The maybot has spoken but without any real vision for Brexit....except to keep the status quo ...possibly until the brexiteers have either forgotten about it or died off.
The vison is rather quite simple and been explained many times and I still struggle to see why you fail to understand it. We are leaving the EU, the EU will go its way with more federalism and we are going our own way. We will continue to pay our share of the EU budget until the current 7 year term ends something I thought you'd be happy with even though we aren't legally obliged to do so and i'd rather we just told them to take a jump.

The way I'm reading it, the UK through it's previous representations, has committed to it's (read EU) contribution to the current budget period ( through to 2020). Nothing wrong with that, and in truth, nothing less than the UK Government has always been saying about honouring it's commitments. Important to remember that as well as a gross contributor, the UK is still a recipient of the EU's budget spend (regional development blah blah blah). So, to be expected that the UK will continue to receive these funds during the transition period.

Reciprocally, the UK is saying is that for the period 2019/20 or so, as we've funded up our 'obligation', we should expect a reciprocal interim deal on trade etc. Wrong? Maybe. However, as May's speech, whilst not completely homing in on the subject, will be of more interest to EU nationals in the UK for sure. I knew that that there were circa 1,000,000 Poles in the UK, but 600,000 Italians? No idea. Nothing wrong with that (qualify: working, taxes etc etc).

I don't know what the percentage of EU financial migrants per country actually is (though in the UK it appears to be fairly high), but dear oh dear, comparing the typical retiring UK expats to France, Spain, and Italy, does it really compare? How many of UK migrants currently in the EU take advantage of their host country for welfare benefits? I wager very few, and certainly not on the scale of those EU migrants in the UK.

A good speech is one where everyone hears what they want to hear.

The maybot managed to upset every party by telling them something they didn't want to hear. That is, she managed to upset remainers, brexiteers and the EU all at the same time and possibly in equal measure. Tha's quite a feat.

Meanwhile it looks like the UK will be in the EU for a couple of years after Brexit....

Britain joined what was the EEC in 1973. It was always unrealistic to expect it to take only two years to extricate the country from the tentacles that have been wrapped around it in the last forty four.

I rather think it is the Brussels lot that are finding it hard to believe that anyone would want to leave their EUtopia. And I certainly have nothing to lose

Another week of negotiations over and another set of concessions from the UK. Has PM May finally realised that the UK needs the EU more than the EU needs the UK?

Boris is challenging May more and more. If Brexit is going to happen then there needs to be a change of leadership. With the baffoon at the helm anything could happen but it wouldn't be good for the UK.

Brexit is getting softer by the month....

    Why?

We have a trade deficit of GBP71 Billion, it strikes me that they need us more than we need them.

    They'll play nice.

We'll give them a few billion to support their pathetic euro and then they can fuck off and beg.

The EU will suffer more job losses than the UK should we end up reverting to WTO rules although that probably won't bother Juncker and Barnier as they've been shitting on their own subjects for years. But Merkel will realise it and common sense will prevail.

Oh dear. I hope your job doesn't involve arithmetic. You have a deficit in trade in goods, a minor part of the economy. You also, however, have a massive surplus in services, all of which will be gone soon. I wonder if you can work out what that means.

Of course, all of this will be irrelevant once the £350 million per day lost to the EU is put back into the economy and the massive trade boom promised immediately after the referendum finally appears

Stop talking out of your arse Bob.

    • The UK had an overall trade deficit of £71 billion with the EU in 2016. A surplus of £24 billion on trade in services was outweighed by a deficit of £96 billion on trade in goods.

    • Services accounted for 40% of the UK’s exports to the EU in 2016.

You think the EU wants to stop selling us a net 100 billion of goods?

Obviously the EU politicians who are accountable to no one don't care but I have a funny feeling politicians in individual countries will care as it's their constituents who will suffer the job losses if the Junker and Barnier carry on their current course. We need to just walk away and turn off the money tap.

More bad news for those who cant accept democracy.

    Foreign investors back Brexit Britain

£23.2bn was invested in Britain from foreign companies in the 3 months leading up to June – that’s £7.2bn more than expected.

Household income is also booming – it rose 1.6%, the highest in 2 years.

Ooh! It looks like some of these uppity newcomers are not quite so happy with Junckers vision of more integration and more countries encouraged to accept the Euro as their currency.

Merkel now needs something to throw to the far right and overlordship has always proved popular in the past.

From here on it will be not so much Deutschland in the EU, as the EU in DEUtschland. Buggerfly will come to regret his joy at the UK's departure. Not tomorrow of course and not next year but not too far off either.
