Late last week it was reported that a chemical attack had occured in Syria.

    https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-02-17/turkish-forces-hit-kurds-toxic-gas-after-crossing-syria-report

Turkish Forces Hit Kurds With Toxic Gas After Crossing Into Syria: Report

"Turkish forces which entered Syria in late January have reportedly conducted a gas attack against Kurdish militias in the village of Aranda, sending at least six civilians to the hospital according to Syrian Kurdish forces and local media.

"Six civillians suffering from suffocation as a result of Turkish forces firing missiles containing poison gas," reports Dr. Joan Mohammed, director of nearby Afrin Hospital (via SANA)
Another Doctor, Khalil Sabri, told local news "all of them suffer the same symptoms of suffocation, malaise, itching skin and burning in the eyes." At least two of the victims are listed in critical condition, while four are stable.

A spokesman for the Kurdish YPG militia in Afrin, Birusk Hasaka, confirmed to Reuters that Turkish forces hit a village in the northwest of the region, near the Turkish border.
Meanwhile, "the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told Reuters that Turkish forces and their Syrian insurgent allies hit the village on Friday with shells. The Britain-based monitor said medical sources in Afrin reported that six people in the attack suffered breathing difficulties and dilated pupils, indicating a suspected gas attack."

So the usual suspects accused, in this case Turkey of using Chemical weapons on civilians in Syria.Previously in the week The French president warned that they would attack if an incident occurred.

    https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-02-13/macron-france-will-strike-if-chemical-weapons-used-syria

"French President Emmanuel Macron says he is prepared to "strike" Syria if evidence is found to support claims that President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons against civilians, though noted that French intelligence agencies do not have any such proof.

On chemical weapons, I set a red line and I reaffirm that red line,” Macron told reporters in Paris on Tuesday. “Today, our agencies, our armed forces have not established that chemical weapons, as set out in treaties, have been used against the civilian population.”
“We have some indications of possible chlorine use [in Syria], but we have no absolute confirmation... So we, alongside the others, are working on trying to confirm this, as we clearly have to get the facts straight.” -French Defense Minister Florence Parly
Facilities used to store and "originate" chemical weapons shipments would be the primary targets, said the French President, who also told reporters that he warned Russian President Vladimir Putin of France's plans during a phone call last Friday.

I've reiterated it to President Putin, asking to make it very clear to the Syrian regime, which has reaffirmed that it does not use chemical weapons … but we are watching it,” Macron stated."

The French Foreign Affairs Minister confirmed similar the same day.

    https://blackswanalert.com/2018/02/1...-line-comment/

"According to Reuters, France’s foreign minister sought to clarify his government’s position on the use of chemical weapons in Syria saying that Paris would only strike if the attacks were lethal and carried out by government forces.
President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that “France will strike” if chemical weapons are used against civilians in the Syrian conflict in violation of international treaties, but that he had not yet seen proof this was the case.
In a telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday expressed concern over signs that chlorine bombs had been used against civilians in Syria.

“(The president) confirmed that he would proceed to military strikes against regime installations if there was a new use of chemical weapons by Bashar al-Assad’s forces when these attacks are lethal and regime’s responsibility is proven,” Jean-Yves Le Drian told lawmakers."

Evidence, as utilised in previous attacks had been published, France has committed to attack if chemical were used and by government forces. Ameristan has previous on attacking. Some were asking questions but most of the questions were regarding who and what forces would be used along with what targets will be "bombed back to the stone-age"1. Would it be France, Ameristan or more crusader coalition attackers?2. Would a NATO country attack another NATO country. It being Turkey who used the chemical weapons, allegedly.?
    3. Would Turkey, if attacked, call on other NATO countries to help defend it's forces, as NATO is setup to assist each NATO member?
    4. Would the attack be on Turkish airfields.
    5. Would French bombers bomb the main Turkish NATO base Interlink, in Turkey, where possibly the attacking Turkish forces were based?
    6. Would the ameristani (NATO) planes based at the Interlink base be attacked?
    7. Would Turkey request other NATO members attack wherever the attacking NATO forces came from - carriers or airfields? As you can imagine not many knew the answers.

As of yesterday a workaround has be found to "resolve" the situation.

