Police arrested the driver after a complaint from Arminas Macys, 41, who arrived in Thailand on holiday on November 28 and was staying at the resort.
On December 8, he complained to police that he had been attacked by a taxi driver outside the hotel.
He explained that he had flagged down a taxi on the road outside the resort.
As he went to get in it he was grabbed by a man who indicated that he must use instead one of the taxis in a queue who “owned” the hotel, and not the taxi he had stopped.
Mr Macys said he would not, at which point the man hit him a number of times with a piece of wood, causing cuts and bruises to his left arm.
Investigators were able to identify the attacker as Narongsak Gongsawat, 19. He was arrested yesterday afternoon (December 13) and charged with intimidation and assault.
