    Another killing in paradise

Well she who must be obeyed has just returned from her morning somtam and dead things on sticks breakfast mixing it with the peasants at the bottom of the mountain. It seems that last night one of the Thai partners involved in the Nikki beach resort here in Lippa Noi Samui was gunned down whilst having dinner in a restaurant in Chawang.
He was doing a deal to buy around 100 rai of land on Samui and it seems the deal has gone a little sour.
The thing that gets me is there has been nothing on any of the Thai news programs, nothing on any of the forums just silence. How can someone get shot in a restaurant in the heart of a tourist destination and its just hushed up ?
I will be glad to leave this island as it is fast going the way of Pattaya and Phuket. A proper Dodge city.
My mate is going to be really pissed off as some of the land this guy was buying was his and he has already spent a lump of what he thought he had coming.
Do I let him know or let him find out ?
Just another day in paradise as Phil Collins would say
Treat everyone as a complete and utter idiot and you can only ever be pleasantly surprised !

Maybe someone knows your mate has spent the money already so will coming in with a 50c on the dollar offer?

As for lack of news, maybe locals getting bumped off is more common than we think.

You only die once! If you get into a dicey business transaction, better be prepared! And that's not only in Thailand. Feel sorry for the guy to meat Buddha this soon, but it's all in the game.

Knew a guy, American named "Big Larry," in Samui. He had lots of acreage there but couldn't sell due to property collapse and many questionable land titles. This sounds a lot like his story.

Larry played great golf and was a 0 handicap player. Haven't seen him in about 4 years. Bad knees.

A lot of people get the wrong idea about Samui, Chaweng beach area is full of tourists and the associated scams and lowlifes that feed on it. Lipa Noi and Taling Ngam is well removed from all that kind of activity and is a much more peaceful area. Best seafood on the island too.
Whilst it's difficult to avoid all the nonsense because of the size of the Island, it's quite possible to live peacefully removed from the worst excesses of it.

I just spoke to a friend who's well-connected on Samui, and I think your info might be incorrect- I was told that last night the nephew of the Pavilion owner was shot (eleven times, supposedly) at a restaurant in Cheong Mon, and his body is currently at Lamai Temple- it may have been over a land deal- the owners of Nikki Beach are all alive and well as far as I could confirm.

If I hear otherwise I will post about it.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Wasn't somebody saying just yesterday that Samui avoided the shit that Phuket and Pattaya seems to get regularly? Got to be honest, it didn't sound right to me. Gets slightly less because it's smaller and has less people, but relatively it's no different IMO.

The person who told the wife works at Nikki Beach and he certainly has something to do with it. Hew may not be the owners as they are as far as I know Farang, well at least 49% they are
But your post highlights my concern perfectly.
How can you have someone fcuking shot 11 times in a restaurant anywhere and it isn't in the news ?

I don't know, but I wouldn't count on 'peasants' (your word, not mine) to be at all in he loop as far as accuracy goes. I'm not even sure if what I heard was 100% accurate, and I tend not to believe what I hear through the grapevine- everybody is a niece, nephew, uncle, aunt, etc as FlyFree said- there's a lot of bullshit that goes around, and everyone wants to be the first to tell the story.

Is it sure that this shooting has already happened and not something that is gonna happen?
I have asked around but no one knows about this shooting, they make me feel like a big idiot when they ask at which restaurant and I can't even tell them that.

    ^

I posted what I was told, and even though it came from someone who's in the buiness world on Samui, they were still relating what they heard- it could all be totally distorted or a complete load of crap- unless I know about something first-hand, I have to assume that what I hear in LOS is at least partially incorrect when it comes to the rumor-mill.

I do know that if it happened as described in the OP (in a busy part of Chaweng) it would be in the news as no one could keep the tourists quiet.

I hate Samui, lived there in 1992, had 2 aquaintances murdered whilst I was there.

Always felt far safer in Phuket in those days.

Vowed never to go back and never have.

The word peasants was used in a humorous fashion and in no way derogatory manner. it was a rich, well connected Thai that was shot so I would believe the Thai locals when it comes to finding out about it over the Farang network. The person that told my wife works for Nikki Beach and knows the person involved.
As for the BS about it coming out don't believe it.
I once was sat having breakfast with the HC of Samui and he told me they had last night found the battered and beaten body of a ladyboy behind MacDonalds in Chawang and there wasn't anything on any of the forums, news or radio. NOTHING.
Working on some of the mindset posted here the HC must have been talking BS as well ?

I don't believe the BS- not that of the person I talked to (who was a rich, well-connected Thai, not a farang), nor yours, and I won't believe much of anything, really, unless I hear it from a better source.

If you find out something first-hand, fine, but you posted hearsay like it was fact, and anyone who searched 'Nikki Beach' on Google News yesterday would have been directed to this thread.

    German slain on Koh Samui
Published: 28/09/2012 at 04:26 PMOnline news:

German slain on Koh Samui | Bangkok Post: breakingnews

A German tourist was stabbed to death on Koh Samui in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police said they received a report of the stabbing from the hospital about 1.30am today.

At the hospital, they found the body of 49- year-old Gleich Thomas, a German national. The police found three knife wounds to his head and on both sides of his ribs. There were also bruise marks on his body.

His wallet contained 4,000 baht cash, four credit cards and an international driving permit.

The hospital staff told the police that Thomas was found lying next to a brand new motorcycle on Chaweng-Cherngmont Road in Tambon Bo Phut. He was rushed to the hospital but died on the way. The doctor called the police after finding the knife wounds.

The investigation team believed the victim was at a local bar or restaurant and got into a brawl.

They believe Thomas was trying to flee on his motorcycle, but crashed where he was found.

    Police are investigating.