White House Dismisses Reports Of Turkish Gas Attack In Syria As "Extremely Unlikely"

"According a new Associated Press report a White House official says the US thinks it is "extremely unlikely" Turkey used chemical weapons against Kurds. The comments came late on Saturday following widespread reports which emerged earlier in the day that Turkish forces launched a chemical gas attack on Kurdish militias in the northern Syria village of Aranda on Friday, sending at least six civilians to the hospital. In response, counter-terrorism expert Max Abrams appropriately quipped concerning the White House's hasty excusal of US ally Turkey as a culprit: sounds scientific, right? "

    I
t appears that the LORD may have found another chink in the crusader coalitions armour to exploit.

NOW MATTIS ADMITS THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE ASSAD USED POISON GAS ON HIS PEOPLE

Lost in the hyper-politicized hullabaloo surrounding the Nunes Memorandum and the Steele Dossier was the striking statement by Secretary of Defense James Mattis that the U.S. has “no evidence” that the Syrian government used the banned nerve agent Sarin against its own people.

This assertion flies in the face of the White House (NSC) Memorandum which was rapidly produced and declassified to justify an American Tomahawk missile strike against the Shayrat airbase in Syria.

Mattis offered no temporal qualifications, which means that both the 2017 event in Khan Sheikhoun and the 2013 tragedy in Ghouta are unsolved cases in the eyes of the Defense Department and Defense Intelligence Agency.

America has accused Assad of direct responsibility for Sarin attacks and even blamed Russia for culpability in the Khan Sheikhoun tragedy.

Now its own military boss has said on the record that we have no evidence to support this conclusion. In so doing, Mattis tacitly impugned the interventionists who were responsible for pushing the “Assad is guilty” narrative twice without sufficient supporting evidence, at least in the eyes of the Pentagon.

Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis
    Feb. 2, 2018

Q: Can I ask a quick follow up, just a clarification on what you'd said earlier about Syria and sarin gas?

    SEC. MATTIS: Yeah.

Q: Just make sure I heard you correctly, you're saying you think it's likely they have used it and you're looking for the evidence? Is that what you said?

SEC. MATTIS: That's -- we think that they did not carry out what they said they would do back when -- in the previous administration, when they were caught using it. Obviously they didn't, cause they used it again during our administration.

And that gives us a lot of reason to suspect them. And now we have other reports from the battlefield from people who claim it's been used.

We do not have evidence of it. But we're not refuting them; we're looking for evidence of it. Since clearly we are using -- we are dealing with the Assad regime that has used denial and deceit to hide their outlaw actions, okay?

Q: So the likelihood was not what your -- you're not characterizing it as a likelihood? I thought I used -- you used that word; I guess I misunderstood you.

SEC. MATTIS: Well, there's certainly groups that say they've used it. And so they think there's a likelihood, so we're looking for the evidence.

Islamic State kills 12 Iraqi militiamen near Kirkuk

KIRKUK, Iraq (Reuters) - Islamic State militants ambushed a convoy of government-backed militia fighters near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk late on Sunday, killing at least 12 of them, police and militia commanders said on Monday.

At least 10 other fighters from the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) are missing, a local militia commander said.

A security official said Iraqi security forces were pursuing the Islamic State militants who disguised themselves in police uniforms to carry out the attack.

France with or without NATO attacks NATO ally Turkey for using gas on the Kurds...that should be interesting.

Would be more interesting when EU forces are up and running and faced with that predicament.

Mind you, Turkey doesn't seem to have much clue who's the friend and who's the enemy.

Turkey's like a scorpion, with a genetic contempt for Kurds, but good idea from Assad if it works, lead Russia into a new front against the whole 'civilised' world contractually obliged to protect a deranged friend...I think I'll invest in bitcoin.

Actually, there's surely a deal to be made to suit everyone - except the Americans. Perhaps Russia can enable negotiations for the deal.

If the Syrian government/military takes control of that border area from the Kurds, the Turks would have no reason to attack the Kurds. Syria would get control of a bit more of its border, and the Kurds stop getting attacked by Turkey. Win-win-win, surely.

Turkey bombing pro-Assad forces - reports

(Updates with news report from second paragraph.)
Turkey is bombarding forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad after they entered the enclave of Afrin on Tuesday, Turkish media reported citing Syrian state television.
Turkish jets struck a convoy of the militia as it entered the disputed area, Cumhuriyet newspaper reported. A group of 270 fighters made the incursion, it said.
Soldiers loyal to Assad entered Afrin earlier on Tuesday, according to Iran-backed Hezbollah's media arm and local witnesses.
Brusk Haseke, a spokesman for Kurdish militiants in Afrin, confirmed that pro-Assad forces were being deployed but declined to give numbers, Cumhuriyet said.
