An extaordinary tirade. Really quite brilliant.

ABC Fora- Christopher Hitchens and Tony Jones: Does Religion Poison Everything?

I tried copying the link but I can't seem to make it work.

This is really worth listening too.

Man is a religious animal per se, we all believe in some type of God. It's quite sad but we need God.

There is no such thing as an atheist, it's a myth, like the unicorn.

Probably true. Regardless of our principles and positions, we're conditioned to attach ourselves to some inkling of spirituality of some sort. Easily indoctrinated all away around....

No, 'we' do not - only dumb, illiterate people stuck in superstitious muck, with no confidence or trust in themselves 'need' a god.

I guess the shoe fits.

^ you are the perfect example of a believer Quack Quack,

Mactards are true religious zealots, they believe that Macs make them the disciples of God while in fact they are just lazy little tards.

None, as I said, I am not a religious person in any way.

I don't really have a problem with people believing in whatever they want, as long as they don't try to convert me, but I do get angry when religion is used as an excuse for violence and oppression (which it nearly always is imho).

Personally I reject the notion of any greater powers or whatever you might call them just as I reject the existence of ghosts, easter bunnies, leprechauns etc.

^ I don't disagree, but religions have nothing to do with God, hence my argument that man are religious animals, they need to organize themselves into communities to believe into something, usually a God or set of principles to guide their life.

We all have religious principles, and we usually follow them.

who are you to speak for the rest of us?

we all have our own moral or immoral principles and usually follow them.

religion is nothing more than a form of indoctrination, used since time immemorial to exert control over and gain submission from populations denied the education and freedoms to REALLY think for themselves on these matters.

christopher hitchens book "god is not great" should be required reading for all and should replace the bible as the font of wisdom and common sense.

Dogmatic stimulation or obsession can manifest in numerous forms. Needn't not be invented spirituality nor religion.
