Staged by whom and for what purpose?

Militia member and protestor Eric Parker takes aim at Bureau of Land Management agents at Nevada standoff. (Reuters)

Flat on his belly in a sniper position, wearing a baseball cap and a flak jacket, a protester aimed his semi-automatic rifle from the edge of an overpass and waited as a crowd below stood its ground against U.S. federal agents in the Nevada desert.

Basically, in John Stewart's words, the 'rancher' was sponging off the federal government by grazing his cattle on federal land without paying a cent for the longest time.
Illegal . . . and if the dimwit keeps by his idiotic excuse of not recognising the federal government then why does he ride around proudly waving the stars and stripes.

The guy taking aim at federal officers should be arrested and charged . . .

    Americans . . . amazing

The Rancher has a Constitutional argument over the land. He claims that Feds own it illegally.

Part of the reasoning according to him, was the law then (and perhaps now) about land when Nevada became a state.

The rancher lost his court cases.

You can't simply not recognise the courts validity if you lose. He belongs in jail

Hardly in any way representative of this case . . . he cannot base his defense on not accepting the USA as a country etc . . .
He accepts his state but doesn't understand that the state itself is part of the USA

Jailtime . . . even Glen Beck, of all people, thinks the guy deserves to be behind bars

With the American feds - you are not American, I am - the dack is stacked against you.

That is why in the state of CA, if you sold medical marijuana, which was legal under state law - you have been sentenced to years in prison under Fed law.

And the jury was NOT allowed to know that is was OK to see state licensed marijuana under CA state law!

    More Guns Please

Just heard on the radio that the state of Georgia will be allowing guns in churches, bars, and some parts of the airports. I believe Atlanta has the world's busiest airport, so I guess it makes sense...Heh...

    So, what are they thinking?...

    No links...Caw toad...

    My home state. Sigh.

Note that while governor Deal pushed for guns to be allowed in public libraries, city halls, court rooms, and recreation areas, he did not allow for them to be carried where he works, in the State Capitol building.

I don't have a problem with someone owning a gun. I just don't think there is a need to take them everywhere.

The Governor of Georgia, Nathan Deal

Just checked wikipedia and it says Georgia is about 70% white and 30% Black. I thought there were more black people there.

"Georgia has one of the largest military presences in the country. Several United States military installations are located in the state including Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Fort Benning, Moody Air Force Base, Robins Air Force Base, Fort Gordon, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Coast Guard Air Station Savannah and Coast Guard Station Brunswick."

Why so many? Must have some influence on Georgia's government.

    ^

One large church in my hometown borders a notorious housing project full of criminals. The congregation consists of wealthy African-Americans who were regularly being robbed at gunpoint by thugs in the parking lot. They have had armed guards for years. No real change there.

Would that include shooting the pastor if he said you were going to hell? Might be like a self fulfilling prophesy perhaps?

Perhaps you could invoke 'stand your ground' laws as defence against shooting a pastor who said you were going to hell.

    Another dumbass kills

NJ man shoots 11-year-old nephew dead while demonstrating laser sight on his forehead

NJ man shoots 11-year-old nephew dead while demonstrating laser sight on his forehead

An 11-year-old New Jersey boy was shot dead over the weekend when his uncle was showing off a number of guns that he thought were unloaded, and pointed one with a laser sight at the child’s forehead.

The Pocono Record reported that State Police responded to reports of shots fired in a gated community in Delaware Township at around 5:35 p.m. on Saturday.
According to a police report, the 11-year-old child was visiting the home of his grandfather. The boy allegedly asked his uncle, 34-year-old Chad Olm, who lives in the basement, to see his gun collection.

Olm told police that he opened his security safe and began showing his weapons to the nephew, and his son, who was also present. He insisted that he did not keep the guns loaded.

After letting the boys handle three handguns — a .357 Magnum revolver, a .22 revolver and a 9 mm — he then pulled out a Glock 27 .40-caliber handgun that was equipped with a laser sight.

Olm stated that he did not check to see if there was a round in the chamber, but said that the handgun did not have a magazine in it. Olm said that he pointed the laser at the walls and ceiling. And then he pointed it at his nephew.

“Look, you have a red dot on your forehead,” Olm recalled one of the boys saying.
Olm said that when the nephew reached out for the gun, he pulled the trigger. A single bullet struck the child above the eye, causing him to start bleeding and fall over.

