    USA: Louisiana, Prisons of shame

Louisiana holds the world record for rate of incarceration – 10 times higher than in Germany, and three times higher than Iran. This unenviable record is due to a particularity of the southern state: in Louisiana, the majority of prisons are privatized and run by sheriffs. They earn $24 per prisoner, per day, so if the number of inmates falls, the revenue goes down with it. These “parish prisons,” as they are known, are engaged in a race to snap up prisoners, who are now seen as business opportunities.
Conditions in these jails are deplorable: up to 1,500 inmates are crammed into dormitories designed for 200 people. There are fewer and fewer staff, as networks of cameras allow a single guard to monitor the behavior of large numbers of prisoners for even greater profitability.

Due to copyright restrictions, this video can only be viewed on RT’s live feed. Time of broadcast is available on RT’s schedule page.

This time not on RT but on Al-Jazeera:

    Killing the Count
The story of Count Folke Bernadotte of Sweden and how he rescued concentration camp inmates from Germany during WWII.

Al Jazeera’s two-part documentary Killing the Count examines the eventful life of Count Folke Bernadotte, head of the Swedish Red Cross and a leading figure in the rescue of thousands of concentration camp prisoners in World War II.

Count Folke was appointed as UN Mediator in the first Arab-Israeli war, shortly before he was assassinated by Zionist extremists in 1948.

In part one of Killing the Count , we explore the story of Count Folke Bernadotte’s efforts during World War II to help prisoners in Nazi concentration camps.

Bernadotte negotiated the release of more than 30,000 prisoners, one third of them Jews, from German concentration camps, in an extraordinary humanitarian effort which would come to be known as the 'White Buses campaign'.

In part two, we look at the appointment of the Count, three years later, as the United Nation's first mediator in the Arab-Israeli conflict, and his assassination four months later in September 1948 by Zionist extremists during an official visit to Jerusalem.

Al Jazeera's documentary offers unique insight into his life and death, including accessing family and film archives never seen before.

Not on RT but French TV5 with E subtitles at 16:30
    Secrets d'histoire - Winston Churchill

Churchill, the soft-hearted lion The youth and career of one of Britain's leading 20th-century politicians: Winston Churchill. Born into a famous British family, Churchill will forever be remembered for his unyielding fight against Nazism, not forgetting his love of literature, which earned him the Nobel Prize. Presented by: Stéphane Bern.

Interesting documentary series using stories and archive footages with accounts of close friends or researchers - surely no boring watching.

The competition to RT , the BBC are broadcasting that RT is a state television network and is controlled by Putin, unlike the BBC that's independant.
They had George Galloway on to represent RT , as he has a show on RT called Sputnik. George claims RT have never told him what to broadcast , because he's independant.

How "independent" BBC is was seen on the case of Dr Kelly - the Iraq dosier - 13 years ago. And all the people involved (incl. the director).
Since that, nobody has any doubts about their "independence" (proven every day) ...

    Just airing on RT:
New Orleans, in the heat of the night

New Orleans, famous for its French quarters and colonial houses, was totally destroyed after Hurricane Katrina. The rebuilding of its black quarters has been neglected and the city lies in ruins. The lack of interest in these areas has caused anger as criminality increases, with one person shot dead every day. The inhabitants are now taking it upon themselves to tackle crime, defending themselves by their own means.https://www.rt.com/on-air/

How comforting to know that the other claimants are not paid (enough)...

You don't really understand the Foreign Agent Registration Act at all, do you?

And I'm sure if you *really* try and keep up, you'll notice Vlad doing the same thing in Russia.

Yes Vlad is doing a tit for tat, all rather silly. There’s no doubt that RT, the BBC and Al Jazera are state broadcasters. They do however do some good unbiased programming when it’s not concerned with their home turf.

RT just showing: The happiest people on Earth
North Koreans say they’re the happiest people in the world. Their great leader is like a father who takes care of them and all their needs. They’re told that he’s made their country the most powerful and economically developed on the planet. A quick look at the World Wide Web or any international media might lead to a different conclusion but in North Korea, they’re banned.

Watch "The happiest people on Earth" on RTD website on RT’s live feed. The time of the broadcast is available on RT’s schedule page.
