    Lest We Forget

Exactly nine years ago this day. several thousand folks lost their lives or everything they had on earth.

At this time 6:45 PM on Dec 26 those of us living here were trying to find/contact our friends and associates. A time I will never forget!

The face and illusion of Thailand was changed forever.

    God rest their souls.

A day to remember. I was coming back from a works party on Koh Si Chang. I got back home and went on the piss. I knew nothing of the disaster until the next day.

I was in the U.K fast asleep and didn't know a thing until the morning when I watched the news over breakfast.
Amazing how many people contacted us to ask if our Thai family where okay, nice of them but I had to explain that they live far safely inland an are not beach bums.

    Remember....
Visiting family in Sukhothai [from Surin at that time].

It was immediately covered by Thai news reports - TV and radio.
Saw the first real time pics soon after.

We had the same experience in Hua Hin. Beach town, but Gulf of Thailand isn't quite the Andaman sea.

We didn't even know anything about it until someone phoned from UK to ask if we were all right.
Horrific time for all involved, including the volunteers who went to help in the aftermath.

^ Weird. That one says the same. Maybe it's the computer settings or summat. I'll go straight to You tube & look for them. Cheers

If you really were here when it happenned you'd remember that the event occurred in the morning around 9 am. I know cuz I watched the first wave coming in, and thinking how peculiar this is.
And the resulting horror which lasted for weeks afterwards is something you would never forget if you went through it.

Yes I was there, identified bodies etc. had the US Embassy staff in the parking lot of the restaurant I was helping at the time....

The time was in reference to the time I was writing the post and also approximately the time that we all realized the devastation not only in Phuket but the Andaman Sea/Bay of Bengal area.

I know well the exact time of the quake.... as my dog tried to get me out of bed. Never did she jump on the bed, never, never. But that day around 6:30 ish she landed on my chest.....

It was not till 2pm or so that those of us living in Phuket Town really could fathom what was going on. As you may recall, mobile service was gone. No comms between Patong and the rest of the island say nothing of the rest of thailand.

^Wow, you are lucky you made it out alive unlike many others that did not.

I was in Phuket on the 1 year anniversary. I went to the memorials on the beach and got to see alot of pics that people had taken that were in photo shops of before and after the tsunami of the exact place I was standing in. It was surreal to see the photos.

I had a cousin and his wife who were in Phi Phi, who made it alive. They came back to Canada and were on tv. I was in the room when they were being filmed. They suffered PTSD for many years due to seeing all the carnage and dead bodies at the time.
