He did not "hand the election over to Romney. NJ is not important at this stage.

Cristie will not be running for potus in 4 years.

NJ itself may not be important, but Cristie a respected republican who was one of the main speakers at the Rep conference singing Obama's praises is not exactly what Romney would have wanted 1 week before the election while Romney was stuck handing out unwanted tinned food he'd just bought from wal mart at a red cross centre. As to whether Cristie runs in 4 years we'll have to wait and see but this is based on Obama winning next week. Presuming Obama does win next week, what makes you think Cristie won't run in 4 years time??????

This article from last year looks to me that Cristie will run next time......in fact seems quite a few people wanted him to run this time....

Cristie was the keynote speaker at the Republican Convention, presumably hand picked, or at least heavily influenced by, the Romney campaign organization.

The fact that he chose to take this opportunity to jump the Rethug ship and head for a liferaft called Reasonable Bipartisan is an indication of how much chance he thinks Romney has of winning now. Same could go for Bloomberg, a very cautious politician, I've heard it said, who endorsed Obama today. Cristie's statement went farther than he needed to--full of piss and anger. Granted, that's kind of his style, but he really seemed to be burning his bridges here.

    Schrewd timing politically, too.

Add the highly respected Economist to that list too.

"For all his businesslike intentions, Mr Romney has an economic plan that works only if you don't believe most of what he says. That is not a convincing pitch for a chief executive," The Economist said.
"And for all his shortcomings, Mr Obama has dragged America's economy back from the brink of disaster, and has made a decent fist of foreign policy. So this newspaper would stick with the devil it knows, and re-elect him."

I subscribed to the Economist for over fifteen years- it most certainly is not a left leaning rag. But of course, from the far right ozone layer everything is left of mythical centre.

^^ Planted by subversives when young as a Manchurian Candidate**, to be elected Potus and destroy amerka from within.

[**'The Manchurian Candidate' is a political thriller novel, first published in 1959]. I very much doubt our friends in the outer reaches of the blogworld actually read it, although they probably saw the movie. Clearly, such perceptive, rational people are well placed to tell us how to vote.

Yes, but wasn't that film a propaganda tool by the liberal-elite-communist-Hollywood set? A double-bluff if you will.

So plenty about Romney in this thread obviously. But what about the type of people that support/intend to vote for him?

Well if this VDO is any sort of indication their appears to be some low-information, conspiracy theorist, outright loons amongst their numbers:

It really does boogle the mind how someone can hold such conviction in something that is simply, patently, not even true. Not only that, but it seems that they actively close their eyes/minds/ears against anything that might even possibly suggest they are wrong.

It's almost as though they actively work at being ignorant.

A few of the American reality shows that take place in the rural south have to be captioned so even Americans can understand what they are saying. lol

Ya gotta love Mitt's celebrity (or is that comedic) endorsements- Clint Eastwood, Meatloaf (ouch), Hank Williams jr, Kid Rock. Even Kelsey Grammer did a 'Frazier has left the building', prior to being interviewed with Piers Morgan. Makes you wonder- perhaps there really is a showbiz conspiracy against him...

As far as the Romney supporters go, mostly not certifiable nutcases- just average joe's feeling bad about 'the way things is', and blaming the incumbent Presidency for not miraculously making things right. The elderly Church lady was a real hoot though. And the creeping Buddhist threat to 'our freedom of religion', now thats a new one..

Jeez, you know you need to run for cover when the Economist basically decides to call you a moron.

To listen to Romney in this past week - and I heard an entire stump speech last night - he is just tossing out the platitudes and catch-phrases that he thinks the Americans want to hear - the truth doesn't matter one bit. He is just a weather vane... Sh!t like "Obama is gutting medicare, I am going to save it."

It's enough to make a thinking person sick - the only reason it might work for him is because the target is the low-information undecided voter.

OK, my reference to Ted Nugent got burned, here's a more complete one:

Nugent also came clean and stated that 30 days before the physical for the draft, he didn't shower, refused any form of hygiene, ate nothing but junk food and for the last week and half, didn't use the bathroom and urinated and defecated into his pants so he would be turned away for the draft. Ted Nugent claims to be a "real" American and slams anyone who doesn't have radical conservative views, but considering his past, maybe Ted Nugent needs to start looking in the mirror before he decides to judge others.

