Exclusive: Mueller team's focus on Manafort spans 11 years
Read the full article here;Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team is reaching back more than a decade in its investigation of Paul Manafort, a sign of the pressure Mueller is placing on President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman. The FBI's warrant for a July search of Manafort's Alexandria, Virginia, home said the investigation centered on possible crimes committed as far back as January 2006, according to a source briefed on the investigation.
The broad time frame is the latest indication that Mueller's team is going well beyond Russian meddling during the campaign as part of its investigation of Trump campaign associates. Manafort, who has been the subject of an FBI investigation for three years, has emerged as a focal point for Mueller.
The search, an unusually hard-nosed tactic in a probe that centers on possible tax and financial crimes, began before dawn as Manafort and his wife lay in bed, according to sources briefed on the matter.
FBI agents entered with guns drawn and insisted on searching Kathleen Manafort for weapons, a standard part of FBI searches but a jarring event for the Manaforts, the sources said.
Mueller's team has warned Manafort that they are working to charge him with possible tax and financial crimes, the sources said, an indication the investigation could be in an advanced stage.

It's amusing to see the Trumptards trying to retrospectively spin the revelations about Manafort being wire-tapped as vindication of Trump's previous lies on the matter.
They are just pretending like that the back-down from Spicer never occurred and ignoring the fact that Drumpf was very clearly claiming it was he who was being wire-tapped.
But then facts and Drumpftards, never the twain shall meet.
^ Word is that they are pushing hard on Manafort in an effort to isolate him and force him to flip. So it is a major turn no doubt.
No shit:
Paul Manafort, the former chairman of Donald Trump's presidential campaign, has been told by federal prosecutors that they plan to indict him, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
the NYT article reports that the wiretap on manafort was active in january and recorded calls with trump.
when the indictment comes down, we can absolutely expect trump to refer to his campaign manager as "mr. manafort" who was "only on the campaign for a short time" and that he "doesn't really know him that well".
btw, that search warrant for manafort's house a few weeks ago was unusual. the feds were given permission by a judge to pick the lock on manafort's front door and roust him from sleep. normally a search warrant is produced outside the home/building during regular working hours.
No doubt orange cunto's legal team will be doing their best to distance themselves from Manafort.
However, he strikes me as the type that would record conversations to cover his arse.
what is even more hilarious is that Anti-Trump tards don't find anything wrong with the process of wiretapping the entourage of a presidential candidate, with secret court orders etc...
the even more sad thing is all the fuss about "fake" Russian spies influencing the election, absolutely crazy, and this is the kind of investigation that kills the credibility of state institutions and show to the public how vindictive and personal all those "democratic" institutions can be used against certain people when they say things that the elite doesn't like
really a sad state of affair, and strangely it doesn't even affect Trump, the main target of those investigations
and this is exactly why this whole affair is fishy and smell of shit and will feed conspiracy theories on both sides, when due process are being played with to send silly messages to the other party, you know you have stepped in onto the dark side
exactly like the US did in 2003 with Iraq, got rid of silly Saddam but they didn't win anything at the end, and only got a big liability for it.
In short, losing strategy for losers !!! and GW Bush was certainly a lifetime loser with all his failed projects
You really are out of your depth here and your comments show it.
Due process is being followed. A judge had to sign off on the search warrant. In fact every action Mueller and his team makes is a text book example of due process at work. Nice try buttplug.

Manafort offered to give Russian billionaire ‘private briefings’ on 2016 campaign
Less than two weeks before Donald Trump accepted the Republican presidential nomination, his campaign chairman offered to provide briefings on the race to a Russian billionaire closely aligned with the Kremlin, according to people familiar with the discussions.
Paul Manafort made the offer in an email to an overseas intermediary, asking that a message be sent to Oleg Deripaska, an aluminum magnate with whom Manafort had done business in the past, these people said.
“If he needs private briefings we can accommodate,” Manafort wrote in the July 7, 2016, email, portions of which were read to The Washington Post along with other Manafort correspondence from that time.
The emails are among tens of thousands of documents that have been turned over to congressional investigators and special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s team as they probe whether Trump associates coordinated with Russia as part of Moscow’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 U.S. election.
There is no evidence in the documents showing that Deripaska received Manafort’s offer or that any briefings took place. And a spokeswoman for Deripaska dismissed the email ex[at]changes as scheming by “consultants in the notorious ‘beltway bandit’ industry.”
Nonetheless, investigators believe that the exchanges, which reflect Manafort’s willingness to profit from his prominent role alongside Trump, created a potential opening for Russian interests at the highest level of a U.S. presidential campaign, according to people familiar with the probe.
Several of the exchanges, which took place between Manafort and a Kiev-based employee of his international political consulting practice, focused on money that Manafort believed he was owed by Eastern European clients.
The notes appear to be written in deliberately vague terms, with Manafort and his longtime employee, Konstantin Kilimnik, never explicitly mentioning Deripaska by name. But investigators believe that key passages refer to Deripaska, who is referenced in some places by his initials, “OVD,” according to people familiar with the emails. One email uses “black caviar,” a Russian delicacy, in what investigators believe is a veiled reference to payments Manafort hoped to receive from former clients.
In one April exchange days after Trump named Manafort as a campaign strategist, Manafort referred to his positive press and growing reputation and asked, “How do we use to get whole?”
Manafort spokesman Jason Maloni said Wednesday that the email ex[at]changes reflected an “innocuous” effort to collect past debts.
“It’s no secret Mr. Manafort was owed money by past clients,” Maloni said.
Maloni said no briefings with Deripaska ever took place but that, in his email, Manafort was offering what would have been a “routine” briefing on the state of the campaign.

Just as a matter of interest longway, do you believe that the Russians interfered in the election?
“If we stop testing right now we’d have very few cases, if any.” Donald J Trump.
I am sure by digging enough they might find a traffic violation in all this, and indict him for it
Only a moron still thinks they didn't interfere.
That is not the issue.
The issue is whether they did it with the knowledge of or at the behest of the orange cunto campaign.
Personally I think he'll be able to blame that one on someone else.
But the investigation has segued into money laundering.
And that's where the fun starts.
What did you do with the $55 million the Russian overpaid, eh orange cunto?
so Harry you are into conspiracy theory now