“It’s horribly tragic. The family is devastated,” Blooming Grove State Police station commander Lt. Chris Paris pointed out. “It goes to show that the safe handling of firearms is a must. The family has lost something that they can never replace.”
Police arrested Olm on charges of criminal homicide, recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of children. He was being held at Pike County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.

WNEP identified the boy as Hunter Pedersen, a fifth grader in the Wallenpaupack Area School District. Counselors were expected to be available to talk to students during Monday classes.

Lock this fool up! I wonder why his jackass monkey parents named him Hunter! It's so typical of ignorant folks to give that name. Great hunting!

Never aim a gun at an unintended target, even if you think it's not loaded. Is that common sense?

    Thumbs up

Since the post above this one there have been dozens of stories about people gunning down others in the US. Sometimes I get a good laugh out of them but that's only because people want this insanity. The world is making me insane.

Florida 6-year-old kills grandfather with AK-47 left unattended by boy’s uncle at family picnic

They should have a weekly TV show about this like Cops where they can sensationalize the events and exploit the victims and perpetrators of the crimes and accidents to fill the pockets of the media people. They sure have enough material with multiple stupid gun deaths everyday. It's all pretty much deserved by the families of the gun owners who die. The US is nuts! F-ing buts!

Vendor Accidentally Shoots Woman at Gun Show

A vendor accidentally shot a woman in the leg while demonstrating a gun and holster at a central Pennsylvania gun show, police said.

The Columbia County district attorney's office will determine whether the vendor, Geoffrey Hawk, will face criminal charges stemming from the shooting Saturday at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds, Officer Brad Sharrow said.

Hawk, 44, of Warminster, didn't immediately return calls Sunday to his cellphone and business, In Case of Emergency Enterprises. He was manning a booth for his business at the Eagle Arms Gun show at the time of the shooting.

Hawk told police he thought the gun was unloaded when he demonstrated a concealed-carry wallet holster to the woman, Krista Gearhart, 25, of Orangeville.

Gearhart was treated and released for a thigh wound at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Hawk told police he had done the same demonstration about 20 times without incident before the shooting, "racking" the gun's slide to clear it of bullets each time, Sharrow said. Somehow, the gun was loaded when Gearhart was shot.

Police said Hawk told them he had left the gun on display when he completed background checks on some customers and believes it's possible someone loaded the gun when he was busy.

Joel Koehler, the gun show organizer, said Hawk was asked to close his booth and leave the show, which continued Sunday. The show has an entrance sign that says "No Loaded Weapons" and Koehler said his staff checks all guns to ensure they are unloaded before they are brought in for display.

Koehler said Saturday's shooting was the first at any show he has held at the fairgrounds or anywhere else

Wow, a lot of posters blaming stupid behavior on the guns.

    It won't work.

There is not way to ban the guns, nor the stupid people who misuse them.

I wish there were NO guns int he US, but that is a hypothetical argument.

It's more to do with human error than stupidity.

An experienced gun show vendor would have some sense of responsibility/knowledge of weapons, one would have thought. He wasn't under the influence of drugs or drink but still pointed a lethal weapon (loaded or otherwise) at a member of the public.

Stupidity?, probably - Human error?, Definitely!!

Military personnel and weapons are a dangerous combination, civilians with weapons more so.

Not as though we didn't know this already....

FBI Confirms Rise in Mass Shootings in US

A new FBI study confirms that the number of mass shootings in the United States has increased steadily over the past decade.

The Bureau issued a report Wednesday that identifies 160 active shootings between 2000 and 2013. Active shootings are defined as incidents in which a gunmen fired at a large group of people and killed or attempted to kill more than one person.

The data show that between 2000 and 2007, there was an average of 6.4 active shooter incidents per year, but that from 2007 to 2103, the rate of such incidences more than doubled, to an average of 16.4 shootings annually.

The study did not look at the motives, but it identified some of the common characteristics of the shooters. Most of them were individuals who had grievances or felt marginalized.

Most of the shootings were carried out by one person at a school or business. Most of the school shootings were carried out by students, and only six of the shooters were women.

Officials explain the increase in the number of shootings in recent years as a "copycat phenomenon." They say past shootings and the resulting notoriety inspired new incidents.

More than 1,000 people were killed or wounded in the shootings that have occurred in 40 out of the 50 states.

The study was prepared to help train law enforcement agents in how to respond to such incidents.

Automobile accidents kill more people than firearms. Maybe they should ban the automobile.
