Cultural/food festivals often at Saphan Hin - far enough away from housing for the loud sound systems, space for parking, a big stage area and crowds of people.
Early 2010 we went to the three-day Phuket Food Festival, along with a huge selection of food there was entertainment each night in the form of performaers from Phukets' ladyboy cabarets, comedy acts, and a 'Miss Phuket' ladyboy competition.

Loy Krathong Festival
.
Celebrated all over Phuket, last year (November) I went with friends to Chalong Pier then later moved to Saphan Hin - huge crowd and a great atmosphere, food stalls, music; I believe this year's event is Nov 21.

Loi Krathong, Thailand's 'festival of lights'. Held yearly, on the evening of the twelfth lunar month, it is the time of year when the waters around the country become alive with candlelight and look not unlike massive fairy ballrooms. When staying in a coastal area, you can see these 'ballrooms' extending for miles out to sea.
For the romantic at heart and young couples, Loi Krathong is the time to make a wish for happiness together and success in love.
