I actually thought you, Neo, would see this article in a good light, since Mike Lofgren wrote the book on the deep state in America.
Russia is making ties and signing deals with right wing and nationalist parties over Europe which share the same ideology. They aim to undermine the current European governments and their partnerships by linking with those radicals. Would stand to reason they would try the same thing in America to weaken the government and the government's international partnerships. This only benefits Putin.
The internal rot you speak of in America is being exploited by Russians by means of the internet. Russian fake news has found new and fertile ground in the US alt-right. The alt-right is the American version of nationalist who also have the same agenda as Putin in that they are anti-globalist, anti-immigrant, anti-feminist, and basically anti-human rights. They are anti-intellectual, and mostly religious nutters who are inclined to want war and Putin is their new, White, darling. This disease is spreading into the mainstream by the likes of Hannity, Limbaugh, and the true idiot, Alex Jones.
Trump and his associates could well have been reached by Putin. There could have been a monetary deal made to ease sanctions on Russia. This remains to be seen but the evidence is mounting up. Too many in the government have had communications with Russians which they have tried to cover up. Trump and his minions have tried too hard to slow or stop the investigations for this to be nothing.
That Russia interfered in the US election by means of the internet is clear. You may choose Putin's word over the US and European intelligence community, but I do not.
