...then again, can you trust the average American in a domestic?

Colorado shooting: Four police officers injured, one dead

A police officer has been killed and four others have been injured in an "ambush-style attack" while responding to a verbal disturbance in Colorado.
The shooting happened at an apartment at Highlands Ranch, south of Denver.

Authorities confirmed two civilians, thought to be the shooter's neighbours, were also shot before the suspect was shot and killed by officers.
Residents in the area were put on "code red" alert and told to stay inside away from windows during the incident. People were told to avoid the area while Swat officers responded. A bomb squad was also pictured at the scene.

At a news conference, Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock confirmed the dead officer was 29-year-old Zackari Parrish, who was married with two children.

He and the other officers were called to the property at about 05:00 (12:00 GMT) after neighbours confirmed about a verbal disturbance involving two male roommates at the property. After being let into the apartment, they were shot by the suspect, who police say was known to law enforcement but did not have a criminal record.

Authorities say he used a rifle to fire at least 100 rounds before being killed. His identity has not yet been released while formal identification takes place.

Sheriff Spurlock confirmed the four injured officers, aged between 28 and 41, are in a stable condition.
Police also say the two injured civilians do not have life threatening injuries.

Officer Parish's body was escorted from hospital by a procession of dozens of law enforcement vehicles late on Sunday morning.

'Five officers shot' in Colorado disturbance

Police in Colorado say seven people, including five officers, have been shot while responding to an emergency call.
Gunfire broke out as sheriff's deputies responded to calls of a "domestic disturbance" at a landscaped apartment complex south of the city at about 5am local time.
Douglas County officers said one of the deputies died from their injuries.
The other two people hurt were civilians.
Police believe the gunman was shot dead.

Actually it's due to the actions of the cops. They shot and killed the victim. Nobody else.

They really should review their procedures.

4 Dead as 16-Year-Old Boy Opens Fire on New Year’s Eve, Prosecutors Say

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is accused of gunning down his three family members and another family friend, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said in a news release.
Police arrived at the family’s Long Branch home after receiving a 911 call about gunshots Sunday at 11:43pm. They found the bodies of the suspect’s 44-year-old father Steven Kologi, 42-year-old mother Linda Kologi, 18-year-old sister Brittany Kologi, and a 70-year-old friend of the family, Mary Schultz.
The suspect’s grandfather and brother were also in the house during the time of the shooting, but they escaped without any injuries, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The suspect was taken into custody, the prosecutor said. He faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, the Park Press reported.

His motive is unclear. Authorities said the killings were an “isolated domestic incident.”

^ According to the NRA, this tragedy could have been prevented if the victims were allowed to open carry rocket propelled grenades.

Man shoots his mom in the head during tantrum over video games, police say

A 28-year-old man playing a video game in his bedroom threw a fit, broke his headset, then picked up a gun and killed his mother, according to police in Ceres, Calif.

Matthew Nicholson stayed with his parents in a powder blue house with a basketball hoop over the garage door. It was a loving and open home, and 68-year-old Lydia Nicholson was the sort of mother who “wanted to see the best in people at all times,” her daughter told Fox 40.

But a police spokesman told the station that officers had visited the home after a fight between Nicholson and his parents once in the past six months, before Thursday, when they would arrive too late.
Nicholson was in his room that night playing a game, according to Ceres police, when something upset him and he began to yell. His mother went in to check on him, they started to argue, and Nicholson broke his headset.

He blamed his mother for this, police said, and threatened to kill her and his father, identifiedby Fox 40 as Loren Nicolson.

There was a gun in the house, police said, and so Nicholson tried to make good on his threat.” He came out yelling something about, ‘My headset is broken,’ ” police spokesman Greg Yotsuya told NBC affiliate KCRA. “Then grabbed a gun and started shooting.”

He allegedly fired into a wall, twice. Another bullet might have gone into the ceiling, the station reported. Another went into Lydia Nicholson’s head.

“He would’ve killed the father too, but the gun jammed,” a family friend told Fox 40. “The father grabbed the gun, emptied it.”

Without a weapon anymore, police said, Matthew Nicholson son fled in a vehicle, leaving his parents to their misery.

Loren had been with Lydia for 32 years, according to Fox 40. Now he called 911 and held his wife in his arms.

Woman goes on horrific murder-suicide spree, killing entire family and their three dogs

Domestic tension may have been at the root of a torrid murder-suicide spree in California earlier this month. Police informed that Teresa Mae Wilson was responsible for the murder of her family along with their pet dogs and cats.
According to reports, on 7 January, the 68-year-old opened fire on her husband Gary Lynn Wilson, 69; their son Ellis Leroy Wilson II, 44, and his wife Zoe Lynn Wilson, 20. She then shot their three dogs before setting their Bella Vista house on fire and turned the gun on herself.

Two cats also died from smoke inhalation.
"Due to the tension, it is believed Teresa may have reacted and committed the acts," Shasta County sheriff's Sergeant Brian Jackson stated in a press release. He said that investigators had found a burned .380-caliber semi-automatic gun in Wilson's lap that they believe belonged to her. Sell casing were also found at the scene.
"No evidence or information has been discovered that any other person (s) are responsible for the deaths and fire," Jackson added, according to the USA Today.
Postmortem confirmed that the woman was alive when the fire started as her lungs showed indications of smoke inhalation. She died from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
The surviving family member, Wilson's daughter Ronnia Krug, who was not at the house when the incident occurred, shared a Facebook post describing her mother as her "best friend".
"I would always talk to her about everything. She was a great listener. I don't know what I would have done without her," she wrote.
"Missing my family. Loving them and wanting them to be remembered as the kind, caring parents as everyone knew them as."

I'm sure they did but there doesn't seem a lot of point reporting it unless it's a multiple shooting or involves kids.

ELLIS COUNTY -- The Ellis County Sheriff's Office has a 16-year-old student in custody after a school shooting Monday morning that left a 15-year-old injured.
The sheriff's office said that just before 8 a.m., an active shooter was reported at Italy High School in Italy, Texas. A 16-year-old male suspect was taken into custody without incident after shooting a 15-year-old girl in the cafeteria, officials said.
The girl was taken via helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital. Her condition hasn't been released.
“This is a trying time for our community and our school," Superintendent Lee Joffre said in a press conference.
He added that counselors will be provided on campus to speak with students.
Earlier in the morning, an Italy ISD parent showed WFAA a text message alert Superintendent Joffre sent Monday morning. The message confirmed the shooting at Italy High School, and stated that one person was shot and taken to the hospital.
