If Obama doesn't comment on it, and Gibbs tells the press he still doesn't know what's going on with this group, it's a clear sign they are ignoring the people. If Gibbs laughs about them, look out Obama. The ranks of these folks will swell and the GOP will get a free ride from them. Time to get a real leader in place.

But yesterday, someone told a real whopper. ABC News, citing the DC fire department, reported that between 60,000 and 70,000 people had attended the tea party rally at the Capitol. By the time this figure reached Michelle Malkin, however, it had been blown up to 2,000,000. There is a big difference, obviously, between 70,000 and 2,000,000. That's not a twofold or threefold exaggeration -- it's roughly a thirtyfold exaggeration.

The way this false estimate came into being is relatively simple: Matt Kibbe, the president of FreedomWorks, lied, claiming that ABC News had reported numbers of between 1.0 and 1.5 million when they never did anything of the sort. A few tweets later, the numbers had been exaggerated still further to 2 million. Kibbe wasn't "in error", as Malkin gently puts it. He lied. He did the equivalent of telling people that his penis is 53 inches long.

    link: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/09/size-matters-so-do-lies.html</SPAN>

And something else happened at the rally,……………..

Billionaires for Wealthcare thank teabaggers for their support

We set up our post on an elevated curb along Pennsylvania Avenue, proudly surveying the throngs we'd funded. The crowds mainly greeted us with cheers for the status quo. A few seemed confused; they were clearly in awe to be face-to-face with those who profit from their most manipulated fears.
As they passed we waved them on and serenaded them with our songs.
From our perch, your trusty billionaires we thanked our hardworking teabaggers, rallying the crowd with rousing chants like “Money is freedom!”, “Freedom Works – FOR US!, “You Protest – We Profit!” and the big crowd favorite, “Bring Back Bush!!!”

    Snip

From there we decamped and headed into the crowds toward the Capitol to mingle with those working so hard to ensure our right to raise rates and deny claims.

^ Beg to differ. I heard the rally speeches and they were asking folks to text a number so they could get an approximation of the number of folks. The 2 mil number was put out by the NYT and picked up overseas, like I posted with link by the Daily Mail in the UK (oh, mebbe they got the number from Malkin?).
The point is, it was a good rally, lots of speakers and topics, there were tens of thousands of folks there, few probs, no vandalism, no garbage, and they paid their own way there. They want to be heard, and if the govt ignores or belittles their voice, the govt will pay.

Embarrassing, yes. Watch the reaction of some of these people towards the end of the video,…….their responses, their concerns, their disbelief when this young man informs them of the truth.

The best question to the young man behind the video,……….(at 7:59) when the older gentleman asks the kid “You know this how?”

I have seen nothing about the latest march on DC, 1.7 million and abc, cbs, nbc, cnn has a word about it, but when Louie Farakhan had his million man march sometime back and 10k niggers showed up it was more coverage than Pearl Harbor 7-12-41

Why wasn't the size of this rally reported on the National News????

Be sure to read the photographer's comments also.

No doubt this will not be NEWS to those of you who watch ABC, CBS, and NBC . . .

After Japan's sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, Adm. Yamamoto may or may not have said,

"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."
. . . but the Left-leaning would do well to ponder those words and listen to the hard-working, tax-paying American people!

This is the first great conservative anti-statist manifestation in American history. The conservative movement, which developed in the post-WWII, Cold War environment has now fully matured into the most significant political movement of the 21st century. I believe that this day could be referred to in the not too distant future as the day that changed America. This was the day the great silent conservative majority finally found its voice.

Many of the attendees were quite meek and timid and were unsure of exactly what to expect, this being the first time in their lives they’d been involved in a protest movement. Their fears evaporated early in the day and I saw people reveling in the camaraderie , the joy and sheer civility that was exhibited at the entire event. Chants of β€œFreedom, freedom, freedomβ€, β€œNo more czars! No more czars!β€ carried through the air without the slightest hint of rancor or incivility which is the norm at the leftist rallies I have photographed over the years.

