The terms of the Annenberg Challenge were that the Annenberg funds were to be matched by public donations and government money- in fact the total amount distributed was around $160mm. So if we take the $230K disributed to 'Controversial organisations' as per booners post, that is less than 1.5%.

Walter Annenberg was a great man and a great philanphropist. I suppose right wing bloggers will amplify everything they can to try and discredit Obama, the rest of us will look at it, shrug and say so what. But I think that trashing his legacy in this way in a vain attempt to get at Obama is highly distasteful.

Indeed he was. He died many years ago but his wife who is currently in very bad health still runs the organization. Not likely she will be around much longer.

One note of interest. Annenberg's father as with Joe Kennedy made their riches doing business with "questionable" characters and business activities.
