It appears that goldilocks himself believes some of them to be terrorists. It all depends on what badge they wear into battle on the day.

'Fatal Mistake': Turkey Slams Trump Over Warning on 'Economic Devastation'

"Tensions between Ankara and Washington have further escalated over the Kurdish issue as Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced last week that Ankara would launch a military operation east of the Euphrates River if the US failed to withdraw its troops from the Arab Republic in time.

"Cooperation with terrorists will lead nowhere. May we remain hungry, without food and water, but we will do everything that is necessary. The United States and all other countries should show sufficient respect for Turkey", Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlet Cavusoglu said, addressing the US president’s warning of "economic devastation" should Ankara target US-backed Kurdish forces in Syria.

"It is a fatal mistake to equate Syrian Kurds with the PKK [Kurdistan Workers' Party], which is on the US terrorists list, and its Syria branch PYD [Kurdish Democratic Union Party]/YPG [Kurdish People's Protection Units]. Turkey fights against terrorists, not Kurds. We will protect Kurds and other Syrians against all terrorist threats", he stressed."

On a more positive note, one of the opposition groups leader, signals he is ready for talks regarding a political settlement.

Syrian opposition leader Ahmad Jarba ready to head to Damascus for talks

    MOSCOW, January 13. /TASS/.

“ A prominent leader of the Syrian opposition, the head of the Syria's Tomorrow Movement Ahmad Jarba, said he was ready to head to Damascus for talks with the Syrian governemnt, the Al Mayadeen TV has reported.

According to the channel’s information, Jarba, who is an influential tribe leader in eastern Syria, came forward with the initiative while in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. He said he expected the Iraqi government’s assistance in establishing a dialogue with the Syrian authorities.
Jarba supports Arab tribe militiamen, who fight alongside Kurdish groups within the Syrian Democratic Forces movement against the Islamic State terrorist group (outlawed in Russia).

The initiative that he plans to suggest to the Syrian government envisages the creation of tribal groups to protect the border with Iraq following the withdrawal of US military forces from Syria.

In January 2014, Jarba, who headed the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces at that period, was among the organizers of the first round of intra-Syrian talks in Geneva. Later, he supported the idea of holding the Congress of the Syrian National Dialogue, which took place in Russia’s Black Sea resort city of Sochi on January 30-31, 2018.”

Turkey not deterred by threats - Cavusoglu

Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu pushed back against comments from US President Donald Trump, saying nothing could be achieved by threatening Ankara economically and strategic partners should not communicate over social media.

Ankara will not shrink from threats by US President Donald Trump, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Monday.

"We have repeatedly said that we are never afraid of threats. Threatening Turkey economically will get you nowhere," Cavusoglu told a news conference with his Luxembourg counterpart Jean Asselborn in the Turkish capital Ankara.

Cavusoglu's remarks came in response to Trump's threat to attack Turkey's economy if Ankara hits the terror group PKK/YPG during the withdrawal of US troops from Syria.

"Strategic partners" should not communicate through social media, Cavusoglu added, in clear reference to the perennially tweeting US leader.

"The US Will devastate Turkey economically if they hit Kurds," Trump tweeted on Sunday, conflating Kurds with the terrorist PKK/YPG, a confusion that Turkey has repeatedly criticised.

Cavusoglu said Turkey is not the enemy of the Kurdish people.

He added there is serious pressure on Trump not to withdraw from Syria.

Following the surprise announcement in December that US forces would leave Syria, US officials said withdrawal was conditional on the US not attacking the "Kurds," meaning the terrorist PKK/YPG.

Turkish officials attacked the US conflation of "Kurds" with the terror group, saying a forthcoming Turkish operation in Syria targets a terrorist group which threatens Arabs, Turkmens, and Kurds alike in Syria.

In its 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK has taken some 40,000 lives. The YPG/PYD is its Syrian branch.

There are so many problems in the world with so many different religions, tribes, factions, sects, cabals, etc, all the frictions are to be solved in very sensitive way - not really heavy-handed.

Luckily, for the world, there is one state with many experts who know how to deal with all of it, wherever in the world it is.

Allegedly, these are the demands of the Kurdish group in Syria.

"On January 19, the so-called Democratic Federation of Northern Syria (DFNS), an entity established by US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces in attempt to legalize their control over a part of Syria, released a 10-points long list of demands to the Damascus government.
    The list includes:

    1. the demand to accept the DFNS’ Autonomous Administration as a legal part of the Syrian political system,
    2. To guarantee the representation of the DFNS in the Syrian Parliament,
    3. To use the Syrian Flag alongside with the flag of the DFNS,
    4. To allow the DFNS to employ it's own independent foreign policy,
    5. To allow the Kurdish-dominated SDF to keep control of the Syrian border,
    6. To allow the DFNS’ security force Asayish to remain the main security force within the SDF-held area
    7. To distribute “the Syrian wealth to the Syrian regions in a fair manner.”
    8. To keep the unity of Syrian land
    9. to grant some rights to the minorities

Summing up the claims, the DFNS in fact demanded the Damascus government to legally recognize and a semi-independent Kurdish state and its military force within Syria and to fund this state from the central budget.

