    Gerbil does Phuket

Just got back from a business/pleasure trip to Phuket. Not my choice of destination, but my partners from the US wanted to go and as they were paying all expenses I couldn't really argue.

I didn't take many photos as my camera was playing up, but here we go....

First up the hotel. A free green to anyone who can identify it from the photos:

You, sir, are a God among men....
Short Men, who aren't terribly bright....

On a speedboat cruising past one of the Phi Phi beaches. The guide helpfully told us the coral there was dying due to global warming. Obviously nothing to do with hundreds of speedboats and thousands of tourists visiting daily then....

    Nice post.

I often wondered about the tourist that come and subject themselves to all that overcrowding.

My idea of a vacation is getting away from it not getting in the middle of it

Thought it must have been a hotel with it's own private beach.
You can not see the sand on most beaches in Phuket for the amount of chairs.

^True, but at THB 30,000 or so per night you should expect something nice.

Great pics mate, those northern beaches don't get the attention the deserve.Nothing better than a jaunt around Surin or Bang Tao having a cool drink and some lunch.

How busy was the Tiger Bar,I was there in August and only about the first ten bars in were busy.

Phuket deserves a much better Rep than it gets.Ah well I will be back there in April.
You're fat,Ill fro you in the river

I agree with crocman, after 20 years here, I can still find plenty of places that are off the main tourist trails. Being in the marine business also helps as echo's of motorcycles and badly driven Toyota buses fade into the distance from about a half mile out to sea. Even after all these years there are still island beaches without a soul on them if you get there after 4 pm and leave before 9 in the morning. You'll also find that there won't be another yacht is sight as well which adds to the bliss.

Yeah, the north western beaches were generally much quieter. Spent a few pleasant afternoon/evenings on them.

Patong was packed to the brim though. On the few nights we went to Bangla Road, it was absolutely heaving. All the bars doing a lot of business, but a lot of cheapskate Tour party's also just wandering up and down the road.
