the democrats won a larger percentage of the popular vote this year than the republicans did in the 'tea party wave' of 2010 when they won 63 seats.

    how is that possible?

    gerrymandering.

fortunately the dems won the races for governor is several more states....and the courts have finally started to weigh in on gerrymandering being unconstitutional.

Wow. Woke up this morning to a toss up Abrams/Kemp. Too close to call and she isn’t conceding. Lots of ballots not counted.

    Go Stacey!

But, that jerk Kemp is overseeing the election. How third world is that?

so, what do the results mean?

    1. trump still has the senate to confirm the judges he appoints. besides the business tax cuts and deregulation to put the economy in a higher gear than in the obama recovery, confirming conservative judges is the biggest accomplishment for trump in the eyes of conservative voters.

    2. trump will try to work with the dems on an infrastructure deal like he already did on the opioid bill.

    3. try again on an immigration bill that solves the problems always in the way of a solution: make sure the border is controlled before giving amnesty to the illegals already in america. trump will try the "art of the deal" again now that he has more senators who are trump supporters on his side. the dems have historically always been for enforcing the border, too; so, a deal is possible, IMO.

    4. pelosi is politically smart and will try to keep the eyes on 2020 and not overplay their hand in investigating trump. if they overplay their hand, the house will go back to the republicans and trump will have an easy time defeating a dem in 2020.

the dems overplaying their hand in the kavanaugh hearings is obviously what led to the republicans getting a well needed boost in energy from the base to get out and vote. the dems might have taken the senate, if it weren't for that major mistake, IMO.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...y_Donald_Trump

As of November 4, 2018, the United States Senate has confirmed 84 Article III judges nominated by President Trump, including 2 Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, 29 judges for the United States Courts of Appeals, 53 judges for the United States District Courts, and 0 judges for the United States Court of International Trade

He will have to now if he wants anything done. The days of nice easy passing of his bills are over.

The notion that Dems want open borders is just not true in spite of what Trump would have his followers believe. The issue surrounding the Dream Act can easily be resolved. Trump simply has to let DACA remain the law of the land.

Healthcare and it's costs are no 1 concern of voters, even his base. He better work with Dems to undo the damage he did when he ended Obama care rather than fixing the few bits that needed fixing.

Failure to work with the Dems on any issue and he will be in for 2 years of misery.

Abrams, Kemp await more ballots in Georgia governor’s race

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia’s hotly contested and potentially historic governor’s race may not be over yet, with Democrat Stacey Abrams and Republican Brian Kemp awaiting the final accounting of absentee and provisional ballots.

With reported votes approaching 3.8 million, Kemp was just shy of 51 percent, but Abrams and her campaign said there were enough ballots outstanding, particularly absentee ballots in heavily Democratic metro Atlanta counties, to bring the Republican below the majority threshold required for victory.

Kemp is the one in charge of counting the ballots. What could go wrong?

    That is too fucking funny.

If the election for the governor of Wisconsin goes to a recount — a prospect raised by supporters of Gov. Scott Walker who lost to Tony Evers by more than 30,000 votes —the rules will be different than the last time a recount was held.
That's because Walker and the Republican-led state Legislatures tightened the state's recount law last year.
The new state law says that a candidate who loses by 1 percent or less can demand a recount.

Why I'm happy with the result ...

Dow Jones surges 491 points after US midterm elections

It was a result financial markets had expected — with Democrats taking the House of Representatives and Republicans still retaining their Senate majority.

The benchmark S&P 500 added 1.9 per cent to 2,808.

Meanwhile, the Dow Jones index shot up 491 points, or 1.9 per cent, to 26,126.

Dead brothel owner Dennis Hof wins Nevada race for Republicans

Nevada brothel owner Dennis Hof died on October 16 after his 72nd birthday party

A brothel-owning, evangelical Christian-backed Republican candidate who died last month has been elected to the Nevada state legislature.

    Key points:
    • Under Nevada law, Dennis Hof remained on the ballot even after he died
    • He still attracted 68 per cent of the vote, beating Democrat candidate Lesia Romanov
    • Election officials will appoint a candidate from the same party to replace Mr Hof

Dennis Hof, 72, defeated female Democratic candidate and educator Lesia Romanov in the race for Nevada's 36th Assembly District, earning about 68 per cent of the vote.

County officials said they would appoint a replacement candidate from the same party for his seat.

Kemp should have disqualified himself from overseeing the election process as a gubernatorial candidate. He put 350,000 votes in limbo due to technicalities he invented. Abrams is right to demand every vote be counted.

I voted absentee in Gwinnett County. 10% of absentee applications were rejected there because of slight variations in signatures. There was a clear effort to supress voting throughout the state by party loyal local officials.

When I finally got my ballot I found it my Outlook junk mail inbox so I did not find it immediately causing a delay for my ballot to be sent back. The whole system of absentee voting was unnecessarily complicated.

Abram's stand says nothing about 'seppo' women (must have been difficult not to write 'black women') but a lot about the rigged election system put in place by Kemp.

All is well and good. After seven plus years of the repubs barkin', squealin', moanin' and cryin' a river about the "Satanic Evils" of Obamacare - well, they did it, parleyed their whining into owning all three legs of the stool, and, when the "new" 2017 POTUS took office, in his own words (well not a direct quote but close) he said he expected the repubs to have the repeal bill and replacement plan on his desk on day one, turns out, for all their caterwauling they were not only unprepared, but, apparently the "task" was and is beyond their capabilities.

However, my personal belief is that the most US politicians (on both sides of the fence) support action on the "problematic" state of the USA healthcare system. Since they do NOT have a "replacement" solution, well, Obamacare will remain.

Unfortunately, Obamacare does not address the real problem of healthcare costs - "Greed", in all its glory, the pursuit of the almighty dollar and corporate profits. Really, what could be better, they are holding your life hostage, pay or DIE, simple as that. And, God forbid you are terminal, hospitalized and cashed up, they are experts at keeping you alive until your bank account is empty, then, and only then, can you "Die".

The USA needs to as most other countries have done one way or another, semantics and definitions thrown out, is to expand Medicare into an all inclusive USA medical system that includes everybody - period. Capitalistic America will resist this "kicking and screaming", doesn't matter, 'tis the only way - capitalistic profit-taking prevents any other system from working.

Anyway, Obamacare will slowly evolve into this.

This should be in the "Only In America" file. It defies logic, morals, and what democracy is about.
Let me guess: The said law was devised by a Republican state government. It's an altrnative to gerrymandering; If you have a popular candidate, let him be elected even when dead and simply replace him with a non-elected person from your party, a person who may not have won the ballot if he/she had stood.

That one bit there says so much about just how screwed up US politics in general and the GOP specifically are currently.

    Exactly. The hypocrisy is breathtaking.

Anything and anyone as long as it supports their narrow-minded bigotry.
