    Driver in Phuket?

I have friends, a British couple, who are going to Phuket in September for about two weeks. They'll be staying in Surin Beach and they also want to go to some of the other small islands. I'm working on a list of which islands to go to like Racha / Raya, Kho Bon, Kho Hae, Kho Siray, Kho Mapraow and Kaew Yai.

I've also suggested that they go to this temple: Krabi Magazine Online · Thailand · - Wat Bang Rian

Of course, a driver who is local can also take them places off the tourist path and tell them about the history etc.

What I'd like to know is, do any of you know a driver that you could recommend? They wouldn't need him the whole time, just on an on call type basis for things I've shown above.

    Thanks for any help.

You might find some reluctance, on account of the fact that if the tuk tuk mafia see a Thai driving two farang in a private car, they may well decide to "remind" him that he shouldn't be taking business from them.....

Also, if the driver is not driving a registered taxi, he will definitely be stopped by the police for operating an unlicensed taxi, (trust me in this - I own a hotel in Phuket and my drivers have this problem on many occasions with the police, even though this is a private hotel car with non-paying passengers).

Anyway, why not use a tuk-tuk? Those friendly chaps will be able to tell you all about the local history and quaint customs

Nope, that was what TripAdvisor and Google showed up. When I lived in phuket I used a guy that was recommended by the reception staff at the royal paradise hotel. I'm sure most of the major/high end hotels have drivers on their books if you was to pop in and ask.
