Hau Hin beach is a shithole at the moment!

Hau Hin beach is a shithole at the moment, what the hell is happening?

Going to keep the litter beach patrol busy.

Looks worse than Koh Phangnan after a full moon party.

The Chao Phraya River is taking it's annual rainy season bowel movement.
Even in pristine condition, Hua Hin beach is crap.

Good news for now, the regular local clean up gang have been out in full force ...

Why this job is left to local volunteers instead of the local council is anyone's guess..

Hau Hin is promoted as a Royal resort and a top tourist attraction, you'd think the government and TAT would make it the jewel in the crown.

Rightly so, as it's their fault

There is most likely a budget for it, but....

I was there a few weeks ago. The beach, and it's quite wide where I was (maybe 30 meters between mean high tide level and the seawall) , was pristine.
Mind you that section was right next door to the Hilton's section.
Both Grand Centara and Hilton would, I imagine, have staff cleaning up.

The OP pics look like storm flotsam.

this mess is not the result of garbage deposited by locals and tourists.

it is flotsam and jetsam, a lot is marine debris from the fishing vessels that work the gulf, but most of it is flood runoff from the north that is brought down by the currents in the gulf

this happens every year toward the end of the rainy season, especially if there has been flooding along the chao phraya and the storm drains that run into the sea all along the coastline.

jetsam from fishing vessels is a year round problem on hua hins beaches, and although i live on the beach in hua hin for 6 months a year, i have not ventured into the sea for over 5 years because of the pollution. broken glass, sharp shards of metal and plastic, styrofoam food cartons, the innards of eviscerated fish, they can all be found there, in varying amounts, depending on the weather and direction of the currents at the time.

I have never been in the sea on any Thai resort, ever nor in their stinky swimming pools. First time I was here in '94 some poor bugger on our trip got an infection from the water in a swimming pool in Pattaya, he had to go home in a wheel chair.

    Apropos swimming in Thailand, just 5 minutes ago I got an email from a mate who lives not far from here;

"We went to Cha-Am for a break during the boys time off school. I think during a long go on a water slide I had a small nick on my ankle. Coming home it stated to swell and open up so I went to the Doc at XX hospital. 1st she put me on oral anti biotics but after a couple of days admitted me and I was on 2 types of a/b's for 3 days with some success I hope. Back home now and on the Orals for 10 days ! Dressed daily with difrt anti cream. "

I would have thought the water would have had enough chlorine in it to kill anything....

Why is it always other folks who suffer such trivial injuries.

I had new shoes that had ripped at my heels and bled. I deliberately walked in the sea at Cha am to let the salt get to it. Felt good.

Ok some Thai swimming pools are often a slight shade of green, I will avoid those pools as the algae would likely be immune to the miniscule drop of chlorine they use.
Of course the big name hotels won't have such hazards (but I bet someone on this thread will have some outlandish tale of getting gasterinteritus from the pristine Hilton pool)

The Hospital told him so, pool was closed. The hotel was the one with the plane sticking out, they pulled it all down now.
