Chalong station police were called to investigate suicide at a home in tambon Rawai Moo 1, near Cape Promthep, Tuesday night. The call came at 10.30 PM, and officers went in tandem with Ruamjai Koopai Rescue Service personnel to the house, described in the vernacular press as “a large, luxury manse inside a walled compound” on Soi Naya.
On the floor of a bathroom inside they found the corpse of 28-year-old Poliish national Monika Jurewicz, dressed in her underwear, a red scarf wound tightly round her neck.
Investigators said she had hanged herself and was dead about seven hours before they arrived. They said no signs of foul play were in evidence.
Jurewicz was married to a 52-year-old French golf pro teaching at the nine-hole Phunaka Golf Course in Chalong.
Police said the couple had been living in Phuket about seven years and described them as “rich.” The victim’s suicide, they were informed, was preceded by news of “her parents’ frequent quarrelling, which produced in her anxiety, such that she began drinking and smoking heavily, and was wont to stay out almost till dawn.”
Immediately before her death, they were told, she kept quiet in her room. Her husband discovered the corpse when he arrived home.
Jurewicz’ remains were taken to Wachira Hospital in Phuket town for examination.
