucking hilarious, even Clinton was having a laugh

fucking right wingers couldn't even get it right,

Because fear-mongering is the order of the day . . . a well-armed citizenry needs to be able to defend itself from the government forces of evil . . . which consists of the citizenry . . .

Hmm, you're right. There is no need unless you live in Afghanistan or Iraq.
