Every 12 minutes, not bad. They nailed Laos every 8 minutes for nine years. They weren't at war with Laos either.

Nice to own the company that is selling an expensive bomb to the USA every 8-12 minutes.

Depending on one's perspective, interpretation, or source - could be solidly argued that they were most certainly engaged in war with Laos and particular Lao factions.
From the late 1950s [technically not until 1962] well into the mid-to-late-1970s.

    Semantics.

^ absolutely. That was kind of tongue in cheek in reference to the US saying they weren't at war here.

I've only recently started researching that era, and they were strange times indeed.

I read that the US has 14,600 or 14,800 nuclear warheads. China has 250-ish. If they want NK to de-nuclearize then why not ditch a few say 14,000 of theirs first to set an example?

That is a Russian news service kind of like radio free America. I don't really think it is accurate.

The Columbia Journalism Review calls RT “The Kremlin’s propaganda outlet.” They also have a pants on fire claim from Politifact

I was sitting in Vietnam getting shot at with bullets and rifles and cannons that came through Laos to Vietnam. It was like every night. Difficult to sleep. At first I was, "OK I'll get used to the noise and getting blown out of my bed." These VC guys set up the rockets in the daytime with a fuse and they went off at night. I'd shoot back at them but there was nobody there. I only had one choice for getting a nights sleep. Stop the rockets coming along the Ho Chi Minh trail in Laos. So I called up my friends at U-Tapao airbase in Thailand and asked , "could you guys stop those rockets coming down the trail that are keeping me awake all night long and blowing me out of my bed?" So they tried. I didn't have anything against the poor folks in Laos or Vietnam I didn't ask to be sent there I was drafted it was that or the Federal Penitentiary.

Here's another new flash to consider. I really don't care that the source may be a Russian News Service. All things considered, regarding a specific historical-base, the article is believable.

Now, I am a New Yorker, and certain people who live in glass houses, should never, ever throw stones ~ vis-'a-vis ~ The Columbia Journalism Review has a few skeletons, hiding in it's own closet, as well, eh?

    Thus, moving progressively along...............cheers!

And again, I say the Federal Penitentiary would have been the safer gambling option. You were lucky, where 60K+ other U.S. citizens were not. Never forget that.

I got killed in the Vietnam war. I just didn't die yet. My cause of death will in all probability be service related. However about this thread I wonder if anyone would not have bombed Laos given all of the supplies that were coming into Vietnam to Kill Americans and Thais and Australians, Koreans, New Zealanders, Filipinos and Brits. Don't you have the right to stop war supplies from entering the field of combat?

It wouldn't be much of a war without bullets, bombs and missiles.

Does everyone realize the Americans didn't bomb Laos just for fun? The Vietnamese who were at war with the Americans invaded Laos and moved supplies down the HCM trail to Vietnam. The Americans were bombing the Vietnamese soldiers. When the Germans invaded Belgium in WWI the Allies attacked Belgium in the same way. Is anyone still crying for Belgium? It is the German's fault as Laos is North Vietnam's fault.

Revised, rewritten and deeply conditioned culturally historic perspectives seem to be the call of the day.......and yesterday.

Just repeated often and loud enough, and all becomes real; true; and factual.

American launched one of the most intensive bombing campaigns the world has ever known against the smallest, poorest and most underdevelopment country in Asia. The excuse that Nixon gave about stopping the VC moving supplies down the HCM trail was a blatant lie. The trail was along the eastern border with Vietnam yet the heaviest bombing was concentrated in the north of the country in the plain of jars area. The true objective was to defeat the Pathet Lao guerillas who had mounted a campaign to overthrow the American friendy and very corrupt Lao government.
Today thousands of peasant farmers, women and kids are still getting killed and maimed by unexploded ordinance.

I'm not having much luck loading photos. You will have to look at the links and decide for yourself. The one link is every bombing mission flown during the war. USA was stopping supplies from flowing South and aiding the Lao government interdicting the Pathet Lao. If you are wondering if I was involved. Yes I was and I knew Tony P but it was only to pick up downed aircraft because that was my job.

Do you want to know the real story? Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam were all in the same boat in 1945. Thailand lost the war and got occupied by the Brits (so much for that story Thailand was never occupied by a foreign power) it was the Brits and Indian army. The Brits wanted to starve Thailand with war reparations of rice for their starving colonies in South East Asia and the French wanted the Jade Buddha. Vietnam was in a famine and the Brits let the French and Japanese out of jail and started a bloodbath. Laos and Cambodia I know less about.

So who came out on top? Thailand won the Vietnam war. They got the Yanks on their side and the Brits didn't get the rice and the French didn't get the Jade Buddha.

The French and Americans had a war in Saigon (see battle of Saigon) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Saigon_(1955). The CIA told the President to get out of Vietnam because it was an untenable situation. The Brits started a war called the Malayan Emergency.

The whole thing was a mess. Check the SEATO treaty. There was supposed to be elections but there wasn't. The Allies had agreed to let go of all of their Colonial possessions at the beginning of WWII but they didn't.

America sided with the French. The Brits sided with themselves and the French lost a whole lot of men and got out of town leaving the Americans to clean up the mess.

Should the Americans have left when the French did and not bombed Laos and started the Vietnam war? Thailand would be just like Laos a 3rd world SH with no infrastructure or trade or wealth. I wouldn't be here because the health care would be like Cambodia.

The only think I can figure is the Vietnam war saved Thailand the rest of the dominoes fell. If Laos and Cambodia and Vietnam had Thai diplomats (or dictators from Singapore) South Easts Asia would look like Singapore and Bangkok today.

When you look at the devastation wrought by the bombing in that link I posted think about the alternative. Killing fields and the Pathet Lao and Khmer Rouge and the millions killed in Vietnam. It could have been completely different if the leaders wanted to have elections instead of dictatorships. Ho has to be the dumbest guy next to Mao and the sparrows in Asia.

Mao killed 45 million in 4 years. Anything that the Americans or French or Hitler or Stalin did is kid stuff in comparison. How's that for a great leap forward? I have brown eyes by the way.
