    Hi Hullbug
    Welcome to the TD

Plenty of mini buses (grey hearses) for rent but I think you would have to change over in BKK.
Travelling direct you'd probably have to do a private rental - be warned about making sure you get the type of car promised /you want - siting in the back seat of a 10 year old Toyota sedan with the diff. whining, suspension banging, air con. fading after the first 2 hours and the heat rising thru the seat cooking your arse makes it a long journey!!

There is (or was) a direct ferry service that operates a couple of times a week -aprox. 75 km sea journey - I think that would be more enjoyable than travelling by road - perhaps ask these people...

Easiest way is to take a passenger van to Victory Monument in Bangkok, and change there. Vans depart as often as every 15 min, from multiple places in Pattaya. I'd recommend is Pattaya Van departing from the road near the start of Walking Street for 97 baht (they use GPS to limit their speed to 120 kmh, so no crazy drivers). Change in Bangkok won't take long, most likely you won't need to wait more than 20 min.

Is this still operating? I was just about to start a thread asking, but then saw this.
