Annual Sea Turtle Release Ceremony

Laguna Phuket invites you to join the 18th Annual Sea Turtle Release Ceremony. This exclusive sunset event will take place at Banyan Tree beachfront on Friday, 1 April 2011, from 6 - 7.30pm.

The event involves the release of 95 turtles into the Andaman Ocean. This completes the first stage of this year's continuing turtle research and conservation program.

The turtles that will be released are 12 month old 'head-starts' raised in captivity for the first delicate stages of their life to increase their chance of survival to maturity.

The event's aim is to raise funds for the renovation of the disabled turtle shelter at Phuket Marine Biological Centre. A facility used to heal turtles injured at sea, often by recreational speedboats or fishing gear. The treatment usually takes upwards of 6 months.

A total of 95 tickets are available for purchase.
Each ticket costs THB 3,000 (valid for 2 adults, with no limit on the number of children)
Each ticket purchased includes one turtle release (if you desire multiple turtles, please purchase multiple tickets)
Tickets are available from now until the 29th of March and must be purchased in advance.
Tickets will NOT be available at the event.

Last years even was held during the day and it was free ( well 3,000 if u wanted to release a turtle) lots of entertainment (thai dancing and games for kids), thia stiudents and food.
all in all very enjoyable. No idea why they changed the format this year