The two photos above show a tiny fraction of the two million ABC estimates attended. I saw signs and heard lots of comments comparing this event to Woodstock. At the time this photo was taken, around 1:00 p.m., Pennsylvania Avenue was still jammed completely, and the mall was packed from the Capitol Building past the Washington Monument. See aerial photos here.

Protesters came from every state in the union. This man came from San Antonio, TX. He said that he was really sorry he hadn’t brought his family. He stated that being a black conservative he was afraid to expose his children to what he expected would be a lot of liberal abuse. He was thrilled with the tenor of the event and the fact that no liberals were present to harass him. He spoke about how incredibly intolerant the left is to black individuals who don’t bow to the party line.

These Ohioans took a day off their rodeo bullriding schedule. They said they’ll be back at it tomorrow.

Mike Pence (R-Indiana) was one of the speakers who addressed the crowd: β€œAfter years of fighting runaway government on this hill, you people look like the cavalry to me..I believe we are on the verge of a great American awakening.β€

San Diego radio host Mason Weaver said from the podium: β€œI came here because I thought you might want to hear a black man speak without a teleprompter…This government is trying to make a nation of dependent people. Americans have always been independent people…This is not a Republican thing, it’s not a Democrat thing. It’s not a black thing or a white thing. It’s an American thing…We the people are telling them β€˜No more! We’ve had enough!β€

In the very center of the photo, above the Silence is Consent – Can You Hear Us Now sign, you can see Pennsylvania Ave., which at this time is totally blocked with protesters who cannot move forward to the Capitol area. Sorry, full up.

There were notable differences though, in the behavior of these attendees. Although the legend of Woodstock is that there was a friendly atmosphere of camaraderie, the truth is that most people were there for the drugs, sex and rock and roll. Today in D.C. there was a true kinship amongst these people based on shared values and intellectual understanding of what America is and how its future is imperiled by big radical government.

No one was having sex in the Reflecting Pool let alone the mud, and I saw no one projectile vomiting on the steps of the Capitol. There were no warnings to avoid the bad acid which would send you on a trip to the hospital. Not just a different era, but a different level of civilized behavior and thought. Oh, and by the way, these people didn’t leave tons of garbage behind when they left. Actually they left no trash behind at all.

Nancy Pelosi has accused patriotic tea-partyers of β€œcarrying swastikasβ€ implying that they are Nazi sympathizers. This event was wall to wall hammers and sickles and words like β€œsocialistβ€ β€œcommunistβ€ and β€œMarxistβ€ etc. It continues to fascinate me how long the Democrats will tolerate this without ever commenting on it. Either they like it, or there’s something to it.

and real republicans know these teabaggers are leading their party down the road to another election nightmare in 2010. being an off year election during the worst recession in decades, the minority party should expect to pick up a load of seats....but if things stay the same, it's not going to happen

moderates will never get behind a group of radicals who compare obama to hitler, show up to presidential speeches with loaded guns, etc...

As for elections, it's hard to predict the National Prez in 3 years, of course.

Minority usually gains seats in the mid-term.

Times are different. The economy is NOT getting better. The media reports about "recovery" seem to be based on GDP growth - but there is still high unemployment, foreclosures, and a lack of confidence and security. The latter, are very powerful in keeping people, even employed, from spending in a consumer based economy.

There references to Communism and Nazism and Hitler are over-the-top, and no they are not helpful to the GOP, IMO.

    I cannot prove it.

BO's poll numbers are down. No surprise. But will people think the GOP will change and undo what they've done, policy-wise during the last 8 years.

IMO the vast majority are going to stay home.

true moderates are not going to come out and support this radio talk show host/teabagging lunacy. this stuff only appeals to rabid partisans of limited intellect.

moderates also know obama inherited this economic mess, and they will want to give him a legitimate chance to right the ship.

2012 is a different matter altogether.....depending on who the repubs put up, we might see a big turnout.

