Kings Hotel is clean ,central and cheap. Alright for a night anyway. They have an in house massage parlour where I've had some excellent ancient massages from the older ladies who work there.

Rooms are nothing fancy, but its been several years since I stayed.

    Hat Yai Hotel,King Hotel Hatyai,Hotel In Hatyai,Hotel,Hatyai,

Judging from that link it looks like its had a major make over since my last stay.

    Recent reviews here :

Having said that, there are several other places nearby so if you don't mind doing the rounds there might be something better.

Also used to stay at the ' Rado '. A bit quieter and a bit further from the station.

Sounds about right . " The best of a bad bunch "

I always ask to see several rooms before chosing one. Test pillows etc.

I see that Songkhla province is on the warning list for westerners.
Is it safe to wander the streets of Had Yai at night or do you stay in the hotel ?

If going alone, The Pink Lady can be fun.

Kings is decent enough and cheap, and the concierge type geezer can assist you inthe location of anything you require.

Both are 20bht songtaew from railstation.

many hotels. just walk straight down the street leading from the station.

hok chin hin is a very inexpensive, clean guest house style place.

very clean, quiet, no ac or hot water. comfy beds.

maybe 3 blocks from the station and turn left.

100 meters on your left. serves a mean noodle soup and the chinese proprietors speak good engrit and are scrupulously honest.

been staying there for many years as i travel trough hat yai.

hat yai is safe as can be.travel another 30 k south and things change a bit.

very close to the market and Mcducks/mall as well.

It is OK, just keep your wits about you. Pink Lady is still going but as stated a bit expensive as it mainly caters for the Malay and Singapore tourists. For Thai food/Beer and live music try the "Post Laser Disc" and English "pub" try the crown.

    Cheers, TP

lived in the south for nearly two years.

great food. easy transportation and cheap accommodation.

most of the violence is in the more rural villages.

So have I, we got ourselves a convoy, 10-4

If you cross via Sadao then that must be the safest route

I would agree if you are going Penang / KL etc. The road "throws" you out onto the main N-S Highway. Just make sure you have small ringit notes/coins for the tolls, including one immediately at passport control.

Not sure yet, haven't planned my route. I've got to end up at a ferry or ship of some kind that can get me to Sumatra.
