High Winds and driving rain cause major damage to roads, houses and trees around Pattaya

    23rd February 2011

High winds and driving rain around the Pattaya area caused extensive damage to trees, roads and houses on Tuesday.

The worst affected area was the East of Pattaya covering an area of 10 square kilometers.

The high winds brought down trees, some of which fell onto houses.

Some properties were damaged due to the high winds which lasted almost 3 hours.

Remarkably no injuries relating to the extreme weather conditions were reported and local government technicians are now in the process of surveying the damage and have promised to offer assistance to house owners to ensure their properties are fixed as quickly as possible.

Damaged roads will also be fixed within the next 24 hours.

They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

    Storm Disaster in Pattaya

Parts of Pattaya suffered severe damage as a result of yesterday’s cyclonic attack. More than 10 houses and several vehicles were destroyed and at least one person was injured.

Pattaya, 22nd February 2011: At 2.00pm after a cloudburst, heavy gasts of wind, followed by a spate of torrential rainfall lasting over 30 minutes, it was reported that many of local residences and cars had been damaged by the large trees collapsing and the blasting winds. The reporter surveyed damage at Moo4, Pong and Moo6, Nongprue.

Mr. Smphong Bunsiri (56), a villager from Pong claimed that it was first time in his life to see an event so severe and very scary as this. The storm had built up heavily in a few minutes and uprooted big trees while blowing the rooves off several houses. Other villagers tearfully revealed similar stories and remarked that their houses and cars had been destroyed. They had no idea how to manage with this trouble. At the same time some officers had been dispatched to investigate at the scene to check the damage.

In the area of Moo6, Nongprue a similar situation existed. On investigating the area a villager, Miss Phim’s was discovered trapped by a collapsed cement wall injuring her and her house was severely damaged by the storm. She was sent to the hospital for treatment. The villagers, some of whom literally have no roof over their heads, need urgent government relief.

The huge advertisement screen behind my house was struck by lightning and caught on fire.

I told my Missus to call the Fire Brigade as it was on fire but the driving rain put it out.

Since my time in Asia I have never experienced lightning and thunder as it was yesterday.

A big wind storm is hitting my house now. No rain yet but lots of thunder, two fronts must be colliding. Going to be some down limbs tomorrow for sure.
