    I just felt another shake. Its really disconcerning when these big buildings start moving around.
    I was in Mexico City in 1985 right after the big one hit there.

    Another thread has more details. Its just after 6pm here so I assume all is well as it did not hit the coast off Banda Aceh, the closest land mass to the epicenter.

    ok update; Yes we had a tsunami. very different from my first one in 2004;
    Headed down to the beach about 5 pm and the roads leading up to the mtn behind my house were full of tourists heading to higher ground.
    got to the beach no one worried but every shop on the beach road ( which was 100% totaled before) and main road ( which was under 2 feet of water last time ) are shut down
    headed up to Cape Sienne which is a resort located on the rocks above Kamala bay. up to about 6 pm normal ( although todays tide was lower than normal) tide than about 6:15 the water went out over 50 meters in the space of 1 minute. 2 minutes later came rushing back in about 75 meters.
    than it went out but less and came back in. Figure the tsunami was no more than 1 meter high. They are expecting another series when the 8.2 aftershock hits here.
    Both earthquakes our house was shaking!!

    The road out of Patong is one way and full of cars heading out of town. 2004 for about two days after the tsunami the road still had people living on the side of the mtn. Closed the airport as well.

    Not much of a tsunami then. That could have been predicted given the location and depth of the earthquake.
    Though even as off right now the police are still keeping people from coming back into Patong.
    This is another "cry wolf" scenario. When the next real big one hits people will ignore it.

    You're probably right, but after the mistakes they made not issuing a warning in 2004, it's natural that they never, ever want to repeat them.

    Let's just be thankful this isn't one and know one has been killed.

    No this is nature messing about with tectonic plates..

    So much for the educated thai who told me " no need for earthquake drill at school, phuket not have earthquake"

    you don't have to be sitting on top of a fault to get hammered, I shall repeat my warning to all teak doorers who have kids in multistory thai build schools..
