    Convention Info - Both Parties

    2008 Democratic National Convention
    August 25-28, Denver, CO

Well we are less than a week away from the 2008 Democratic National Convention. For those with some blue in their blood these will be some exciting days. For the first time in the history of the United States a black man will be the nominee of a major political party. On the fourth and final night the convention will move to INVESCO Fiel at Mile High where Sen. Obama will accept the Democratic Party nomination for President of the United States in front of an audience of 75,000. This date also marks the 45th anniversay of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. There will be plenty of other good speeches along the way, including from the mysterious Vice President nominee. i don't have the detailed info that MM has, but i do know that the repubs have bush and cheney on the first night of their convention....they're trying to slip them in under the radar on labor day.

cheney is leaving town immediately afterwards....can't have any photos of him with the mccain, that's for sure.

and by the way, the repub convention is in minneapolis.....i wonder how many delegates will stop by larry craig's favorite stall in the men's room at the airport.

Just watched Kennedy at the DNC. I don't know if it's just me, but conventions just make me want to vomit. All that backslapping bonhomie in public, and backstabbing behind the scenes.

Would you buy a used car from any of these guys????

The GOP program as of today. They have the advantage of changing to respond to tactics as dictated by points made at Dem Convention.

"Love of country, my friends, is another way of saying love of your fellow countryman."
    --Sen. John McCain

John McCain’s commitment to his fellow Americans, a commitment forged in service to his country, is one of the defining hallmarks of his life. Monday’s events will highlight John McCain’s record of service and sacrifice and reflect his commitment to serving a cause greater than one’s own self-interest.

A restless reformer who has dedicated his career to taking on special interests and the status quo, John McCain will deliver the right kind of change and reform to meet the great challenges of our time. The day will conclude with an address by the vice presidential nominee.

Pretty creepy especially when accompanied by the Phantom of the Opera smile. Guess it's better than Johnson's "my fellow merkins".

Obama is hung up on his "yes we can" pitch as well. Sounds like a cho cho train.

Election fatigue kicked in on this one a long time ago. The way I see it we have Mr. WetBehindTheEars running against Mr.PrematurelySenile.

I suggest we just toss a coin for it. Much cheaper all round.

so with the hurricane moving in on the gulf coast, the GOP is thinking about postponing its convention...which is being held over a thousand miles away in minneapolis.
the rationale, of course, is that the GOP and mccain don't want to be seen having a good ol' time while voters in a swing state are enduring a effects of a natural disaster---cynical and calculating yes, but also a highly practical decision considering that he's in the heat of a campaign which ends in over 60 days.....but why exactly does mccain have to go to the gulf with his wife and gimmick? what exactly are the going to accomplish there?
won't he just be in the way? won't the efforts by the rescue personnel be hampered by the media and security details?

    country first?
    hardly.
    with mccain, it's campaign first.
