    PM defeated over Brexit strategy

Prime Minister Theresa May has suffered a fresh defeat in a Commons vote on her Brexit strategy by 303 to 258.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has called on the prime minister - who did not take part in the debate - to "admit her Brexit strategy has failed".

Tory Brexiteer rebels abstained, saying the government's motion implied a no-deal Brexit would be ruled out. Ministers said that was not the case but defeat would make life more difficult for the PM in EU talks.

Mrs May has promised MPs a final, decisive vote on her Brexit deal with the EU when she has secured the changes to it she believes MPs want to see.

A Labour amendment calling for that final, meaningful vote to be held before 27 February was earlier defeated by 16 votes.

An SNP amendment, which was also backed by the Liberal Democrats, calling for Britain's departure from the EU on 29 March to be delayed by three months, was defeated by 93 votes to 315, after most Labour MPs abstained. Commenting on Mrs May's latest defeat, Jeremy Corbyn said: "Two weeks ago, the prime minister told Parliament that her new approach could 'secure a substantial and sustainable majority' in Parliament. "However, tonight's vote has proved that there is no majority for the prime minister's course of action. "This can't go on. The government can't keep ignoring Parliament or ploughing on towards 29 March without a coherent plan."

He added that the PM needed to admit her strategy had failed "and come back with a proposal that can truly command majority support in Parliament".

Downing Street had earlier warned that a defeat in Thursday's vote could damage the prime minister's negotiating position, as she seeks to make changes to the controversial backstop "insurance policy" in her deal to avoid customs checks between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Mrs May believes she can secure a Commons majority for the deal if she can get legally-binding changes to the backstop clause - something the EU has consistently ruled out.

Labour has accused her of "running down the clock" so that MPs will be faced with a last-minute choice between her deal and no-deal.

The defeat is Mrs May's tenth in a Commons vote since becoming PM.

Another Tory split causing another defeat for the Maybot.

when will she understand that NO means NO? There will be no renegotiation by the EU.

    What happens next?

    To me, Brexit is easy.
    Nigel Farage (20 September 2016)

The day after we vote to leave we hold all the cards and we can choose the path we want.
    Michael Gove (9 April 2016)

The free trade agreement that we will have to do with the European Union should be one of the easiest in human history.
    Liam Fox (20 July 2017)

Getting out of the EU can be quick and easy – the UK holds most of the cards in any negotiation.
    John Redwood (17 July 2016)

There will continue to be free trade, and access to the single market.
    Boris Johnson (26 June 2016)

    The meaningless vote loses.

Bercow condescends to amendments from Labour and SNP. Both failed.

Meanwhile, Trump is obliged to back pedal on the back of poor retail figures. He is extending the China tariff deadline, and he will be forced to accept a worse budget deal than he could have taken last time around.

Gotta feel for those hard hit pensioners in Thailand, who are dependent on sterling transfers for their income stream.

Having taken a drive to Blackpool last summer I can safely say the place is a shithole and has nothing going for it. Plenty of nice places to go for a holiday or day out in the UK but Blackpool isn't one of them.

Good memories of Bridlington and Skegness as a kid, but there is no sense in living in the past- Europe has far nicer beaches with better food, climate and at the risk of sounding like a snob, clientele. I can escape the hooray Henrys south and loutish Hens and Stags

The markets were mapped out a year ago. If there is no deal and WTO trauma is the 1/4/19 wake up call for the Brit retards then we are looking at $1.10 and 34 baht for sure.
If the Tory monkeys concentrate their brains and support May then it'll be back to 44baht.

No one likes Britain in no-deal territory except perverts, cretins and morons.

So now you are a fan of ‘the sclerotic witch May’ and her battered WA? A few pennies more for you and your are anybody’s. What a craven slut you are, despite all your colourful language, you are just a money grubbing pimp.

The WA is acceptable, only as a means to escape the EU and it’s appalling future. A hard Brexit now might be painful in the short term, but at least it removes the uncertainty that is weighing markets and business now. It is also route one out of the monstrous cesspit that the EU will become for MS after the full impact of Lisbon kicks in.

The WA as it stands isn't escaping the EU and it's clutches, that is the problem.

Yes because £/baht trading is what gets traders excited.
