My kids go to a British school here, and their political science teacher is having them work on " How the hell could Mitt Romney say 47% of Americans pay no taxes and are freeloaders". Especially when you consider it was a closed door high roller contribution group he was addressing.
Debates will show him to be of even less substance than is believed now.
Whether you like/hate Obama, you have to admit he is a good public speaker and debater and i can't see any other outcome other than him totally wiping the floor with Romney in the 3 debates, should be good viewing!!!!
are you serious?
A review of Pew Research Center and Gallup favorability ratings from September finds that Romney is the only presidential candidate over the past seven election cycles to be viewed more unfavorably than favorably. : http://www.people-press.org/files/le...%20release.pdf

Poor Mitt Romney. Apparently, nothing he does makes y'all happy, eh?
Romney Tax Returns Released, Left outraged Romney paid too MUCH in taxes, gave 30 percent to charity; Reid, Biden hardest hit.
“Romney gave 30% of his income last year to charity. Yes, he’s clearly a greedy, selfish one-percenter who doesn’t care about the poor.
A Deplorable Bitter Clinger
Tax Returns Show Mitt Romney’s Empathy:This past year, he gave $4,020,772 of his $13,696,951 in (“mostly investment”) income to charity. That’s 29.65%. Interestingly, “The Romneys [only] claimed a deduction for $2.25 million of those charitable contributions.”
Romney also provided details on his past 20 years of tax returns, indicating that he paid taxes in each of those years. Do wonder if Harry Reid will now apologize for slurring the good man from Massachusetts. And “Over the entire 20-year period, the Romneys gave to charity an average of 13.45% of their adjusted gross income.”
By contrast in the ten years prior to his nomination to be the Democratic candidate for Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden gave 0.15% of his income to charity. (UPDATE: For comparison purposes, in the 20 years prior to his current bid for the White House, Mitt Romney gave ninety times as much of his income to charitable institutions as did Joe Biden in the 10 years prior to his nomination as the Democratic candidate for Vice President.)
Sounds like Mitt Romney is a most generous man, an empathetic individual.
But, but, still a very bad man! Referred to those 47% ers! Very bad man!
Nothing wrong with Romney's character. The fact he gave large sum to charity not unusual for folks with his income. Making his generosity "public" is fine but it is an indication the campaign is running low on ammo. I don't see this gaining him any votes.Originally Posted by Boon Mee
Romney's problem is he is influenced by various Republican factions, none of which have a common agenda. He now finds himself in the position of having to "support" all these GOP factions. Impossible task.
Maybe too late but Mitt needs to be Mitt! He will be less confused and so will his audience.
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect,"
its in the news, now his wife, ann romney, had an emergency landing (too... )...
same reason for the grounding: too much smoke... no view and no clue...
Romney paid 14.1% tax on his income of $13,696,951. None of that was earned income.
Obama paid 20.5% on an income of $789,694 from his presidential salary and income from book sales.
Seems to me, quite unfair a man who works for his money has to pay a higher percentage than a man who collects dividends.
The irony that most middle class voters find puzzling is how Romney can basically accuse them of being slackers and victims who evade paying their fair share of taxes and yet he uses complex loopholes and shady offshore tax shelters unavailable to most Americans to effectively lower his tax rate to 14%. I think its wonderful that he have a lot to charity but one must remember that as a Mormon he is required to to give 10% of his income as a tithe to Mormon charities.
Details...? What details? He provided a statement...a summary is the word I heard used, that indicated he paid taxes each of those years. Details but no tax returns adds up to the usual meaningless double talk coming out of both sides of this mouth at the same time.Originally Posted by Boon Mee
Remarkable how some people buy it, then defend it.
the fact that he had an accountant publishing such a statement for the last few years raise even more alarms about the missing Tax Returns,
what is he hiding ? must be pretty serious,
maybe he didn't give his 10% to the Mormon community and is afraid of a backlash from his community
No one has questioned or queried his charitable donations. These have been used to blur the fact that he avoids paying a high rate of tax. Obfuscation and certainly unclear on the issue of concern.
It has also come out he didn't use all of his charitable donations as deductions last year. If he had taken them, he would have payed less in taxes than the 13% he claimed in August to pay every year.
If he doesn't win the election, he can still go back and take the full amount of deductions, paying less taxes.
I think a lot of those 47% bludgers would not mind paying 80% to charity if they had his incomeOriginally Posted by Norton

Greek troika report delayed by US elections
A decision on granting Greece the next round of its bail-out will be delayed until after the US election to avoid the risk of an economic earthquake jeopardising President Barack Obama’s chances of being returned to the White House, European officials have said.
The report by the “troika” of Greece’s foreign lenders, the European Central Bank, European Commission and the International Monetary Fund, was expected during October but will now come after November 6. Its findings will decide whether to release further tranches of rescue funds to Athens.
“The Obama administration doesn’t want anything on a macroeconomic scale that is going to rock the global economy before November 6,” a European Union official said. “As far as European leaders are concerned, they don’t want [Republican candidate Mitt] Romney, so they’re probably willing to do anything to help Obama’s chances.”

If there is a single western government that wants Obama to lose i'm not aware of it- although there are probably a few islamic countries that do, and of course the current right wing israeli coalition. If they are serious about their campaign rhetoric (a big if) their election would probably trigger another international recession, which is the last thing the G7 etc needs.
^I guess before Romney visited the UK he may have had the support of Cameron but he kind of blew that with his comments, so no i can't think of a single Western government who wants Romney to win.
And then complains he is paying too much, this while the US government is sliding towards insolvency. How can you sell that with a straight face, to people who are mostly paying more tax than you, but earning a small fraction as much? Yep, let me decimate your country so I and my buddies can get still richer. Then there is the populist end of the party to say, 'and if you don't vote for this, you must be a goddamn socialist'.Originally Posted by Humbert
Yet Romney was by far the most acceptable face available of the republican presidential contenders to sell this 'message', lets not forget that. I think we will be seeing some changes in the GOP in coming years.