20,000-30,000 Turn Out to See Romney-Ryan in Ohio …(Obama Draws Crowds Less than 4,000)

You don't suppose they turn out in such large numbers to see R/R 'cause they hate their politics and plans for job creation do ya?

2,800 supporters turned out to see Obama in Hilliard, Ohio this morning.
4,000 turned out to see Obama in Springfield, Ohio this afternoon.
3,800 supporters turned out to see Barack Obama at his final campaign stop today in Lima, Ohio.

20,000 to 30,000 supporters turned out to see Mitt Romney in Chester, Ohio tonight!
** Carl Cameron just announced on FOX News that 20 to 30 thousand are at the Romney rally tonight in Ohio.

It was the Mitt Romney’s largest rally to date.

He can promise fairies and rainbows, and a unicorn in every garage. But come on - he has offered zero details on how this could be accomplished. Every independent review of his plan, or just a third grader who's okay at math, comes to the same conclusion that it impossible to achieve what he wants without eliminating tax breaks that will severely impact the middle class. And even that doesn't get him all the way there.

He is a snake oil salesman, being a businessman I guess makes him a GOOD snake oil salesman, but it doesn't make what he's selling any less of a sham.

Although I suppose unicorns could solve both the horse and the bayonet gaps.

the result of his tax and economic policies, should he ever be in a position to carry them out, will be an acceleration of the current trend in increasing income inequality.

Stiglitz made some good points on this recently, including :
Stiglitz: In the last decades, income and wealth disparity have grown dramatically in this country. Let me give you an example: In 2011, the six heirs to the Walmart empire commanded wealth of almost $70 billion, which is equivalent to the wealth of the entire bottom 30 percent of US society.

that would be an excellent idea.

Normal people call it "pulling your own weight" when those who benefit greatly from society don't escape their responsibilities vis-a-vis the same system which allowed them to be successful in the first place.

as noted above, the system is rigged and has been for a long time. Romney with his 20% tax cut and estate tax elimination will go a long way toward rigging it for the next generation of ultra rich Americans... That is not the 1%, that is about 300-400 people.

^ Like the unemployment problem in the US, BM and a couple of other Republicans denied it. They said anyone could get a job if they wanted it, that people with no jobs were lazy. Now they are screaming about unemployment and no jobs, and blaming Obama.

Same will happen with the income disparity. Once BM catches on that is it actually a problem, he'll be blaming that on Obama, too!

Well, some folks are getting the message and moving to N. Dakota, Texas etc where the jobs are.

Well, some folks are getting the message and moving to N. Dakota, Texas etc where the jobs are.
in other words, if you are unemployed, it is your own fault for not getting off your butt and / or literally, moving...

but I had a family member with a masters degree and she was unemployed from 2008 until this past summer. She sent resumes and applied to any location and she did move, too. In the meantime she worked in retail selling clothes part-time which was all that she could get, so she wasn't actually, officially unemployed - but with 2 kids to take care of and no safety net, no health insurance, no house (had to sell it at a loss, but that just covered mortgage balance), etc, she would never have survived if her (already retired) folks had not gutted a healthy % of their own retirement...

so yeah, you're right, being employed is as easy as moving to North Dakota, and if you are too stupid to do that then it is your own fault...

which is total BS. People did everything they could to survive in the crash brought on by the Bush years (you remember Bush, right? He was president before Obama...) and they did it without any safety net what-so-ever... And they did it in a society that is so callous that you feel guilty & demoralized about applying for food stamps so that you can put food on the table and feed your kids.

so yeah, I saw it up close and personal and it really was that bad for a lot of people. I don't live in the US but rather in one of those "socialist" countries in Europe where things like consumer protection and a real safety net exist and were the reason that the wall street induced crash wasn't as bad as in the US. Had the family member above lived in Europe, she would have never lost her house, never worried about her kids getting sick without insurance, or ever worried about literally putting food on the table. Odds are, she would have been back to work in a year or less and would not have needed to move.

So vote for Romney. That way you can show how much you care about the plight of the poor Walmart heirs... they need your sympathy.

as if it is the Democrats who play the race card in this election?

Maher was joking, but Republicans are not joking - they are serious, and seriously racist as well.

Just an example - not that you'll ever read it, BM, however, ... others might not only read it but understand it, too.
