.. or believe what he has to say. Attack his creditability, and then kill him. Not long until they say "we have proof he was a spy all along for China" I reckon.

Anyway, hopeful only the completely insanely stupid will believe their lies about him.

So because Im a boring nobody that makes it ok for the NSA to listen in on my conversations? Ummm yeah OK. Well at least all the spying has ended the threat of Terrorism. Oh wait, no it hasn't. I wonder how much money PRISM cost the US taxpayers? Fekkin travesty.

Watch Clapper Lie: “No spy should have that big a tell.”

If this is the best Obama can do then the country isn't in the best of hands.

It is amazing how gullible these fools are.

So, here's what happens. You put an advert up to sell a TV. You get lots of calls, one of which from someone who buys it. He gets lost on the way, so a fair few calls and an sms. Is name is Iqbal Faizel Mohammad. he buys your TV and off he goes.

In Pakistan, someone is being tortured. The reason why is that he was having an affair with a blokes wife, and this bloke dobs him in to the yanks to get revenge and a pocket full of loot. After a few days of torutre, this man makes up a story about a man called Iqbal Mohammed who lives in New York and is planning to do something, if only to get the yanks to stop pulling his finger nails out. the Yanks tap it into their computer and up pops Iqbal Faizel Mohammad who lives NY with you, but has no idea who the bloke is pakistan is as his name was chosen at random. Iqbal is a Doctor, and is as American as apple pie (with a touch of cinnamon). The FBI start investigating him, and on going through his phone records, they see a flurry of calls to you, that stopped the same day that a bomb plot was foiled in another part of the world. Upon being chucked onto a rendition flight that Obama said would be stopped although they are so secret, who really knows and why would the CIA listen to Obama anyway (they never have) Iqbal to save his last finger nail says "yes, he did it, and you were involved too".

there you go - you are now fucked as they swoop in and hold you indefinitely under the executive order Obama actually signed whilst he was pretending it was one to close Gitmo. .

So many reasons why this snooping is wrong and open to abuse by target chasing cops and spooks. To excuse it is ludicrous and the work of a moron to do so.

I was just thinking - and I'm sure I'm not the first to do so - that this would make a good plot for a futuristic novel. Perpetual phony war, total state surveillance. We'd need a protagonist, maybe call him Winston Smith or something.

First example that comes to mind is, of course, the legacy of GWB.

Heh...noted the other day that Dubya was relieved that at least Obamacare can't be blamed on him!

Snowden has just told the HK govt the extent of the U.S. spying on HK so I'm guessing they will want to hang on to him a bit longer, good move but futile in the long run.
Hong Kongs asylum laws will help him as well. As soon as he lodges an asylum application he's protected untill it's processed (which could take years) and all appeal avenues have been exhausted.
he's also hinting at what he knows about spying on Beijing.
He says he's worried about the fact that the CIA have an office 2 blocks from where he's holed up. (and he would know). Hillarious.

^ Not that I care, but unless he already had decided that he would turn himself into a bona fide traitor rather than just try to remain a whistle-blower, it was a real bad move to even go to Hong Kong in the first place IMO.

Him now singing to the Chinese comes as no real big surprise - voluntarily or by pressure applied, he set himself up for that outcome one way or the other if he stayed there, there was no way the Chinese would let him be without getting their pound of flesh.

I doubt he thinks there is much to laugh about by now.

I almost hope for him it is all smoke and mirrors to throw the dogs of the scent.

Obama’s Snooping Excludes Mosques, Missed Boston Bombers.

“Since October 2011, mosques have been off-limits to FBI agents. No more surveillance or undercover string operations without high-level approval from a special oversight body at the Justice Department dubbed the Sensitive Operations Review Committee. . . . The FBI never canvassed Boston mosques until four days after the April 15 attacks, and it did not check out the radical Boston mosque where the Muslim bombers worshipped.”

That's right, how can we forget! Those evil Tea Party folks were the absolute top priority, eh?

Any terrorist with half a brain would buy one of those $20 throw away cell phones from Walmart, use it for his dangerous calls, never call any friends on it so there would be no one to trace and throw it out weekly.

Not all terrorists are so stupid they take flying lessons and let it be known they don't care about learning how to land, are they? Of course the morons who did that still succeeded or were allowed to succeed.

The traces work both ways, sender and receiver. Not that easy to hide once they are on to you, same goes for e mail, you can get a new e mail address everyday, but someone has to know the address to send to you etc. Jim

Um, no, you didn't make it, but nice try.

And President Obama is spot on when he says "We're going to have to make some choices as a society."

Do Americans really want to sacrifice the 4th Amendment of the constitution in exchange for "safety and security"? I hope not, but reckon it will be up to the Supreme Court to decide.

Jon Stewart's brilliantly British replacement for the summer, John Oliver, sums up everything that is wrong with how the government is handling the NSA issue.

When Sen. Al Franken speaks, we probably ought to listen. We went to the same high school, though he's a couple decades ahead of me. Al Franken is a straight shooter and about as trustworthy as they come.

As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he has more first-hand knowledge about the NSA's data-mining than attention-seeking libertarian opportunists like Greenwald and Paul who only seek to stoke antigovernment paranoia.

The NSA Has at Least 1 Liberal Friend Left: Sen. Al Franken

Franken, the Minnesota Democrat who is on the Senate Judiciary Committee, knew about the data-mining. Or at least that's what he told Minnesota's WCCO on Tuesday. "I can assure you, this is not about spying on the American people," Franken said. The senator also believes the data collection has saved American lives:
I have a high level of confidence that this is used to protect us, and I know that it has been successful in preventing terrorism.

There are certain things that are appropriate for me to know that is not appropriate for the bad guys to know.
