Maybe so, but to get the truth you need an answer. I reckon I'd talk pretty quick if I were waterboarded, and besides, I'd rather one poor, innocent sap gets a good mouth wash than a thousand innocents being slaughtered.

The question is, if not torture, what else?

Scenario: The CIA have credible intelligence that AQ have a nuclear weapon. CIA have a person in custody who they think MAY know something about it. What do they do? One possible innocent against one million DEFINITE innocents. So what do they do? What would YOU do? Ask the chap really nicely and offer to be his bestest friend? Or torture the fuck out of him to see what he knows.

I know what I'd do. This is war, gentlemen. It's high time people woke up to this, no matter how uncomfortable.

I didn't defend, nor condone the act. I simply stated why they did it. Because they can - simple point that seems to have escaped most.

Doesn't make the act right or wrong in and of itself, simply indicates one of the reasons they do it. If they didn't think they could have gotten away with it they would not have tried, or at least they would have tried to keep what they did do more limited and more undercover.

The sentence does mean something. And depending on the situation it might or might not be self-evident. In the case of torture I don't think it is quite so self-evident.

Is it good enough? Depends on how deep into the issue one wants to go, and what really they are looking to find out.
