Cheap Way To Fly To Ko Samui

I fancy a week in Samui but the prices to fly direct are above my budget with the wife and kids to pay for.
I am now looking at flying to Surat Thani and getting one of the boats over.
Does anyone know how far the port is from the airport in Surat Thani.

Also anyone know any sites for reasonably priced accommodation on Samui.

about an hours drive..
Plane to Surat then boat from Donsak is probably the cheapest way of doing things..even more so than by train or bus..

If i was going alone or with my mates i would do the bus or train but my kids would be a nightmare on a long uncomfortable journey.

cheers

Just go with Thai if you can get a ticket, the difference in price of other companies is negligible

Once you get to the Surat airport, there may well be a Seatran desk in the lobby. That way you can just get on the bus and cruise straight on out to the pier. Airport's about half an hour outside of town, give or take, with the pier being another hour from there. If there's no Seatran desk, just take the local air-con bus (cheap) into Surat. It will drop you off at Phantip Travel near the local bus station. The Seatran office is in a converted gas station near the intersection of Talad Mai (the road Phantip is on) and Chon Kasem. About a five minute walk from the travel agency.

There are loads of travel agents in Surat. All of them are basically trying to sell you the same ticket you could get at Seatran but with a mark-up. Whatever you do, avoid taking the smaller boat that leaves from Surat itself. It's a deathtrap and it takes forever. Much more pleasant on one of the big ships. Once you get to Samui, you can take one of the songthaews from the pier for about 50 baht.

Why don't you Check out Utapao flights to Ko Samui. You can get a bus direct from Bangkok to Utapao airport.

Well if you look at the map it's on the way not out of your way, also the flight is about half hour less and you don't need to mess about getting on a boat while dragging a load of kids with you!

Yep I agree,

Earlier this year I got a super cheap flight from Bangkok to Surattani so I thought I'd give the Surattani route a crack.

Fok that for a joke matey, its foking nuts ville and they can bash it up there arse as one is a total foking nut job by the time one actually arrives on foking Samui.

One saves fok all as one needs lots of piss and psychotic drugs to dull the foking pain of the head fuk getting there.

Get off the foking plane at Surat and wait an hour while they get every bastard on the bus then sit in the foking bus for near on 2 hours before they get to the foking port, sit on ya sweaty arse for another hour till the foking ferry goes and then another foking hour to Samui.

I say a big fok that.

The money one saves in the end is not worth the foking hassle unless your a scanky arsed, dreadlocked drug addicted party going foking backpacker with only 2 foking quid to your name.

Give it a big foking miss matey.

Anyway, good luck and I'm glad I could give you the good foking oil.

Cheers.

If you are travelling with young children, it isn't worth the hassle of going to Surat. You can easily add another 3 to 4 hours on your journey.

Check out the price on the first or last flights flights to Samui then compare the cost of flight to Surat Thanai add taxi and boat charges plus the waiting time and the f(*&*^ frustration, just fly direct and enjoy the holiday