If these demands were the official stance of the Kurdish leadership during the recent round of talks with Damascus over the situation in northern Syria, it becomes apparent why no notable progress has been achieved so far."

Syria, Then and Now: Liberated of Western-Backed Terrorism

"In a surprise turn of events, last month U.S. President Donald J. Trump made the abrupt unilateral announcement that American troops would begin to withdraw from Syria. The unexpected decision provoked the wrath of the foreign policy establishment and bipartisan ‘war party’ in Washington who immediately denounced it as a premature, reckless move that would lead to a resurgence of ISIS. As anticipated, the Beltway blob also claimed it was another sign of Trump’s perceived untold allegiance to Russian President Vladimir Putin. None of the warmongers in Washington would dare admit that the real gains made against ISIS were by the Syrian army with Russian air support, let alone that their own policies were responsible for its manifestation. Sure enough, a suicide bombing in Kurdish-controlled Manbij killed four American personnel just a month later and Daesh, which has a history of taking credit for attacks perpetrated by others, immediately claimed responsibility.

It is almost as if the strategic asset themselves did not desire an American pullback— could it be another ‘false flag’ to keep the war machine in Syria going?"

Dallas Texas. If the airports are open.

Arrival is guaranteed, entry although, being granted "permission to travel", does not mean I cannot be returned on the next flight. That decision depends on an unpaid, ameristani government worker who has an obsession with teenage Saudi females fleeing death threats from her father.

I don't meet that profile unfortunately. Fleeing a crack crazed, machete wielding, Thai female, doesn't have the same financial benefits to the ameristani MIC.

Lizzes request to allow one to travel in foreign lands, has somewhat been tarnished of late.

Syrian Tribes Hold Major Meeting Ahead Of U.S. Forces Withdrawal

On January 25, Syrian tribes held a major meeting in the government-held town of Ithriyah in Aleppo, where they discussed foreign threats and stressed their support for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that thousands of tribal leaders and public figures from all over Syria, including the areas controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), had attended the meeting. Tribal leaders from nearby Lebanon and Iraq were also present.

In the meeting’s foundational statement, the leaders stressed that the Syrian people are determined to defend themselves, their lands and their sovereignty by all means against any form of aggression, including the American and Turkish occupation of the Syrian territories.

The tribal leaders also emphasized that the Syria is untied and independent and said that the sons of the northeastern region are committed to their homeland, state, army and leadership.

“The flag of the country is the flag of the Syrian Arab Republic, which symbolizes its sovereignty and sanctity,” the statement concluded.
The meeting, which was reportedly organized by pro-government businessmen and the Syrian intelligence, is a part of the Damascus government’s efforts to pressure the SDF. The Kurdish dominated group appears to be submitting to this pressure as it has not prevented tribal leaders from attending the meeting as it did before.

A day earlier, Kurdish commander Sipan Hemo said that Damascus is taking positive steps and revealed that a new round of talks will begin soon. These talks will likely shape the future of northeastern Syria following the upcoming withdrawal of U.S. forces.

Senior Kurdish Official: We Will Choose Assad Over Turkish Attack

"Kurdish forces are negotiating with the Damascus government in order to protect northeastern Syria from any attack that Turkey may launch after the nearing withdrawal of U.S. forces, Ilham Ahmed, a co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), told Bloomberg on January 26.

“It isn’t comfortable for us but what is the other option?” said Ilham, who is currently visiting Washington. “If we were cornered into choosing between a Turkish militia attacking our areas,” and reaching an accord with President Bashar al-Assad, she said in an interview in Washington, “we would go with the regime.”
Ilham also confirmed that the SDC has provided President Bashar al-Assad and Russia with an 11-point road map reintegrating the region under the Damascus government. According to her, Syria should be “decentralized” but united.

Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw all American troops from Syria, Turkey began its preparations to launch a military operation in the SDC-controlled areas in the northeastern part of country.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country will establish a safe-zone in northeastern Syria where Arab and Kurds will live together. Furthermore, he claimed that the zone would allow millions of Syrian refugees return to their homeland.

However, Ilham argues that such a Turkish-controlled zone wouldn’t be safe at all for the Kurds, but a “swamp of terrorism.” The Kurdish official also emphasized that Syrian Kurds are willing to fight to defend themselves from any Turkish attack."