Quite so, highest unemployment in over 26 years and getting worse daily, this is not a problem that can be solved by throwing money away, here domestically or foreign.
Obama was hired for the job when people knew he had no experience and were hiring an empty suit, but who ever put him up to this and fronted the money to make sure he was elected has an agenda and it is being followed to the letter,,

Meanwhile, it looks like the recession is over and the US economy is in it's second consecutive quarter of growth. The workers always get the benefit (job growth) last BG, there is nothing unique to this recession about that. But we should be seeing some job growth emerging by 1Q next year- Obama certainly hopes so!

The August retail numbers were surprisingly better than expected. There is a lot of pent-up consumer demand and we may see a strong 4th quarter in the retail sector.

Independent, maybe, Dem, no. They are looking at what's going on with their economy, spending, and focus shift and they don't like it. Yep, the GOP needs to find a strong candidate that is trustworthy, has a strong vision and focuses on priority #1: keeping the country safe. Sorry, Obama has done none of this, and as BG pointed out again, he is just the cardboard cut-out who spouts what his puppet masters tell him. And he's still bladdy well campaigning instead of leading.

Retail sales numbers are always comp to last year. Nobody was surprised by BTS. If there is an increase from 08 to 09 that is good news. Back to school sales were in the plan and retailers performed well v. plan. There can be no negative interpretation of that.

I find this article interesting, and I'm not surprised that the movement as been hijacked or, taken over. It's too bad this has happened.
Tea Party Co-Founder: Concept Has Been Hijacked By False Left/Right Paradigm

Posted: November 30th, 2009 by Militant Libertarian
    by Steve Watson

The co-founder of the modern day Tea Party political protests has slammed imitators of the concept, referring to them as “partisan political perverts”.

Constitutionalist grass roots activist Chad Peace was part of the original team of people who organised Boston Tea Party re-enactment protests in 50 different cities in late 2007, in support of Congressman Ron Paul’s presidential campaign.
The protests became extremely popular, and continued throughout 2008 and into 2009, prompting thousands of people to engage in peaceful political protest.

Tea Party protests earlier this year prompted the FBI to initiate a comprehensive surveillance program, and in some cases the National Guard was even readied as a response.

Chad Peace says he was proud to be a part of a movement calling for government accountability, honesty, respect, and sincerity, but he now reveals his disgust at what he sees as a hijacking of the Tea Party concept by “golden idols”.
“I was convinced that the average American was beginning to see through the veil of scripted partisan sermons, designed to coddle fears and perpetuate the superficial battle between a “left” and “right”.” Peace writes in a commentary article.
However, Peace states that over the course of the last year, the Tea Party movement has been co-opted.

“In short time, desperate partisans Their soiling the sheets.” Peace writes.
“At some point, reality began piercing my passion. The tea party boat started becoming a wagon of whiners. Propelled by the moving mouths on TV and the talking heads of such ironically named organizations such as the “American Family Association”… the movement lost its focus.” he continues.
“A movement founded on the principles of independent analysis, it has become a yelling fest for punch-drunk cynics armed with incoherent talking points.”

Revelations of staged Tea Party protests organised by Fox News and Glenn Beck have served to frame the concept within a strictly mainline conservative political focus. Not only that but they have provided the left leaning media mouthpieces with ammunition to attack and ridicule what started out as a legitimate grassroots activist success story.

The common conception of the Tea Party protest now languishes a far cry from it’s Libertarian begininngs.

“What I see is a bunch of people reciting partisan political sermons, coddling fears, and perpetuating a superficial battle between “left” and “right”; drowning the well intentioned idealists that remain.” Chad Peace writes.

However, Peace does believe that the movement can be taken back and still act as a force for political change.

“As the battle rages, I have more faith than ever that an independent revolution will come. When the absurdity of our political process rises to the point where tea bags become a right wing rally cry and the left still manages to drop in the polls, there is a growing opportunity for the increasingly disenchanted to drive a stake right down the middle.”
