Bishop says God is not Christian.

This guy is very interesting, even to me, an atheist. This particular clip is praiseworthy.

    My thoughts on the Bishop's thoughts;
1.This idea about heaven and hell being a human construct used to control the masses I agree with, but I also think it's a construct to help guide the masses into doing what's right: Don't murder, don't steal etc. Society would be better off if nobody did the last 5 of the ten Commandments. The first 5 are all about the church controlling the people.
Buddhism, although strictly a philosophy and not a theistic religion does the same with the concept of karma. There's room to talk about the Thai flavour of Buddhism too, with it's being run like a business and a conduit for respect from the masses for the ordained. Tamboon to get rewarded next life!
    2. That God is not a Christian is basically the same as what pious Muslims preach; He is the same god.
    3. The church doesn't like the people to grow up. That's certainly true for Thai Buddhism (and perhaps why those elite families always insist on keeping the "religion" at the top of priorities).
    4. I like his take on Jesus not being your personal saviour but a guide to reach your full (good) potential. If you're going to believe in Jesus, that would be the attitude to take. "Enhancing your humanity" Nice.
    5. Obviously a deeply spiritual person, I can imagine he'd have done good works also if he had been born Muslim, Buddhist, or Wiccan (or whatever)

Once there was a gentile who came before Shammai, and said to him: "Convert me on the condition that you teach me the whole Torah while I stand on one foot. Shammai pushed him aside with the measuring stick he was holding. The same fellow came before Hillel, and Hillel converted him, saying: That which is despicable to you, do not do to your fellow, this is the whole Torah, and the rest is commentary, go and learn it." - Babylonian Talmud, Shabbat 31a
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

When humanity grows up it'll be seen as a psychosis where people listened to voices from the sky and ancient books designed to divide and rule.

Oddly these people want modern science when they have toothache or need a stent

If there was a God, I doubt he would be Christian.

Expect more of that in the coming years as the Catholics make their expected turn to universalism and one world religion.

So why do Israelis do as they do to Palestinians?

Expected? Really? I doubt it. Catholicism is on the wane, or would be if not for a ban on contraception in poor countries and the fact that kids are raised with it.

Everyone is bashing the bishop in this thread. I will stick to bashing my own bishop. I think there are limits to this 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you' thing. I do not need any help with castigating my cardinal!

Shelby Spomg is an interesting guy actually. I read his 'Jesus for the Non-religious' when it was published in 2007.

I am sure it is on the wane. That would be the reason for a shift to a meaningless, truth is what you want it be, type of humanism that will be very popular to the masses.
It is pretty clear that this is what this guy is doing.

Forgive my denseness, but it's not clear to me. Please expand and elaborate.

Like all religions they prefer to practice this. Do unto others before they do unto you.

I wonder if the reputedly God-believing Voltaire was actually making a statement here to the effect that God is a creation of human minds. I suspect so, but politics at the time hindered him being so forthright.

Somewhat but he hardly held back.
In one of his many denunciations of priests of every religious sect, Voltaire describes them as those who "rise from an incestuous bed, manufacture a hundred versions of God, then eat and drink God, then piss and shit God."
