    Specific to the OP, military personel should be treated same way any civil servant or private company employee is. Benefits such as retirement, health, paid holiday, et al.

    The recent norm of calling all folks in the military "heroes" is a bunch of crap. They are no more heroes than any group of people employed in dangerous work. Especially given only a small percentage are involved in combat.

    Certainly not any voluntary taxes. I quit being a volunteer back in 1989.
    Many taxes are extorted from consumers at the point of sale.

    A good spanking. I suppose I'm a Vet myself (long time ago), but I certainly would not sign up to fight our government's misguided, losing and destructive wars these days. More likely to join a Peace march.
