What to do in Hat Yai ?

I'm nipping up there for the weekend after a pitstop in Dannok

Apart from the Pink Lady Resort and the waterfall, what else is to do there ?

    Cheers

Songkhla gets my vote as well. Cheap seafood, hotels, and a couple of friendly expat bars and expats to chew the curd with.

Bombs kills seven in southern Thailand

    REUTERS
Policemen inspect the site of a bomb blast at an ATM machine in the southern province of Yala. Police believe more than 20 explosions at ATMs in the three troubled southern provinces were planted by suspected insurgents to disrupt the local economy rather than harm any civilians.

    Pattani, Thailand -
Seven people were killed and 22 injured by a series of bombs across Thailand's restive southernmost provinces, an official said on Wednesday.
Thirty-one bombs went off in the provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla and several arson attacks were carried out late Tuesday and early on Wednesday, said Lieutenant General Paradorn Pattanathabutra, secretary-general of the National Security Council.
He said that some of the bombs were planted next to ATM machines to damage the local economy, while others were planted at roadsides to target military patrols.
Five soldiers and two civilians were killed in the blasts. Another 10 soldiers and 12 civilians were wounded, Paradorn said.
Muslim rebels fighting for independence from Buddhist-majority Thailand have been responsible for previous bomb attacks.
A Thai intelligence source who did not wish to be named said the recent attacks were revenge for the recent killing of a key militant by authorities.
Ethnic Malay-Muslim separatists have been waging an insurgency against Bangkok for decades, but it has escalated since 2004. More than 5 000 people have been killed in the unrest since then.
Paradorn said increased attacks were expected during October, when several of the groups celebrate their anniversaries.

Think I'll go the ATM before I go then

You obviously haven't got the whole gist of what goes on in Dannok.

Some great brothels in Had Yai and some very cheap massage parlours. Good ancient massage at the Kings Hotel. That just about what covers what Had Yai is famous for. There is also the duty free market but nothing to get excited about. Crap food freely available everywhere. I also found a place that was willing to hire me a bike for 50 baht but after about an hour I gave it up. There is a crap small zoo/park thing on a hill out of town if it is still there. A Chinese temple somewhere in the middle of town is also a must not. Bus to Songkla is cheap and will kill time as will the bus ride back. Songkla is good for ten minutes or eat seafood as AO suggested which will kill another hour.

I wish I'd saw this thread earlier. I lived in Hat Yai for a bit and my old bar has just reopened which is near the Pink Lady. Not a bad place to start for a pub crawl. Hopefully you made it down to Songkhla, if you're not trapped in Dan Nok that is. Strange backwards border mentality going on down there. Always a bit different to have a night out down there.

The last time I went there, I spent a lot of time shagging a Danish bird... Also, it was the first place where I remember being massaged in the men's toilet, by a man, while several other men looked at my cock. It was soooo interesting that they called several of their friends to have a look at my cock too. Some Thai nightclub, zero foreigners at that time...

I got really pissed and likely fell over.
How do I post these pictures???

They will try to rob you blind down there though, they tax you on EVERYTHING. It's a pity cos it spoils the fun that there is a lot of potential for. Every bar/club is pretty much parted with an argument over money.

What a nightmare that was. I didnt make it to Hat Yai, I did 7 hours in Dannok, then jumped in a taxi home. The beer there is the same price as Malaysia, the robbing focks. The corruption starts as soon as you walk through no mans land and up to the Thai border where they charge you 20 baht for an immigration slip (although they do fill it in for you)
Stayed at the Sha la la Hotel, no relation to the Shangri La, 550 baht a night or 200 for 2 hours.
Every bar you walk in you are soon surrounded by Thai brass and fukkers selling weak as piss tequila, then having the cheek to offer you a slice of lemon after.
We did a few dimly lit nightclubs where the music is deafening, some also have signs with "No Guns allowed" There are some nice birds on stage and it's 500 baht to buy them a garland. I didnt even get a blower for that, she just came down and wai'ed me.

The cherry on the cake was my mate talkin to this pretty little thing with a gruff voice, so I took great pleasure out of telling him it's a bloke. That did come back to bite me on the arse, but I don't wanna talk about that

Anyway watched England win 4-1 in the motel then came home with dirty finger nails from the wild west shithole that is Dannok.

    I've had better nights