Another interesting article from M. K. BHADRAKUMAR

    Putin’s firewall around Russia-Turkey partnership

"The much-awaited meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his visiting Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan in Moscow last Wednesday focused on the the withdrawal of US troops from Syria. The timeframe of the US drawdown or its scope and directions remain far from clear. Meanwhile, attention is riveted on creating a buffer zone in northern Syria, 32 kilometre wide along the Turkish border, which is under discussion presently between Washington and Ankara.

The US special representative on Syria James Jeffrey is expected in Ankara in coming days to carry forward the discussions. From present indications, US may control the airspace over the proposed zone and maintain some sort of presence on the ground as well while Ankara has been maintaining that it has the capability to enforce the zone.

Russia, on the other hand, has consistently voiced its opinion favoring Syrian government control over the regions vacated by the US. Indeed, Syrian leadership also has reiterated its determination to regain control over the entire country.

Thus, the meeting in Moscow on Wednesday took place in a surcharged atmosphere amidst speculation that the Russia-Turkey partnership might get rocky. The US never liked the Astana process on Syria between Russia, Turkey and Iran and the American intentions in baiting Turkey with the buffer zone proposal are highly suspect.

If good diplomacy is about showing tact in handling awkward situations while brilliant diplomacy lies in creating a pathway through a minefield, Putin was probably at his optimal best in navigating the Russian-Turkish partnership out of the reach of the American tentacles. Putin’s remarks after the talks with Erdogan once again underscored that in the Russian estimation, any foreign presence on Syrian soil will lack “international legal grounds” if it is not on the basis of an invitation from Damascus or emanating out of a decision of the UN Security Council. He was specifically referring to the US occupation of Syria. But having said that, Putin qualified that “constructive cooperation” nonetheless becomes necessary even with such partners whose presence in Syria may lack legitimacy. Importantly, Putin added that Russia respects Turkey’s security interests. Then he went on to spring a big surprise:

“And the third. The 1998 treaty between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Turkey is still valid, and it deals specifically with the fight against terrorism. I think this is the legal framework that covers many issues relating to ensuring Turkey’s security on its southern borders. Today we have been discussing this issue thoroughly and intensively enough.”

This needs some explaining. Putin was referring to the Adana Accord of October 1998 between Turkey and Syria regarding cooperation in combating terrorism, which became moribund through the 7-year Syrian conflict. Putin said the agreement “is still valid”, which of course was tantamount to saying that Damascus (and, presumably, Tehran) thought so, too. (By the way, in 2003, Iran too had endorsed the Adana Accord."

US-backed and Kurdish-led Syrian forces have launched a final push to defeat the Islamic State group in the last tiny pocket the extremists hold in eastern Syria.

Mustafa Bali, a spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), tweeted that the offensive began Saturday (local time) after more than 20,000 civilians were evacuated from the IS-held area in the eastern province of Deir el-Zour.

An SDF statement said the offensive was focused on the village of Baghouz, near the Iraqi border.
The SDF, backed by US air power, has driven IS from large swaths of territory it once controlled in northern and eastern Syria, confining the extremists to a small pocket of land near the border with Iraq.
Scores of IS fighters are now besieged in two villages, or less than 1 per cent of the self-styled caliphate that once sprawled across large parts of Syria and Iraq.

"The decisive battle began [Saturday night] to finish what remains of Daesh terrorists," Mr Bali said, using an Arabic acronym to refer to IS.

"The battle is very fierce," he later told The Associated Press.
"Those remaining inside are the most experienced who are defending their last stronghold. According to this you can imagine the ferocity and size of the fighting."
Mr Bali did not say how long they expect the battle to last.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor, said SDF fighters were advancing "cautiously" due to mines planted by IS gunmen.
It said US-led coalition warplanes were giving cover to advancing SDF fighters.
US President Donald Trump predicted last week that IS will have lost all of its territory by next week.

"It should be formally announced sometime, probably next week, that we will have 100 per cent of the caliphate," Mr Trump told representatives of the 79-member, US-led coalition fighting IS.
US officials have said in recent weeks that IS has lost 99.5 per cent of its territory and is holding onto fewer than 5 square kilometres in Syria, where the bulk of the fighters are concentrated.
But activists and residents say IS still has sleeper cells in Syria and Iraq, and is laying the groundwork for an insurgency.
The US military has warned the group could stage a comeback if the military and counterterrorism pressure on it is eased.
The Observatory said that since the SDF began its offensive against IS in the area on September 10, some 1,279 IS gunmen and 678 SDF fighters have been killed.
It said 401 civilians, including 144 children and teenagers, have been killed since then.

I started this thread about four years ago and as time has marched on, it is now claimed that IS has only about 0.5% of its inital caliphate turf left. Does anyone really believe the book will be closed once that small piece of occupied land is ripped out of their hands? I sure don't and I said quite awhile back that IS would just open another chapter in their caliphate quest. Yes, beware of more attacks in Europe and anywhere else they might have some sleeper cells. It is far from over!
